I'm more curious about the narrative, especially considering the political context in the USA and the timing just before the election. I read the Wikipedia page about the author, Robert Harris, and watched one of his previous novel to movie adaptations, Ghost 2010. In both there're rather unsubstantiated (in their narratives) insinuations of essential malice or conspiracy; in Ghost it's about implying that the whole purpose of the CIA is malicious conspiracy rather than just the usual human mixture of mainly stupid evil, mediocrity, and occasional brilliance. In this one the insinuations are related to the centuries old conspiracy theories about the Catholic Church, rather than merely some organisations being suspicious- Opus Dei, Knights of Malta, Legionnaires of Christ.

That fact that these always hyperbolic first reasons are already mentioning problems is never a good sign

I don’t think the take away from Gladiator II’s BO run is going to be that it made "a ton of money". Breaking even is the best it can get. So this film is not going into the oscars because of a financial success story. These are first reactions. This is the most praise it’s going to get. It’s obviously a great action film, a better Ridley movie than his last efforts, but no one is going to pretend it’s better than the original. I think it has a chance of making the BP line up because there aren’t many blockbusters lining up this year apart from Dune, but I would put it in Tier 2. It will get a few tech noms and maybe a win or two, that’s it. Denzel might be it’s best chance in fact. Sounds like Wakanda Forever to me.

Is so hard to see u can't predict anything but. The end is so sad😢 but thinking 🤔 end way . Imagine they don't talk but only curiosity kills the cat.. and I feel so sad for the lovely seen when the cats have so many life's see their friends departing to another life or quantum history 🎉 wow I end up dying ye couldn't eat . ... And he saw the biggest fish....doe I can't eat mee t for a while 😢

This is the best movie of 2024 so far. Funny, emotional, not overly gross, great message. Adams deserves not only a nomination for this role, but a win.

Ralph Fiennes come get your Oscar

Conclave was good, not great. It was slow at times. I thought the ending overdid it. I also got the names confused and it took me awhile to figure out who was who. However, I like the general message of inclusion, calling out flawed people and Ralph Fiennes' performance. I think Fiennes will be nominated, not sure any other performances will.

Absurd to not consider Ariana considering her Oscar campaign is being shoved in our faces the past month and is playing an "easy" Oscar victory character performance that usually wins in supporting actress category.

My fingers are crossed for Demi Moore for her phenomenal performance in 'The Substance.' I would love to see the film receive multiple nominations. It probably won't happen cause its a body horror film, but no one thought 'The Exorcist' would ever get nominated. No one thought Ana de Armas would get nominated for 'Blonde' cause it was NC-17, but it happened. It might not happen for 'The Substance' and probably not for Demi Moore, but I still hope they'll get nominated.
