I have been a painter for 35 years, and let me tell you, painters can be very judgmental. You are absolutely correct; it should not leak at all for a brand-new sprayer. Thanks for the update and video. Great job!

I appreciate it- and always love to connect with fellow Paul B. Hardware aficionados! I actually have a long-term review/maintenance video coming soon that Paul B plays a huge role in. I can honestly say I never thought a hardware store could be a life changing experience, but that was until Paul B came to town 😂

Really glad you did the update. I got mine late last week. Picked it up from Sherwin Williams while away from home. I got sick on my way home. The next day I played with it for 30 minutes maybe (mostly cleaning lol). But I LOVED it!!!! I mean… it is so good. But I haven’t been able to get out in the shop and use it again. I got it to replace my VERY finicky HVLP gun. When I saw the first video I was worried. But also didn’t think mine leaked at all. But … I probably never should have been out there painting to begin with . LOL. Glad you got a replacement and are happy with it. Love hearing that from someone that’s had a lot more experience with spraying.

Switching from HVLP to airless is a night day difference. I was always adjusting the HVLP to get it to spray right. Airless is just point and shoot, and the FFLP tips give an equivalent finish! Just get used to cleaning the quickshot. It’s a little more delicate than a standard airless, but as long as you keep flushing it with mineral spirits after each use you’ll be golden- enjoy!!

This sprayer has been a roller coaster for me- I’ve had some big and small issues, got a replacement unit- almost every other issue I’ve had since then is more related to user error than machine error. Biggest thing is to read the manual 😂

I have the tc pro and its amazing the downside is it becomes heavy, on the other hand i use the hvlp 9.5 and i found easy to clean than the airless and hvlp i can dial it to a dime size , love both of them but since i have the tc pro ultra i will wait untill it dies on me because i am on my second piston pump replacement and its fairly new

Question. For painting cabinets, would you recommend the quickshot over the FinishPro contractor?
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Жыл бұрын
By FinishPro contractor, are you referring to an HVLP unit? I don’t think there’s a wrong choice. The Quickshot, or any airless unit, will spray the job much more quickly than an HVLP unit could. The HVLP unit could give a slightly finer finish, but not by much. Prices being about equal, I would pick the Quickshot over an HVLP unit for portability, ease of use, and speed of spraying

Thanks for your videos, I've used a nova 390 for years and just bought the quickshot. So far I'm having a bad experience but you give me hope it can get better. First, cleaning black paint out and getting it ready for white paint seemed to take 5x the effort and time as a regular airless. And I'm having the same tip leaking problem. The first time I rinsed it with water, the tip leaked like crazy and I'm thinking we'll paint is thicker so its fine. I go to paint my first door and it drips paint twice each pass, going to have to sand the door and start over 🫠. I called my rep, he told me to call the spray source repair place and they seemed less than happy to give advice, said they've never heard of this problem and maybe I need to get a new tip seal. Didn't offer to bring it or even say it's free so idk.
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 3 ай бұрын
You are absolutely spot on with the cleaning- light to dark or dark to light takes a longer time to flush and switch. I think it cleans quicker with mineral spirits than water. As for the leaking… 😬😬😬 it all depends where the fluid is coming from. My problem was the middle seal of the tip guard was not engaged because the unit had been cross threaded from the factory- if you can’t get it completely hand tightened then that’s the problem. Have you tried a different tip guard combo with the unit?
@BK-gc1jm
@BK-gc1jm 4 ай бұрын
it's the spray guard seat that goes behind the tip that stops it from leaking the little teeny little metal thing with a little black seal

As with any sprayer, you need to figure out the right combination of tip size and pressure. I use a 308 FFLP tip for most of my spraying, which gives an incredible finish with most materials except thick latex

I think the GX19 would be better suited for spraying a full kitchen- the quickshot is definitely for smaller projects like a single vanity/wardrobe/built-in. I went with the quickshot for the ease of changing colors and spraying multiple different smaller projects in one day.

Can you use it to spray varnish?
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 8 ай бұрын
If it’s liquid and can be sprayed, yes- the gun comes with an integrated solvent (yellow) seal. Depending on the viscosity you may need to thin it your varnish to get it to lay down properly. I like this gun because I get a similar finish to HVLP at a much faster spray rate. There’s been a few smaller project that maybe I would’ve rather had an HVLP gun, but the Quickshot has been good enough for everything I’ve thrown at it so far

Can this sprayer be used with lacquer and non-water based paints??
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Жыл бұрын
Yes! Graco airless units typically have two different seals for the tip guard, black for water-based and yellow for solvent-based, that you would need to switch out when switching products. The Quickshot comes with an integrated yellow (solvent) seal, with the black (water) seal still in the tip guard. The quickshot also can go down to super low pressures to effectively those thinner materials 👍

I bought one and mine also leaks, but i really have to blast water non stop at a high setting. At about 7 and lower mine doesnt leak, no matter how long i blast water through it. Above 7 i get leaking but it's just such an unrealistic usage that i'm not really concerned that i will get leaks with paint. I'll report back if it does though.

@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 5 ай бұрын
If you have the money to spend, it’s a neat little gun. I don’t think it’s worth the full price, but it is periodically on sale at Sherwin Williams. Now that we’re almost a year past these original videos, here’s my long-term take: it’s super convenient to be able to easily spray small jobs and switch between primer/paint/clear. I love the short hose not being in the way/getting tangled and not wasting a lot of product every time I clean it. I love being able to spray different parts of projects in a variety of places without worrying about plugs/cords (ie inside and outside). I don’t like how hard it is to keep clean- you have to keep up with cleaning l/flushing the machine out or it will give you problems. You can’t drop the gun head in a bucket of water like a standard airless gun because of the electronics, so it is harder to keep from clogging between coats or if you get distracted. The projects I have been doing are getting bigger and bigger, so the sprayer is getting pushed to its limits. I maybe should have gotten the GX19 for my shop, but this is the perfect unit for smaller furniture and small projects

I was fortunate to have a sales rep help me out- I hope you can get this resolved quickly and easily as well!

So, is it worth plopping down the additional $400 over the Graco TC Pro Plus? I'm just a DIY guy painting something or another every other month around my house.
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Жыл бұрын
EDIT: I might be thinking of the wrong gun. It was either this one or the original QuickShot that had issues. Additionally, It looks like the TC pro gun doesn’t use the standard RAC guards and tips that most sprayers use, which limits how well you can spray The only reason why I wouldn’t go with the TC Pro Plus is that I’ve heard/read from a surprisingly large number of people/sources that the pump on that sprayer does not last very long, even with limited use.

I'm not sure I see the use for an airless sprayer for anything other than covering walls with paint quickly. If you're interested in painting furniture or trimwork, you'll likely get far better results with a Fuji Mini-Mite or Q series Turbine HVLP sprayer.
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Жыл бұрын
@H0kieJoe I mostly agree. Modern airless guns with an FFLP tip are virtually indistinguishable from HVLP- I’ve used a lot of low to mid-level HVLP units (turbine and compressor) and my biggest issues are figuring out the correct cap/tip sizes, thinning for proper viscosity, and how much slower they are to put down paint. Could be different with a higher end HVLP turbine unit.
@H0kieJoe
@H0kieJoe Жыл бұрын
@@SpottedTongueWoodworking Yeah, I watched that part of your video. The most important thing is to use a 4 or 5 stage turbine if you want to spray latex. After that, your tip size and viscosity are much easier to sort.

How's durability of KEM Aqua vs SW Gallery? I've read that Renner has better durability vs Gallery Series.
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 10 ай бұрын
@MadLadsAnonymous those are good questions. Gallery is a lot easier to spray than Kem Aqua because it has better vertical hang, but I think Kem Aqua has a slightly harder finish (or, at least cures faster). But, it was always like I was pulling teeth trying to get Kem Aqua in to my local store. I will continue to use the Kem Aqua Surfacer as my primer alongside Gallery as my topcoat. As for Renner vs Gallery, it all depends what comparison you’re making. If you’re comparing any 2k product with a catalyst to the 1k Gallery, then yeah, those will be better. But, for a 1k product that is available at any S-W store available for any consumer, Gallery does get the job done.

@@SpottedTongueWoodworking Thanks! Do you sand the surface before applying primer? Or even between primer coats, with something like 1000 grit?
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 10 ай бұрын
@MadLadsAnonymous I’m sanding all the time 😂 I’ll sand to 120 before primer, sand 120/220 between coats of primer, and then sand 220/320 between the finish top coats. Any higher than that and there won’t be enough texture for the paint to bond between layers and you’ll more likely have peeling or flaking
