Water is also a lot thinner than a water based or oil based paint. And don’t run to much water through your spray tip, water will blow out your tip a lot faster than paint.

I appreciate the feedback. When you’re running fine finishes, which this is marketed for, you’re basically spraying water. So it still leaked. There was a machining issue on the gun itself. Got a new unit that does NOT leak, like it should and I do like it.

I just bought by Graco Quickshot. Shot water through it and it was dripping at the tip guard seal. But I tried some different finishes and it seemed to run fine, even with thinner ones. Seems like your experience was a manufacturing defect since yours was also dripping paint. Mine seems to only drip water and is fine with a variety of finishes, although I do not plan to run super thin finishes like lacquers through this gun.

I have, no drips with water or latex. This week shooting cabinets with viynl sealer and pre-cat lacquer. Will update if I see issues.

Have you tried the titan flex spray?Im a painter in Chicago I don’t do much spraying but the titan flex spray has been good so far in limited use.Easy to set up and clean.Sprayed nicely with advance and ultra spec.I’m not sure how the finish compares to other hvlps.A lot of people like it but some really hate it.I think you really have to read the instructions thoroughly otherwise you have issues.Thanks for the video!

Haven’t used anything Titan- the only handheld HVLP sprayers I’ve used like that are Wagner units, which honestly aren’t that bad for small projects and thin material. The problem with small units like either of those is the heat build-up from the blower- once they start blowing hot air, it radically changes how the finish lays out and reacts

Ive had mine for less than a week and had the gun stop spraying primer the first go. I cleaned it, ran gallery through it and had the same issue but then had difficulty getting the remaining paint to get through the line but finally did. Cleaned the system extremely thoroughly and then was ready for a second coat of gallery only to see the gun spitting badly followed by a short stream after releasing the trigger. I called Grayco today and requested a call back but have yet to hear from them. Its very disappointing for a 1400 unit. Im hoping I got a lemon and they will replace it for me.

That’s a big disappointment. What tip are you using? I’ve been having similar trouble with a 308 fflp tip, switched to 310’and it has been a lot better

@camdecorations9779 thinking the paint wasn't the issue. It was the gun. I gave it back to the store to let the Sherwin Williams rep check it out and he agreed there was an issue with the gun and replaced the entire unit. Ran it all again without issues. I could tell the gun ran differently with the replacement unit. Not everything is user error.

Hi there. A tip usually comes with a tip seal which is different to some tips types. Have you got this installed before spraying??

Yea- the quickshot comes with the yellow solvent seal integrated into the actual gun itself, with the black seal in the tip guard like is standard. For some reason this unit wild not seat the tip guard correctly, causing seal between the yellow and black seals to leak

It definitely has some quirks and idiosyncrasies unique to a unit with an electronic gun, but the more I use it and learn about it the more I come to like it.

The yellow seal is integrated- as far as I know, not replaceable. I tried two different blue guards and and changed the black seal on both. All combinations leaked. I did get a new unit that didn’t have these issues, but since posting this video and my updated review I’ve hears from multiple people with the same issue

I recently bought a Graco Ultra quick shot on amazon and I am having the same problem, dripping from the same spots as in your video. Do you think if I pour paint instead of water, will the problem stay the same or will it go away? Or is it better to call the manufacturer and try to resolve this issue with them?

If it does it with water it'll do the same to paint: try tightening any bolts in the leaking area and if its still the aame contact the manufacturer

From my experience the graco blue guards have issues with the oring between the 2 metal parts inside the guard (the small part where you insert the tip and the part where the threads are) if you tighten the guard then spin the tip around to your favorite position "facing up or sideways "you are smashing and tearing up that oring then you get a leak right between the blue guard and the metal piece. There is no oring on the orange guards so they never leak unless your seal for the tip is worn out. What I do is I remove the blue plastic then separate the 2 piece metal to remove the broken oring then I put the blue plastic back on ,then I put the guard back on the gun and tighten pretty good I proceed to spin the end of the guard around and back and forth to make the 2 metals mate better with out the oring, after that I insert the tip and tighten the guard pretty decent with a wrench then no leaks even running pure water. I would like to add that this works better using yellow seal for solvents,downfall is harder to reverse the tip when is clogging.

Today I tested three Graco models with water two of them were Graco ultra quick shut and one Graco finish and they all had the same problem leaking in the same spot. I recorded a video and wanted to show you guys but you tube video doesn't allow it. I guess with water all tools leak don't they?

But they don’t 🤷‍♂️ the same tip guard that didn’t leak in my X5 leaked in that first Quickshot. I got a new unit that doesn’t leak and works well. This isn’t my first spray gun. If it leaks water it’ll leak any water- or solvent-based lacquer/shellac/poly, and even a lot of the pigmented cabinet coatings. Exactly who the products this unit is marketed for. Like I said, I got a unit that works and does NOT leak, like it should, and I really like it.

I'm glad you addressed this. I've been watching multiple videos on this sprayer to see if I want to buy it and I've seen many where it's leaking right there in the video while the person raves about it. I leave a question in the comments and I don't get a response. I was figuring that they must be paid reviewers or something because nobody serious about painting would want drips falling onto their project. So, did Graco give you any sense that they were going to fix the bigger manufacturing problem with this product?

In all honesty, I haven’t watched any other reviews of this product. I saw it and tried it out and liked it. The unit I originally got leaked, but did get a replacement unit that works as it should. I’ve actually been surprised by how many people have said they have experienced a similar issue with this sprayer- it could have been a bad batch due to machining or assembly in the factory 🤷‍♂️ this was a completely honest review from start to finish, I did do an updated review with the replacement unit and I am very happy with it. At the time Graco said that this was an isolated issue and have not had any widespread issues with the sprayer

Hey - ive been using their old utramax handheld , it was a nightmare !! Leeking was on a big issue with that one too ! Issue i beleive is in the triax pum! After playing with this unit for 5 years , ihave some experiance. Its nothing to do with your guard . it the pums nosel keep realeasing the preasure into your tip ever after you have let go of the trigger. Preasure is not get contained in the pump, the shut off valve is not fully closed ! This will mainly happens on the triax pump. But we do use may other greco products, you can see this happening on big ST Max 495s, when you connect a extention pipe to the gun. Now this is nothing to with greco !! Reason: if you have trapped air in your large extention pipe that connected to the gun it will keep leaking out of the tip. Way we resolve it is , remove the tip and guard and prime the paint throuhg the extention pipe. Now in quick shot which has the triax pump, sometime not much you can do if you have tried all the priming process. Just simply replace the pump ! new quck shot is a great product but its a shame that they have a bad pump design. I belive they have improved the hardness of the pump , but after seeing your vid confirms that same issues still there. If they install beter harder metal single piston pum this unit is a game changer!

I did get a replacement unit that hasn’t had any problems other than user-error problems that I was able to fix by reading the manual. It’s a lot more finicky than the bigger units and needs a little more love to keep it running smoothly

In my experience, a water leak like this means it will be dripping paint. My primary products Kem Aqua and Gallery (both which I love BTW) are just colored paint water. The biggest reason I was concerned was because the used tip guard that has NEVER leaked on a different gun leaked like a sieve on this one.

Really? This is the first time I’ve heard bad things about a 308, but does explain some of the other issues I’ve been having with the replacement gun that only happen when I’m using a 308 tip.

Everyone seems to rave about the product right out of the box, but it’s good to see that sometimes even the best products can have a QC problem, and how to work out a solution. I’m sorry to hear that- even the new replacement unit has been a bit of a mixed bag for me. I few like I should have gotten a GX19 airless AND a lower end HVLP turbine for the same price. When it works it works very well, but definitely has a few idiosyncrasies that frustrate me (that could be user error)

I hear you, but this one definitely did and a surprising amount of others have leaks all over the spectrum. In my experience with the sprayers I’ve had they don’t leak water when assembled correctly. Maybe I need more experience or lower expectations

The reason I went for the quickshot over the 395 or even the GX19 was that I wanted a smaller unit that was easier to clean and wasted less paint in priming/cleaning, along with the portability of being cordless. I did get a new unit that works properly and I like it- video link is in the description. Probably my biggest hangup at this point is that I can’t leave it loaded with paint overnight like many other units and have to clean it out every day

You don’t spray with water, never had one issue 100 jobs completed, it’s definitely not for big jobs, it’s all about convenience. Time cleaning sold me, it’s all ready paid for itself, I never had a leak something is definitely wrong with the gun seal, possibly metal bent. I’m definitely going to check in the morning see if mine actually leaks. I really don’t remember having any leaks.

@LuisC202 except… I do 😂 fun fact- when the SW reps came out to help me diagnose the issue, it leaked paint when they tried it, exactly the way it leaked the water, because guess what- fluids are fluids and will leak if there is not a tight seal, especially at the psi of an airless sprayer. The threads on the gun itself were machined wrong. There was no contact in the middle of the tip guard. That’s a literal problem.

I did get a replacement that has worked well- but, yeah, I’m a bit more nervous about breaking it. I’ve gone through a little over 10 gallons with it and have had a few minor issues that I haven’t had with my other sprayers. In hindsight I probably should’ve gotten the GX19 🤷‍♂️

I guess. It had been broken for 6+ months and unused, so things do tend to get dirty in an actively used shop. Along with expecting a DIY-level tool (at best) to keep up with a heavy finishing schedule didn’t help things. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.

There’s definitely a lot going on with this machine. Myself and it seems quite a few others have had some leaking issues with the tip guard/gun interface; this was resolved with a new unit. My biggest hang up at this point is that you cannot keep it loaded with paint overnight, and you cannot stick the gun in a bucket of water to between coats of paint because of the electronics in the gun handle itself. It’s a cool unit, I’m glad to use it, not sure I would buy it again.
