Write a song that address this. But change it like I do and answer that you did not get what you want. Then what? “And did you get what you wanted from this life I did not! And what did you want? To be called beloved, to feel beloved on this earth!”

I stumbled on a British guitarist who analyses songs and music on youtube. And I was interested because the episode I saw was him saying why we will never hear anyone sing like Judy Garland again. He did a detailed vocal analysis of "Over The Rainbow" by Judy Garland and a version by Kelly Clarkson. He discusses how perfect Judy Garland sang. But for Kelly Clarkson he mentions that the reason we will never hear anyone like Judy Garland again is because of auto-tune. And he shows on a vocal analyzer how auto-tune dampens and makes Clarkson's vocals sound artificial compared to Judy Garlands. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHWtd2eih5iSm8k) So I was interested when I noticed he did an analysis of Mary Chapin Carpenter singing "He Thinks He'll Keep Her" on some show with a bunch of other female stars singing backup. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4nEmHtjm7iYetk) He didn't do the vocal analyzer thing. But he talks about how talented MCC is as a singer, songwriter, and musician. He compliments her on how smooth and natural she is playing the guitar and singing. That her vocals are perfect. I thought it was cute to watch him smile as he watches and listens to the video. He is clearly smitten with MCC. It was just cute to watch. He gushed over MCC as much as he gushed over Judy Garland. That is very high praise.

Interesting comment about being exhausted before the 2020 election. The upcoming 2024 election can be exhausting as well. Though I feel energized and hopeful that it will go well. I could use a little joy. And at least this time we are not at the height of a terrifying pandemic.

Mary, I'm so grateful for the way that you opened your home and your heart to us in those strange times. Your gentleness was an inspiration and reminder to offer the same towards each other and ourselves. This was one of my favorite episodes, but each and every one was like a visit from a dear friend. Thank you so much for being with us then and being with us still. God bless!

This is a good song. It brings to mind CSNY's song Ohio about Kent State. It takes courage to stand up for what is right.

I listened to the One Story podcast with MCC and Sarah Kay. It was fascinating listening to 2 very successful artists discuss their work, their concerns, their insecurities, and the ways their work has changed over time. I'm not creative like they are. And so I found their discussion very intriguing. As a former University Professor, I love to learn. And when I listen to Sarah Kay and Mary Chapin Carpenter, I realize there is so much more for me to learn.

I cannot help but laugh when I see MCC smile as Angus chews his squeaky toy. She never misses a beat, but Angus' joy and her grin lift my mood. We may not be at the height of a frightening new pandemic, her songs, her music, her voice, her artistry and her sense of joy are wonderful to experience.

I used to listen to Terri Clark's release of this song a lot during a particularly difficult time. It is a great song. I like the accompaniment by the bird trilling in the background. Someone please let me know you hear the bird too, because if it is just in my head, I need to make an appointment right away.

I love how Angus drops into these Songs From Home episodes. When the pandemic first hit, I was a Professor at a large University and had to switch to teaching online. We had no instruction on how to switch to online teaching, so I just did what I did in class - but with zoom. I have a giant black labrador who often thinks that if I am speaking, I must be speaking to her. So she comes next to me and does a high pitched whimper as if to say "I'm right here. I'm listening. Now pay attention to me." Students always wanted to see her. I don't blame them, she is much prettier than me. All that pretty shiny black hair. Big brown eyes. And a sweet smile.

This is such a beautiful song. It always amazes me how you write this poetry and the music. Reading other comments on this Songs From Home series, I see how much myself and others appreciate your sharing your words, songs, and music. Again, I am re-watching this series. I'm working from home these days. And as much as I love not having to dress up and drive to an office, it is isolating. I find Mary Chapin Carpenter's voice to be comforting. So thank you again Ms. Carpenter for your generousity of spirit in making these videos and sharing your music.

Thank you Ms. Carpenter for these Songs from Home. I'm rewatching them. It brings back some of the anxiety and uncertainty to think back to 2020. But I draw great comfort from your music and your voice. I very much appreciate your sharing it all with us. You are not only very talented, but also very generous. I love this song from the Stones in the Road album. It made me cry the first time I heard it. And it still brings tears to my eyes.

I am re-watching these Mary Chapin Carpenter masterpieces as I work. It is 4 years later, but Covid is still around. There are new variants and new vaccines out now. Apparently this most recent variant has been pretty brutal and hospitalizations are up. I've "stayed mighty" and diligent for the past 4 years and have successfully avoided Covid. I've also avoided the flu. I haven't even had a cold in 4 years. I've been working from home. When the pandemic first started, I was teaching at a major University. We went remote. When it was time to go back into the classroom couple years ago, I "retired" and now just consult from home. It is great to be able to work from home. No time wasted commuting every day. The downside is I'm more isolated than I should be. I find Mary Chapin Carpenter's music and voice to be soothing to my soul. Comforting. I really love this song, "Soul Companion". This is a great version. Though I am partial to the recorded version with James Taylor (another of my favorite poet-singer-songwriter-muscians).

Mary, You were always one of my greatest influences to learn guitar, sing and write songs. I saw you in the early 90's at the Bob Carpenter center in Newark, DE with my late grandfather Ted. It was a spectacular performance and a memory I will always cherish. You and this video were in my mind today as my Mom lost her precious Yorkie Bella a few weeks ago and she has been grieving and hasn't even took a walk. I understand her pain so I just showed her this video. Thank you for your beautiful gift of song to the world. I was meditating and kept getting a message to contact you. Your name and music wouldn't leave my mind. I apologize for doing through your KZbin but it was the only way I knew how to contact you. When you can, would you please listen to my song, "Smooth-Talkin' Bill." I normally do this song acoustic but the producer put full instrumentation on the song. I had the long haul covid after working around the elderly and it negatively affected my voice for a while and then my recording sessions were cancelled when Sheffield studios shut down due to the pandemic but I kept on keeping on and was finally able to get into the studio and cut this song. It was inspired by a true story of an email I received from a gal I didn't even know and also from listening and singing to a lot of 90's country. Hopefully, I will be releasing songs every month that are strictly acoustic as well. It would do my heart good if you would listen and pass this along. Take care and can't wait to hear you sing live somewhere soon. Melanie kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpPJd5VmiZatrbssi=55G-IN1My4yZczx0

Thanks, again Mary Chapin. I have been unable to catch any of your live concerts. Legally blind really limits travel. Pretty much anyone I know who travels by plane comes home with COVID. My chances are not good with that. And the folks in the medical facilities where I volunteer to play and sing (memory care, assisted living, hospitals) wouldn't like it. God bless!
