I started JJ's program on strength+ and love it. You may like it because in the instructor created programs you get audio form cues and encouragement. His also is the one with the least machine moves that you might have to sub out. Highly recommend Kendrick Lamar's new album for strength!

I'm glad you liked it! I've been doing classical pilates for a year now and I love it. Usually, the recommendation for beginners is to do at least one private session before doing small group classes. It helped me engage the correct muscles when doing the exercises. Some studios actually don't accept students in group classes without doing a private session first. Prior to my first private class, I hated doing the hundred! No wonder because I was doing it wrong. lol. The hundred is actually really difficult to do but it's considered a warm up move in pilates. I have done some exercises on the cadillac (the tower is one end of a cadillac) and it's great too! :)
@EmmaAdamss
@EmmaAdamss 12 сағат бұрын
how many times a week do you go?? I feel like pilates is all the rage now haha. and yeah I've always thought the hundreds was hard - to my understand it's just a hollow body hold (hard on it's own!) and then adding more core activation by pumping the arms. even in the peloton classes they just very casually do it!! I want to try tower as well but I really like reformer. not sure if I should just stay in one lane for now since I am a beginner!

Four Seasons is a gorgeous resort and we've been fortunate to have stayed there for 7 nights/8 days on one of our trips and have also done day passes there on a few other times! I've learned not to be too specific with my goals because I also change things up often. Far more important to me is to be consistent. So my goals tend to revolve around consistency such as the instructor challenge (taking a class with every instructor) and getting my blue dot in the Peloton app every day. Right now I am riding the wave of pace target running. I'm wary of making a running-specific goal, so all I have in place for myself is to do one outdoor racing event. And for sure I'm doing Total Strength 2. You totally convinced me!

Robin is the most polarizing instructor on the platform. Some love her, but I avoid her like the plague. She's the VP/head instructor and I think she assigns herself the most popular artists. I've heard good things about the P!nk ride, but I have avoided it because of Robin. I think Kendall is enormously popular and wanted to be paid on the level of Robin, Jess Sims, and Cody. And that's just not sustainable for Peloton. I'm sorry her feelings were hurt but I would rather have the company make smart financial decisions than keep too many larger than life personalities. Love when you're able to get back on the bike! I've been following you for years and to see you back to your "roots" brings me joy!
@EmmaAdamss

yeah I know she is the VP of programming or something like that but it feels like other instructors must be giving her side eye for always taking the most popular rides. She's hit or miss for me - sometimes I love her but sometimes I really don't. I think Kendall's classes were so popular because people were freaking out, thinking her classes would be made unavailable, so they took a bunch of them. I personally despised Robin's TS and Pink rides. My least favorite rides ever. CED's Pink ride is far superior. Robin does not do artist classes well. She talks/sings way too much, the classes aren't challenging and she's super annoying. If you like hip hop, Jess' Ludacris ride was fabulous.
@EmmaAdamss
@EmmaAdamss 28 күн бұрын
ahh that also makes sense, since her rides are just very normal rides that are so popular! I have taken CDE's pink ride as well and enjoyed it!! It is weird to me that Robin gets sooo many artist series rides, and also gets the really popular ones. There has to be an instructor that could've done a better TS ride at least. I will check out the Ludacris ride - I love Jess! I also took Alex's class w/ Lil jon, and although it was all over the place it was very fun haha

Kendall Toole left after salary negotiations as I recall from the news. It makes sense that if she is creating some of the most popular content that the company should pay her more, but Peloton has been transitioning from a growth strategy to a membership maintenance strategy as it tries to return to profitability after Covid. I’m guessing they are capping salaries and telling instructors to work their personal brands if they want more income. For some instructors, like Jess King, with a lot of visibility outside Peloton, this works. But I don’t think Kendall has comparable celebrity.
@EmmaAdamss
@EmmaAdamss 28 күн бұрын
yeah I feel like for Kendall there could have also been a potential for an LA studio when Peloton was blowing up, but now that they're not growing a lot that is unlikely and she wanted to go back to socal. I know she does podcast at least now but I don't follow her at all. I would be so curious how much instructors make and what kind of bonuses they get for popular content!!
@jag5316
@jag5316 28 күн бұрын
@@EmmaAdamss Rather than opening another static studio, maybe Peloton should develop a road show strategy to broaden their appeal to a younger audience. State universities with big athletic programs have great facilities to record classes. I get the impression from the Leader Board that most hard core members are in the 30-50 age range. It’s the pricey equipment and membership fees that probably suppress the market appeal to 20-somethings but Peloton could try offering student discounts.
@EmmaAdamss
@EmmaAdamss 28 күн бұрын
@@jag5316 yeah I could definitely see them doing something like that! honestly just hitting the road would be super popular as their are so many users that I'm sure never make it to NYC. maybe in the future if they ever have more money haha. my guess with the older user base is that a lot of young people like going to fitness studios as well compared to parents who are busier and peloton fits into the schedule more.

Peloton might have accidentally released a pace targets class in July to app users (it was a Club Bangers by Alex) and I tried it based on my estimated pace targets (I decided my 5k pace would equate to the challenging pace). I was convinced these were the greatest running classes because there is so much variation in running levels and different instructors have wildly different callouts. I use a sticky note! IMO the best part about this modality is that it teaches you what's appropriate in the non-pace target classes. i don't need a ton of endurance pace targets classes because once I know my paces I can apply them to any class.
@EmmaAdamss
@EmmaAdamss Ай бұрын
yes I love the personalization instead of just (usually) wide call outs by instructors. plus I feel like it pushes me a little more, sometimes I choose lower callouts then I should I think! I honestly have my pace target memorized now that I've done so many classes haha!

Pilates reformer classes are $45-150 an hour. It can be $250 a month compared to a regular gym membership. Pilates is the most comprehensive statistically researched exercise since 1920s they used it to try navy seals too. Typically classic pilates is easier and then athletic pilates. Try imx pilates there pilates reformer machine is difficult but might be less crazy then solidcore. It cheaper to buy a pilates reformer and take free classes on KZbin, videos, or $30 a month online classes. The Pilates reformers are not cheap but monthly unlined memberships are so expensive that it cheaper just to buy a reformer and learn it.

My take on these split+ classes--they are designed for people who either 1) love that particular instructor or 2) have terrible decision fatigue or just don't enjoy stacking their own classes. There is no part of me that wants to do all my strength and cardio with the same instructor for a week and then I'm supposed to repeat this week after week? No thank you! There are significant benefits to progressive overload, but there is no need to repeat the exact same cardio classes to get those results. On top of that, I have zero desire to do workouts with either Olivia or Ben, so there's that. lol. (I did try one of Ben's classes. It's nice to have a seamless transition from floor to bike, but I'm perfectly fine picking a different class for afterwards.)
