It's great to see you actually yachting once more. However, I couldn't help but muse to myself when you said that your brother is looking for a yacht now. Yeah the yachting world for the most part have good people in it, always ready and able to help out a stranded fellow yachtie. I'm just a trailer sailer coastal yachtie with a lift up keel and rudder and it's situations yours here that make me steer clear of a keel boat, even though I've always wanted one, for me just poking around coast of Oz doesn't really require one. Looking good. Peculiar rudder shape. It looks like an after thought cut to fit in the space rather than designed for the yacht. I am sure that it's perfectly serviceable. In any case, she looks like a perfectly fine blue water cruiser. I love the hard dodger. The solar system looks like it might be inadequate? What do you think?
@johnmclachlan1023Ай бұрын
I doubt Ron Swanson ever designed a rudder as an afterthought.
@DawnraiderАй бұрын
I agree about dodger and dollar panels. Rudder definitely not an after thought.
@tonybodlovic5825Ай бұрын
I didn't mean to suggest that it was literally an after thought. Just that it's shape was curious to me. I was just doing a bit of work on a Swanson 32 today, at the boat yard and she also had a peculiar rudder (to me).

Very old aviation saying: "You're born with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience, you need to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck". Applies to a lot of things. So...what's the solution here? Ignore the charts/tables? Only at high tide?

OK like everyone else I am confused. On your last video you were in Gosford awaiting the outcome of the insurance claim which had been received by them as well as the surveyors report. Your now looking at a Martzcraft 35 and then went to Bundy to get all your gear. The only conclusion I can come to is that the old boat is an insurance write off and your looking at a new boat OR the insurance claim has been rejected and its to expensive to fix and cheaper to buy a new boat. Hopefully its option one.
@DawnraiderАй бұрын
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. The boat has been written off, but with that comes the option to buy her back for a nominal cost and then do any repairs myself. I was investigating that option, but decided that I would be better to cut my losses and more on to something new. As it turned out, when I talked to the shipwright, he said the damage was too severe to even consider making repairs. So, I will take the insurance money and start afresh.
@stevenfogerty2110Ай бұрын
I own a Martzcraft 35. Good boat. Not the fastest but great cabin, easy to sail.
@DawnraiderАй бұрын
I got a good impression of the type. As you say roomy living quarters. I loved the after cabin. How did you find the cockpit size? It’s a shame this one had been neglected on the hard for so long.
@stevenfogerty2110Ай бұрын
@Dawnraider I find the cockpit a bit small, yet I feel very safe. You can't stretch out and sucks on long passages. If I were to buy a centre cockpit again, the boat would need to be significantly longer. That being said, all lines come back to the cockpit, so I never have to leave to reef, etc. It's also a bit of a pain in the arse getting behind the wheel. This is the only negative and by and large the things I like out weight this.
@PatStentefordАй бұрын

@@Dawnraider hi . Cheers mate. I just read comment about the keel cracked? Where is it cracked? Is it on the hull join or seam? If its not the seam then I would imagine its not as bad as it could have been. Can you elaborate where its cracked. The keel its self cracking seems unusual to me but i am no expert. I would have thought the seem woukd be main issue but I am not sure exactly how that one is attached. My keel seam is directly on hull not on an small extension piece like some boats
@Dawnraider2 ай бұрын
Hey, yes I hear what you're saying. I you look at this video, around the 13:57 mark, the keel is shown. The crack, though not really visible, runs parallel with the bottom of the hull and it as about at the level of 5cms or so below the hull. Well, I guess it is part of the learning process, and boy did I learn a few things. Yes, the keel has a crack and will need to be removed to be repaired. The bolts will be inspected during that process no doubt. Thankfully they didn’t leak in the three and a half weeks I had to wait for the tow.
@Frazemac12 ай бұрын
@@Dawnraider Hi just saw your other reply on my email . Yeah I dont think the keel is that bad in my unprofessional opinion and totally repairable. But we will see . Doesn't appeae to be any real damage on the hull or hull seam which can be main issue with hard run aground and shen the whole keel can get pushed up into the bilge. This looks ok. I would be very surprised if they wrote that whole boat off. But I don't know obviously. But it looos positive to me. Flesh wound lol
@Dawnraider2 ай бұрын
@@Frazemac1 I hope you're right. I was told to do the keel they have to bring down the rigging too. The reason is, that the boat is subject to flipping over on the ground without the weight of the keel. I can see the $$$$$ mounting up.
@Frazemac12 ай бұрын
@ hey mate I'd question about taking the Rigging down just because he's dropping in the keel. I don't think that's right because of the boats properly secured. You should be able to do that without taking your Rigging down.
