Thanks for the update! Lol at the Banana Bread episode! Sounds like she had a great day!😂 I'm happy to hear these 9 months have worked well for you money wise. I taught full-time for 8 years, but in two different states, so not long enough for any pension from either. I did get the couple thousand I had vested in each, and I did sock that away, from the first state. From the second, my car gave up the ghost just a bit after I had received it, and that helped us pay outright for a decent used car. My husband never made big bucks, but he did make enough, that with a lot of penny pinching I was able to stay home with my kids. I had them late though, at 30 and 38, and after teaching other people's kids for 8 years, I wanted to be able to give my own my full attention. Also, my husband traveled A LOT for his job. And when I taught I put my whole heart and soul into that job, and often was really wrung out at the end of the day. With me being the only parent, they would have a lot of weekday evenings, I wanted to give them my whole energy and attention. I have the utmost respect for single moms who have no choice but to work and I'm eternally grateful we were able to get by, with just one income. As a teacher I never made a whole lot any way in either Kansas or Missouri. And when I figured in what I'd be paying for daycare, and buying clothes more often, and wear and tear, and gas for my car. I wouldn't have come out much ahead. Definitely at retirement time, it would have been nice, but I've never regretted staying home. We did think somewhat ahead though. And by the time I was in my early 40s, I started doing a yearly IRA. At first back then, the limit you could put in was $250, but even that gave us a bit of a tax break, plus savings. I did save any rebates I got on grocery items, etc. And my folks gave us $100 at Xmas every year, so I saved that. Later when credit cards started giving you rebates I saved those. And if my husband's job didn't have a retirement program he, too, did IRAs. Then awhile after my daughter went off to college I spent 7 years, with a little part time job at with our local high school's speech team, as a traveling coach. It was basically a slightly compensated volunteer job, and I cleared not quite $200 a month, but I saved all that as well. Because in Missouri teachers don't put money in SS, just the state pension fund, I ended up a few quarters shy of qualifying for SS on my own. So started at 62 drawing from my husband's. He continued to work full time until just past 70, and I retired totally a few months later, at 68. Anyhoo with what we get combined in SS, and him getting out the required minimun distributions from his IRAs both private, and through 3 different retirement accounts, from various companies we're getting by ok and so far haven't had to touch our savings really. We did need some major renovations a few years back on our 40 plus years old house, and we did need an equity loan to pay for that. But now have that all paid off. But having that account has given us a bit of a cushion when we really needed it. But basically living really frugaly from 1980 (when I was 30, and began as a stay at home mom) on, so far we're doing ok. My dad passed away in '01, and my mom in '13. They were never wealthy by any means, but also lived frugally, and ended up leaving a bit of left over money to my sister and me. So I've left my part invested like they had it, so that too is there should we need it. But haven't so far. Anyway, a lot of people would say I wasn't looking ahead, by being a stay at home mom, but we got our house paid off some time ago, so have the normal bills and maintenance, but no house payment or rent, so that helps, and by living mostly frugally, I think we're doing ok. And can spend now and then on traveling. We keep our cars until they die, though, and my husband is a real fixit person, so he keeps appliances, plumbing, etc., going as long as possible, so that has saved us a ton over the years, too. But yes, you're right, thinking ahead and trying to save money when you can definitely is wise!

Being able to stay at home with the kids is such a blessing. I was able to do that for short periods of time or just work part time, but eventually had to go full time. Also we moved so much that we never were in a home long enough to pay one off. That is something I regret. Thank you for sharing your storybwith me. I hope you have a blessed week and a Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄

Hi there Roxanne 🙋‍♀️ It’s good to see you! I so enjoyed your story about your sweet doggy getting up to get his/her banana bread treat lol! A few years ago I had a rather large dog, part Labrador. I had taken out a T-bone steak from the freezer to start thawing out. I had to leave for a short while and put it down in inside the sink in a freezer bag. Yep, you probably already guessed it. When I came back home, I saw a freezer bag on the kitchen floor and went to look inside the sink and it was totally empty…she had eaten the frozen steak, bones and all in the short time I was gone! 😱Well what can ya do? She had a good dinner that day, lol! 🥴 I hope you enjoy your week! 🩷😘

Ok, cup addiction first. The one you got is cute and practical, so I'd say you did well, on your giving 3 away. So maybe not too addicted. I have a few more of those drink to go cups than we need, but not as many as you. When I saw your title, I was thinking mug type cups. I do have quite a few of those. Some in the cupboard and some out on display that are special ones. So those might be a bit of an addiction for me. But haven't bought any for a long time. You already know we share the bag addiction. But I did get rid of a bunch a few years ago, and probably need to purge again, soon. My other huge one is bells. That all started as just trip souvenirs, but once we started thrifting more, my collection has grown expotentially! 😂 Now, on the gas, thing, I wonder if that's a regional issue? Because oddly here in Missouri and Kansas (we live on the state border, so are back and forth a bunch), the prices have actually gone down a bit the last few weeks. You'd know better than me, if it happens every year? But I wondered if it could be a supply and demand issue, with all the snowbirds back in town? Just a thought. I noticed you said it was cheapest at Sam's Club. That's usually the case here, too. And speaking of Sam's Club, a few years ago, I got a Master's Charge from there. No charge for it, and with just the basic membership, you get 5 percent back, on gas, at any station including theirs, and 3 percent on restaurants, 1 percent on everything else. The way it's set up, you go in whenever you choose, and they look up how much you've earned since the last time, and they'll give it to you in cash. I think you can also have it deducted from your card bill. Or there's things you can order. I just get the cash then put that in my savings account. I know credit cards aren't for everyone. But I only use it for things I would buy anyway, mainly gas and when we eat out, and always pay it off every month. So I never pay interest. Anyhoo, just another way to save a bit more on gas. Only requirement to have it is that you keep your Sam's membership renewed. I went in the other day, to cash in my earned rebate. Had last done that about a year ago, and I had $311 and some change coming. So it does add up. It helps that we took a couple of road trips at the end of last year. And now we'll be going to KY to see our son, on Tues. And be there until Monday of the next week. We don't usually stay that long. But this will be the first time we've been down there, this year, so doing a bit longer visit, since it's been so long since we've seen him and his wife, in person! But that'll be a bunch of gas and meals, so more rebate credit! You have a Happy Thanksgiving! And I agree with the other commenter, on what we may see happening ahead. Enjoy your weekend!!

Oh I do have coffee mugs too, lol. I gave probably 20 to the thrift store earlier this year. I always seem to get a new one when I go to the Polish Pottery store in Colorado. Can't help it. Lol I used to collect bells too. I don't know what happened to them, but somewhere between the 9th and 11th move i guess I downsized them. 😮 Aa for gas, I don't know, it seems to be higher here than Colorado but not as high as California, so somewhere in the middle. Anyway, have a great trip!

Interesting to hear your opinion on those shoes. I have neuropathy pain at night with my feet, and I've been tons of ads for them on Facebook and here. But the ones I've seen are way uglier than yours. I guess they're running or walking shoes, and just slip on I think, and are shaped like feet. I didn't know they had other styles. I guess my only hesitation is without trying them on not sure I'd know what size to buy. My feet are really tough to fit-very narrow heels, but medium on the ball and toes. That does sound like a really good price, for the off brand. Might be worth a try. Love those purses, both really pretty. Your prayer shawl is beautiful. And I love that the bracelet came to you, at a perfect time! Definitely was a sign. Here my life has been pretty much about physical therapy, due to some knee issues. And next week we'll be heading out of town to visit our son and his wife. Have a good rest of your week! 😊

Aw, Roxanne, what a beautiful story, and loved seeing the pictures. I'm sure it's felt long to you, but when you said it had been a year, I was surprised. I remember you had mentioned at some point, a ways before he died that he was in a wheelchair. I wondered why that was, but of course, I wasn't going to ask. It was your choice when and if you wanted to tell us that. In a way, yours was the true American dream story. High school sweethearts, a lot of moves, but with each one you were stepping up to nicer and nicer homes. I'm so sorry he was so ill, and in pain, but it sounds like you were happy, in spite of that. And yes, I could tell when he passed that you were not expecting that. And I know how hard that had to be. I love that the Lord eventually spoke to you, though, and brought you to a place of peace and acceptance! It's pretty amazing how that can happen sometimes! I know telling us this story probably wasn't easy, and I so appreciated that you trusted us with it. Thank you, and I hope God continues to bring you Peace!! ❤

Aww, that doggy's adorable! I know you have to be happy to have a dog around again! I always thought I didn't really care for cooked celery either. But some years ago, when we had left-over Turkey, from Thanksgiving, my son who was in high-school at the time was home with his sister. I don't remember where, but my husband and I had to go somewhere. And when we got home, my son surprised us with homemade turkey and noodle soup, he made following a recipe on a chicken broth can. For it you cut up both the onions and celery in small pieces, and sauteed those first in butter, before adding the other ingredients. They both tasted wonderful with that extra butter flavor. And I've used that recipe ever since with chicken, also. And yes, my son who's in his 40s now still likes to cook. And his wife who is also a good cook, appreciates that he shares those duties. Hope your picnic went well!!
