The show, although only on TV for two seasons and after on radio for decades, was brilliantly written and cast . . . . . . as it is the limited number of series’ episodes second only to ‘The Honeymooners’ “Classic 39”. PS Unfortunately the show still is not provided (allowed?) on any cable or satellite TV in NY.

I use the expression of John Henry who was the legendary BLACK man who died in the attempt to race a steamcar he hammered to move against a locomotive train at the dawn of their invention. John Hancock of Massachusetts was the white man who signed the Declaration of Independence largely and boldly ahead of the locomotive age. Oh yeah.😮

I don't think Amos 'N Andy were representative of black people anymore than The Three Stooges were representative of white people. I guess the problem was this show was the ONLY show on Tv back then with an all black cast. Blacks just weren't represented at all very much back then. All i know is funny is funny! And they were hilarious!

It's ironic 3 shows from the 50s when television was in it's infancy are among the funniest--The Honeymooners, I Love Lucy and Amos & Andy.

Didn’t know it was posted. I have my favorites too a TV station in our area showed them about 40 years ago - people complained - still! Different era now. The humor, not the color.

The episode starts off looking like it will be a rare one in which Kingfish doesn't try to bamboozle Andy... but of course he does.

This is great television, no cussing, no nudity, and no depravity. These actors were amazing. The chemistry amongst the cast was tight.
These folks were hilarious. To bad people can’t have an open mind about race. It’s a shame the show is no longer on TV. A national lose.

So many positive comments. I just wonder how actual people of African descent feel about the fact that the radio version of this show was voiced by two WHITE guys doing their best imitation of stereotypical Black people. They might just love it anyway. Or not. And is Blacks talking about the IRS funnier than Whites? And if so, why would that be?

So why would you think this racist when we had Laurel and Hardy? It was to make a person laugh. Nothing to do with the color of skin.

Well I agree to a point. I don’t know about kingfish being a role model or Andy being a role model, but I certainly never labeled them as typical Black people anymore than I labeled Ralph Kramden Or Ed Norton as typical white people. What I have done with both Amos and Andy and the honeymooners television show is related the incredibly funny humor to my own life. We all have a little Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton and Kingfish and Andy in us. I don’t think color has anything to do with the hilarious characters in either show.

Hi screwed up. This was in response to the comment that we should use these people as role models in our life. Lol. Hilarious comedy yes, role model. I don’t think so!

It was so sad when this show was canceled. It put a lot of great actors out of work. The NAACP pressured CBS to cancel the show because some of the characters were shown as negative stereotypes. It was comedy at its best! 💙
@kenbob1071 Жыл бұрын
It aired over radio and tv for over 20 years so hardly a surprise to see it finally get canceled. Today a show disparaging white people (or even a show accurately depicting white slave owners in a negative light) wouldn't even last 20 days before right-wingers like Gov. Meatball Ron would boycott it or ban it from being shown in schools.

This took place in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York because they showed Lenox Avenue in some of these 1950-1953 shows. When I had worked in the Brewerytown neighborhood of North Philadelphia ( North Killadelphia ), Pennsylvania, I told my supervisor that that neighborhood was similar to Harlem. She told me: I’ ve been to Harlem and I' ve been to Harlem. North Philadelphia is nothing like Harlem!😮

Role models? Dude has an exaggerated Black sounding voice. For you not to understand how this is offensive to Black people....sounds like how White people who support The Confederate Flag justify their position by saying it's about 'culture', not Slavery.
