The Buddy Rich Memorial Scholarship Concert with The Buddy Rich Big Band and Steve Gadd in Los Angeles, 1989.
Tracks:
00:02 - Keep the Customer Satisfied (part I.)
03:18 - Drum solo
04:31 - Keep the Customer Satisfied (part II.)
05:35 - Just in Time
Upscaled to 2160p@60fps resolution with AI technology + remastered audio.
Source: DVD by DCI Music Video Inc., 2006
The source is not only low resolution but also low quality and over compressed video with badly recorded audio, so don't expect a miracle. The audio remaster was focused on the drum set and the bass.

As a bassist of some decades, I've played with and listened to many drummers with differing styles and genres. For me, Stevie Gadd is the most indepth, thinking and emotive artisan of this immense craft I've had the privilege to watch and listen to. If you study carefully, he actually leaves space for the listener to enter into the piece. He doesn't just blitz your mind with 15 million beats, but he (in my humble opinion) gives you time process and obsorb as you drift into his musical journey. He never adds an unnecessary beat but plays precisely what is needed. Observe, when the piece is done it's done!! He steps back giving the audience an opportunity to reflect on the sound and not the person!! Steve Gadd, a craftsman of the highest order!

He KILLS it, the way he lays into it! Honestly, the whole track just swings like a monkey from a tree. It has been one of my favorites for years.

There one of two reactions to watching this vid: either rush to kit and start practicing or ... just give up 'cos I'll never be anything like as good as this !!!

Specific lick at 3:51 is the most disgusting of the entire concert

Eric is a great leader and ambassador for alto sax players around the world

Brian Grivna (the alto player wearing glasses, who looks a bit like the tenor player next to him) also makes the most of his solo spot. He and Eric got their one spot each in this video. Tom Peterson got to duel with Steve Marcus on 'Ya Gotta Try'. No solo for Greg Smith? And here he had that personalized tune from Hank Levy 'A Smith Named Greg' on the Kenton '76 album....

I’ve seen this many times. The remastering is great 👌🏼Thanks for that. Now I can see that Steve’s ride is one of his two 18” EAK prototype rides while it looked like a 20” K Custom ride before. In these Buddy Memorial Scholarship most drummers are playing a lot of notes, which I can understand because Buddy did, but here Steve does his own thing which is always playing to make the music and band sound good. Carry the band and so on. One of the reasons why he’s my #1 favourite drummer/musician.
