I remember reading in one of his books that Neil was uncomfortable being out front because he was so used to looking at the other guys in the band for certain cues. It didn't really occur to him until he was out there and kept instinctively looking back to the other guys.
Soooooo much more musical as a drummer than Buddy ever was. Just my opinion........

I don't really get this stuff, I can't stand jazz and never liked brass but interesting to see a musician who played soundtracks of my life (and many others) across gens, at his craft. Thanks for the memories professor.

No one more qualified than Louie to lead Buddy's band. They had some great drum battles... namely an LP " Are you ready for this". Louie maybe more inventive and musical.... Buddy brutal, fast and always the one to chase. Two of the greatest drum technicians who have ever lived. There are great drummers out there now...Weckle, Paice, Palmer the list is long. But when we lost Buddy and Louie some of the magic disappeared from drumming.
@davidr68562 ай бұрын
That wasn't quite Buddy's band. I'd have to study more carefully to get most of the names, but the lead trumpet player is Bobby Shew. At the time time was recorded Bobby was playing lead for Louie's band and a couple of others. He had not play with Buddy for a long time.

Great video, I'm just disappointed you cut out the dance break, that was the best part of the video 😢
@_bencebacsi3 ай бұрын
Thank you but I'm afraid, you didn't get the point of this video. Please read the description. The album version of this song does not contain that dance part. The reason of this edition is to provide the best possible audio quality synced with some scenes from the original video clip.

...and whatever you say to me IT IS a miracle ! Saw this a thousand times and this one is really a treasure !!! Can you say what exact tool you have used ?
@_bencebacsi3 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind words. Actually I used quite a few different video- and audio editing tools but the 3 most important tools were the followings: Topaz Video AI processed the video upscale, SVP 4 Pro the 60fps frame rate conversion + Adobe Audition and my ears (no AI but I'm a pro-musician) the audio remaster. Now I had to re-encode the original 4K video in 4:3 aspect ratio to be able to re-upload it on YT.

Cool thanks again...I have quite some DVD/Vids from the 80's/90's (e.g. Weckl/Steve Smith/Erskine/Chaffee...would love to have it in an up to date quality...). How did you check if a video is allowed for being published or not on YT ? (Sorry for my questions...)@@_bencebacsi
@_bencebacsi3 ай бұрын
@@MKDreieich You don't need to check it yourself, the YT check algorithm will do that after you uploaded the video.

Wondering if you could do a remaster on the "trio jam" session as well (Weckl/Gadd/Colaiuta together on stage) . Anyway fantastic job !

Whats the story about what happened between Will Calhoun and Neil Peart during the drum battle?
@bassadelica2 ай бұрын
Legend is, apparently there was a portion where they traded 4’s back and forth.. Peart would play an idea, Calhoun would respond and 1-up it. It escalated to the point of embarrassment, people felt bad for Neil. Supposedly Peart took time to focus on jazz chops after the experience. Someone correct me if I’m wrong. Would love to see the exchange on video
@ciadella19712 ай бұрын
@@bassadelica I would like to see it too. I also heard that the crowd was chanting Neil! Neil! So that supposedly set off Cahoun.
@bassadelica2 ай бұрын
@@ciadella1971 well it was his event and put together the Burning For Buddy record. House full of Rush fans I’m sure. Even more reason it was a little disrespectful for Calhoun to annihilate the host 😆

I’ve seen this many times. The remastering is great 👌🏼Thanks for that. Now I can see that Steve’s ride is one of his two 18” EAK prototype rides while it looked like a 20” K Custom ride before. In these Buddy Memorial Scholarship most drummers are playing a lot of notes, which I can understand because Buddy did, but here Steve does his own thing which is always playing to make the music and band sound good. Carry the band and so on. One of the reasons why he’s my #1 favourite drummer/musician.

Unfassbar guter Drumsound , blitzschnelles kreatives Spiel, und man sieht Louie an , wieviel Freude er beim spielen hat. Unglaublich , was der Mann hier zeigt . In der Serie " Superdrumming " sah man , das er die Bassdrums mit Holzbeatern anspielt , sicherlich ein Grund für diesen knackigen Bassdrumsound
