Honestly, this is why I usually stay away from the Mario RPG fandoms in general. Since personally for me, I just want to enjoy the game. Hence why I usually stay away from Reviews in general, since I rather play and judge something for myself. So when I saw what IGN said about Brothership, I decided to never trust anything they ever again.

I'm glad there's others out there who feel the same level of excitement I do for Reclusa. He's super expressive and unhinged in very entertaining ways, and has in my opinion the coolest visual design of any Mario & Luigi villain. His actual evil plan and connection to the game's core themes are great, and while I know it isn't meant to be, I truly wish that he could have had more time to shine. The boss battle inside the Soli-Tree is a feast for the eyes as well, probably one of the prettiest and most striking aesthetics I've seen in the series, with the pure white of the Weeping Core probably being my favorite. I will say that the music didn't quite wow me, although it did have some good parts. Really I just wish there was a bit more variety to differentiate each phase instead of playing the same song with slightly different pacing and instrumentation, but I think I can live with it being as-is. While Reclusa might not have had the same slow-burn buildup or screen time as Fawful, I definitely consider him among the ranks of my favorite Mario villains now.

I really wasn't expecting him to be like a silly jester type villain. I was expecting to him to be like more dark and serious and Evil. So I was a bit surprised. But I think it emphasizes pretty good on the idea that believing life is better being alone and not being connected to others is a joke. 🤡

Reclusa has a hilarious =) face if you try to hit him with an attack he can avoid.

My only problem with Reclusa is that his Battle Ost is not remotely good as the others... ...the rest? OH MY GOD, what an incredible villain.

The toads in the M&L series have always been mostly generic. Partner’s in Time had more unique designs, but as the series progressed from there things would become more generic. The only unique toads to appear in Inside Story were Toadbert from Partners in Time, Toadsworth, and the doctor guy. Dream Team had basically only generic Toads, but it was less noticeable there because of all the other races like the Beanish, Shelltops, the Hoohoo guys, and, well, I guess the Zeekeeper mascots aren’t really a unique species… When Paper Jam rolled around it was the middle of the generic Mario era, and people blamed that for the lack of unique toads, when it was already a downward spiral since Partners in Time.

I like that they somehow managed to make how sanitised many aspects of the Mario franchise became over the years and somehow turn it creepy. That's how it came across to me, at least.
