I think if one moves to a new country one will inevitably experience all the issues you are talking about in this video. I came to Canada from the Netherlands 71 years ago but still there are days when I do not feel like a Canadian. Just having a strange name is enough to set people off. I think that the best thing to help anyone integrate into a new society is to completely drop the old one. Whole hog or nothing!

You missed the Bouvigne castle with its gardens, in the Mastbos! The old town hall in the main square and the statuebof the fisherman in the back, opposite the infopoint Breda. Also de "Blind wall" trail is nice to do with many murals...Ginneken Markt and the roads to it.... For a next visit i also recommend Baarle-Nassau/Hertog, a very particular town with belgian enclaves!

Well...if you wanna make friends in the Netherlands it is wise to join a sports club or a join a hobbyclub...that is the fastest way to learn the culture...and try to speak Dutch to show you are interested in their culture...remember they took the time to learn your language...I can't be a one way way street... Keep up the good work and I am sure you will make lots of friends...

I think there is a big rock in town, but only from research. Its probably near the Rock Brewery or at least where the brewery got its namesake. I might be there next week. Maybe I will find the rock!

You only comment on just about everything about the Netherlands. The Dutch food culture is not that good? we have many more unique snacks compared to America. Since the discovery of the country, America has copied everything from the rest of the world. So America has no food culture at all. it's all fast food copied from other countries. and the worst part is that something healthy from the rest of the world, you ruin it by adding way too much fat.

4:51 Croisants are delicious and we definitely eat them, but have you seen its butter content? If you eat one every once in a while the ¼ to ⅓ butter content and €1 orso you pay are not a problem, but it is not something you would like to use to fill your stomach on a daily basis. You will gain weight realy fast and for three croisants you can get a whole loaf of bread, of which one person can eat for a weak.

I want to visit, but it's sooooo darn expensive. The Airbnb & other apps' rents are like $2,500/month and up. Plus, one way airfare is about $1,000, no matter what time of year I check or which flight website l use. 😟

It's a pity that the Netherlands did not bring you what you were looking for. Perhaps too high expectations? You lived in the most densely populated part of the Netherlands. Have you returned to Texas now? If so, I hope this was a nice adventure to remember, to look back on later in your life. I wish your both all the best

I will say to all who come to the Netherlands: Learn how to speak dutch! If you dont we feel you are not really want to integrate. I know it is hard. But if you show that you are trying , you will get help most of the time and people will warm up more to you.

a lot of things are smaller in the Netherlands we are a pretty small country so we have to use every little bit of space. In the USA ,there is so much more space (huge country) that you dont have to limit the size of houses and their facilities as much as we do. as for the stairs same thing, make them steep to fit the space

I watch a lot of video's of Americans that moved to the Netherlands and only rarely do I recognise my own country in them. Most of the things the two of you said in this video are (partially) correct, but only from the viewpoint of someone living in the bigger cities in the Netherlands (de Randstad). You can have everything you want if you're willing to look further outside that area. :)

I do not agree that it compensates the wages/salaries in Eurooe. Let's see Norway. The perks are in reality a pack of lies. Because let's assume you have a salary of NOK 600.000. If you are sick or with maternity leave , in theory one is supposed to get paid during 8 months, 60%. The reality looks like this: there is always a "ceiling/top" as far as receiving is concerned, never for paying taxes though. So if the receuving ceiling is NOK 300.000, one gets 60% of 300.000, not from the 600.000 that is the salary from which taxes are deducted. It is all apack of lies. The same goes for retirement and holidays. There is in fact no holiday pay. As one just receives only 11, 5 of 12 months, roughly.😂

If you arrange to go out at 6 and don’t show up until 7 I wouldn’t even be there anymore. Unless I had received a text or call with a realistic ETA.
@karinvandervliet88532 ай бұрын
The showing up unexpected thing is a city thing. In my area you get invited in and get coffee with something to nibble on. But if the person you’re visiting had plans they will tell you and they won’t cancel those for you.

Also go the south to the province of Limburg and the beautiful city of Maastricht, you'll find it is a bit more hilly there, or go to Den Bosch, they have the largest cathedral of the Netherlands, totally refurbished, took 10 years to do it. I orginally come from the Netherlands, but have been living in Melbourne, Australia for the last 50 years, nice, but nothing to compare with my country of birth. I have been back many times, but the trip takes 24 hours by plane, however my heart is still where you are now. By the way I come from Amsterdam. Another nice place to visit is Haarlem, greetings Gerard.
