The stability during flight is a result of the ‘pendulum effect’. A wonderful machine, easy to fly and very,VERY safe. If the engine conks out, no worries, its open, steerable parachute gets you safely down!

As the Narrator says, the easiest aircraft to fly. You just got to avoid telephone and electrical wires and poles. But oh, the joy of it all!

In Scottsdale, Arizona, the early 1990’s was all about flying. The Talking Stick Pavilions had just been built but not yet occupied, and the paved parking lot was the perfect place to take off and land. Flying over the Indian Reservation, I often flew very low, along side strings of wild horses. It wasn’t long before they got used to the sight and sound of my early Paraplane. What wonderful memories!

C/G, L/D, AOA being rewritten to accommodate a new form of "flight". Something to consider. "Aircraft" and "Airplane" has always meant a solid fuselage with solid "Wings" attached, with or without a power source as part of the rigid airframe. Now they are rewriting history, and refer to "parachutes" as a "Wing" and a "glider", but you can't deny that a parachute is still just something you pull out of a bag that is nylon with a bunch of "strings" attached, not to the center of gravity by the way, and you lay it on the dirty and sharp ground, untangle the strings, which you have to do very carefully or you will die, or at the very least change your skivees when your main parachute collapses and you have to hope and pray that you have some altitude and can get your reserve parachute out and thrown properly to save your life (which is exactly why it was invented in the first place). Added to the fact that you have a noisy and smelly explosive gasoline engine to deal with, which isn't easy unless you are a qualified mechanic too. A "powered parachute" gets it's power from running legs or a gasoline propeller, either way the so-called wing feels the same forces. Thing is when you add propeller power, which is many feet below the foil, you instantly introduce a high angle of attack which must be overcome or you stall and the incredible weight of the "trike and humans" pendulums or oscillates backward. A true airplane wing actually "carves" a turn using it's lift characteristics, but a "parachute flyer" has to initiate a turn by "breaking" one side or the other which can easily stall the "lift" if not done very carefully, and in turbulence the oscillation makes for a "not fun" experience. Also a parachute flyer can not "penetrate" in level flight and sometimes you have to push the stick forward when you're looking at the ground, which you can't do with a parachute. I was at Torrance Beach Calif. in 1969 when Dick Eipper modified a chainsaw engine with a propeller, strapped it to his back, got under his perfectly good flex wing "Hang Glider" and launched down the hill, only to almost kill himself and get a mouth full of sand. The flex wing ultralight aircraft industry was born on that day because the South Bay was the Airplane capital of the world. As an old pilot myself, I can't imagine "flying a parachute" that has no structure that you can see unless it is in the air. How do you do a pre-flight walk around when your "wing" is lying limp on the ground? Just saying.

Define and differentiate “Powered Parachute” as opposed to “Powered Paraglider”?

Hi Anthony. That's a big question. But I have you covered. I did a whole video on that! It's an oldie! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5fPhp2AfLypsKc

Hello, I fly a PPG. One of the things that happens when taking off in a PPG is that when the wing is inflating, the trike normally reverses a little. I imagine Powered Parachutes would not do that since their engines are more powerful, and the aircraft is heavier. Once you get the hang of it, a PPG would just as easy to get in the air as a Powered Parachute. PPG pilots normally just fly for about one hour or so. Like the Part 103 says, it's mostly intended for recreation. Very rarely ar PPG's used for competition. And yes, only one occupant.

@EasyFlight4 ай бұрын
@Randoman211-c5j Yes, it is called a paramotor in some countries. In the United States it is called a powered parachute.
@stevenstolfi544Ай бұрын
@@EasyFlightthere’s some difference between a power parachute and a paramotor. A power parachute weighs more and requires a license in the USA. A paramotor utilizes a paraglider in lieu of a parachute and typically weighs less than the FAA part 103 ultralight requirements meaning that most Paramotors do not require licensing

The FAA cares so little about 103 I doubt the FAA would do anything unless there is an incident. Simply having a single beer and then flying is certainly not going to draw any attention from the FAA. And I'm sure any attempt to seek enforcement action for that would easily be dismissed by an admin law judge. Now the same under part 91 or 130 is a big difference.

@robertgary3561, having a single beer and then flying from an airport won't go over so well.

So the written test for the sports pilot license is that the same as any sports pilot license? So if I want to transition to a two seater Quad city challenger is that a rating? But the same license? I plan on buying a two seater powered parachute in the future. But I also would like to transition to a fixed wing aircraft. and have both in the future

Roy...how I ve found you: intend fly a 103 aerolite but to begin better a trike glider...here is THE POINT...both collapse...think easily...so I understand need to safe...Beginner I thought I fly with my back parachute...but think is almost impossible get an open and safe parachute from a collapsed in a stoll to end of the story lol...Roy congatullations cause powered parachute says we can fly safe even in stoll and collapsed 103 aerolite ultra light with reserve rocket parachute ...Think I need a power parachute first and thats the way to ready for take off a parapent or pwer parapent or a aerolite 103 ultra light ...think a Power parachute is safe as walk around or fly a glider...can you bring a word about how scape out of a severe stoll not be stoped whithout a reserve launched parachute as in parapent collases? Congratullations for Easy Fligt lessons... we got this Willian Scott v...channel is about 103 aerolite ultra light flights...take a look to answer my requests...Thanks!!! Jesus bless you!

Flying at night is very important to sport pilots, pushing pilots to leave early in the daytime into hazardous weather is the opposite of promoting a safety culture, FAA needs to fix this immediately!
