Great review. I really enjoyed this movie, unexpectedly. I feel like the part in the jungle was totally intrinsic and powerful. I coupd be wrong but i think that daniel craig is attracted to the male body sexually. The contours and tangible body. His quest was to connect with the mental and spiritual mind. Perhaps due to society's pressures, perhaps with the reflexive expectation of society to maintain a heteronormative dynamic. Or perhaps because he connects mentally and spiritually to a femenine spirit. And perhaps its both, just as life is rarely a simplistic thing and relationships are complex. Or perhaps he is unable to resolve exactly what other people truly think of him when hes sober. Not able to interact with people in a sober state. Anyway, just one straight persons opinion.

If you want to have a deeper understanding about the context, you can google "brazil dictatorship condor documents". Noam Chomsky mentioned them a couple of years back. In short, the US government was the architect of dictatorships in South America, including the one in Brazil.

This movie carries sensitivity, brutality and, at the same time, enormous beauty, as we see all the happiness of a home being abruptly destroyed by the violence of a dictatorship, and a mother having to be strong even though she is equally destroyed. It deserves to win for best movie, just as Fernanda Torres deserves the honor of best actress at the Oscars.

Fully supporting " I'm still here" and even more Fernanda Torres, she is brilliant and charismatic....

The Brazilian dictatorship has 100% everything to do with the United States and the Cold War against the Soviet Union. The dictatorship was set up in 1964 by the CIA in a Operation called Brother Sam and an aircraft carrier ( USS Forrestal) was even off the Brazilian coast when it was launched. The United States feared that the same thing would happen here as happened in Cuba. But Brazil, far from that, had a democratic government and a legitimately elected Congress. A somewhat crazy president named Jânio Quadros resigned, and his successor, João Goulart, was more focused on social causes, and this bothered the conservative sectors of Brazilian society. So the stage was set for a military coup, which was supposed to take 1 or 2 years but lasted for 21 years. The military took a liking to power and increased the level of repression in 1968 with Institutional Act number five.

The use of photos/pictures in the film was so beautiful and artistic. To me it was more of a movie with a strong message about families which brought back similarities with Shoplifters. Loved every bit of the movie, in my opinion there is nothing in the movie which I can point out as a flaw. Also watched Emilia perez, lowkey was a nice effort but it’s definitely has a lot of flaws, specially during its start and is nowhere near the same quality

Man, as a Brazilian, I left the theater with so many emotions at once. I was deeply saddened to learn about Eunice and Rubens for the first time, completely enraged by the fact that so many people today deny the existence of torture during that period (or try to justify it), and relieved that this complex chapter of our history was handled with such care. I don’t care if it doesn’t win in any category, but making sure people hear what I'm Still Here has to say-especially Brazilians and Americans-is essential. I think the Golden Globes and the Oscars are really helping in that regard.

I'm still here is the biggest failure winner. Nobody watched it, nobody wants to watch it, nobody cares about it. But ... anyway, it's is still important for the film industry because it matters a lot for political reasons since the left lost a lot in recent years and they want to keep pushing a narrative that no one else believes anymore, even in Fernanda's own nation. Brazil has political prisoners today, not 70 years ago. Fernanda and her mother are just propagandists of the party and they receive well to play that role.

A Fernanda Torres merece o Oscar e o filme também. A interpretação da Fernanda é brilhante e magistral. A gente sai do cinema emocionado.

I'm still here is not about Brazil, it's about our fears from stupid governments that take off our freedom. It was hypothesized by this movie and by gorgeous performance of Torres. Both deserve the prize.

Is it over? I hope so. Emilia Perez is lame to begin with. Zoe gave an acceptable performance for the script she got however, Ariana's performance was very superior. She gave depth to the character. I hope Critics choose wisely

It is interesting to know that the film is an adaptation of a book written by Eunice's son, who is a very sensitive writer. There are many connections between all the people involved in the production of this film. Very touching. Furthermore, this film is important in the current Brazilian context, in which many young people simply have no idea what the dictatorship was like and the disappearance of thousands of people during those years of oppression. Especially at a time when many, due to this lack of knowledge or hidden interests, have been calling for the return of the military regime. In fact, we recently had an attempted coup shortly after the inauguration of the current president, who was democratically elected. All of this, added to the undeniable beauty of the film and the performance of Fernanda Torres and other actors, makes the Oscar nominations very significant. This was already very important for many people to go see the film.
