the fire department's secondary commander centers were at floor 70. so the only consolation there is, is that the firefighters on the 70th floor had about 1 maybe 2 seconds of cognitive processing before they met their sudden end. those at the tops of the towers probably were alice until the end. though the floors probably broke free before landing, theyd have the longest amount of awareness before death

I was in Battery Park as they were building these 2 towers. They were about 1/2 way up at the time and I remember thinking those are going to be some massive buildings. Now, still in my own lifetime they are gone. Completely gone.

I was never in New York , i would love to see the memorial, but those poor souls had a cruel death and relations looking at those towers collapse knowing their loved ones were in there was inhumane. 2024 i still cry for those related to any of that horror. The crazy thing is, I have no idea how to explain the actions taken on 9/11 to my 3 year old when he's old enough to understand. After all, I was just a child myself (9 years old) when the towers fell. Even 23 years later, it doesn't feel real. I think a LOT of us never truly processed and dealt with it. The war distracted us from the dead, and then the strange this is that life just felt like it moved on. I have two nephews, 12 and 13. And when my brother and I talk about the attacks, they asked, "What's the big deal it was just some buildings." It seems like the way the attacks are described now to kid in school is that they "took down buildings." It was never about the buildings. It was about the 3000 innocent people (now even higher due to illness / cancer to rescue and cleanup workers) who perished in the blink of an eye.

The enormous amount of organisation required to remove everything had to be painstakingly done. The delicate removal of essentially body parts and hopefully survivors in pockets. It is absolutely dreadful to do one can imagine but done it was , respect to all.

All those people! So heartbreaking!
