"There's no one to blame, but Martin himself" ~ you are 1000% correct! I can't believe many haters out there miss this telling point. The only, ONLY reason why GoT got into a tough spot in first place was coz the original author couldn't even finish his books which forced D&D in a very very unfair predicament. Yet the haters only wanna blame them and never ever Martin as if he's godly infallible, or some BS like that. What D&D had to put up with was seriously commendable. What's almost as unfair is this video analysis of yours isn't widely watched. Hopefully it hits a higher view count as time goes by! Great work.

This video is criminally underappreciated. An excellent, impartial take on the subject.

I think it is the best adaptation of a book series we have ever seen on tv because it has stayed true to the source material until it there wasn't anymore material available. GRRM has still been in contact with D&D when questions were asked and did supple them with an outline for seasons 6, 7 and final season 8. The ways for the story to get to these conclusions in the final 3 seasons will be different but the final outcome will be the same. I applaud D&D on their efforts and have completely enjoyed watching this journey for all 7 seasons and the last one upcoming.

They didn't run out of material as of season 5. They had Dorne, they had Young Griff, they could have had Stannis, Wyman Manderly, and the Mountain Clans. They chose to omit them even though they knew they had to stall for Martin.

Only one person to blame, George. He knew the show would get to this point if he didn't finish his books, yet here we are still waiting. It's not like HBO were gonna put the show on hiatus. He had years from planning the tv show to now. He should have finished the books.

Great analysis. I don't feel as disappointed as most people I've seen react negatively to S7, perhaps because GoT has always felt like an adaptation to me, in the litteral sense of the word. When I think of the characters in the book I still picture the same image my own mind shaped for them instead of the people in the show, and that goes for the places and the story itself as well. The show is brilliant, it deserves all the praise it got and stands on its own, and much better than even some of the most acomplished fantasy or period themed films in recent years. The added time a tv show allows the story and the plot already helps it in feeling more substantial than some 2.5 hour movie. And yet I do see the cracks here and there. I do see the rushing through the story, and this is obviously because the tv writers need to build the story without the nuance and artistry of the creator. All the filler GRRM puts in the books is not in fact filler, it's what links plot points together and gives context and motivation to the characters to take action. When all you're given are the major events of a plot, that's all you have to work with. And what's lacking in the show is exactly that juicy "filler". I've written my own stories and completely get what authors like GRRM say about the writing process: often the characters will lead you through the text as you write it, and those llittle moments of reflection, realization and reaction make them feel grounded, and do so for the story as well. I'll enjoy S8, I'm sure, but more than the show I definitely want the books. There is a lot that was left behind for the show to be viable and I want those ends recovered and tied together.

Yeah, and that is what makes Martin's writing so good. He lets the characters be themselves and not plot devices. I'm looking forward to season 8 but man it won't be the same without the guiding hand of Martin. But we have to accept it for what it is, and I still think it's great as a big, epic, fantasy tv series. Thanks for watching!

This was really well balanced. Even though I'm no longer in love with the show anymore because I see too many weaknesses in the writing but from a production standpoint the series is a masterpiece and it rivals hollywood cinema. The show is at its best when it utilizes visual storytelling to its upmost capacity. That's why I'm dissapointed when it doesn't. It's still engaging I think but its lost that special sauce that Martin brought to the table which is unfortunate. That grounded, meticulous attention to detail and richly layered morally grey characters are lost due to the faster pace and an emphasis on spectacle. I can understand Dan and Dave's position though they got the short of the stick and I don't think they're bad writers just inconsistent to a fault and are much better adapters. They clearly care about the material. Do you think they should have gotten some more writers on board after series 5 if possible to create more of a collaboration?
@IntrospectiveEntertainment6 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but they've always written the bulk of the seasons and they probably felt a personal need to keep the tradition since they have such affection for the story. It speaks volumes that they are directing the series finale.

The drop from season 1 to season 7 is so big, that I am really angry with the writers. It is so dumbed down and they don't take the fanbase seriously. I still watch since it is entertaining, but it is not special anymore like the first incredible season.

No, definitely not in my opinion. Even the first season, which fan spaces often point to as the best one adaption-wise, is still a far throw away from a good adaption, I feel, after having rewatched it.

The only part of Season 6 that felt like game of thrones was Hodor. Everything else was .... Jamei should have been killed by Arya along with the Freys. In season 7 Euron should have usurped Cersei.Dany should still be in Mereen and Jon would journey to Mereen to invite her to assist in the Fight against the night king. Drogon the wanderer should have flown to the north during the battle of Bastered and set ablaze the Boltons when they surrounded Jon and his Wildlings. After turning the tide of the war he will fly away. I dont like the Sansa proping they did with Jon's victory and coronation which gives Sansa right to undermine Jon turning the scared little girl into what I dont recognize.
