Don't know where anyone gets the idea that Elvis couldn't act. The Elvis in the movies is clearly not the Elvis that was seen in concert between 1956-1958 & then again from 1968 with the Comeback Special 'stand up, sit down' portions and thereafter for the rest of his career until his death. Started watching Elvis movies back in the 1960's as a young girl & loved all of them but they are definitely not the same Elvis as Elvis in concert. During the 1960's a lot of movies were comedy/music shows; most of Elvis's were the same said & he played the roles in those movies fine so there's really no reason for all of the media criticism of them; they were no different than other 'beach party' type movies of the times...except for Elvis's superior vocals that is.

I was never a fan of his movies. I only recently started to watch some. Right now I have watched 59minutes of Speedway and so far I can understand why Elvis didn't like starring in them. His first acting one of Love Me Tender was superb. The other two, Kid Galahad and King Creole were also good acting. Too bad Tom Parker (I don't mention the title he gave himself. It's too disrespectul to any Colonel)wouldn't let Elvis choose his own films. But then again that would have changed history. I wonder what kind of life he would have had. Would he still be with Priscilla and his daughter and grandson would still be alive? Elvis would have been a happier man. He would have stopped the pills and women and not died so young.

I think if Elvis had spent less time with these idiots and more time with his band and other signers, he could composed songs himself. Jamming and singing gospel was a good way to unwind but he stifled the creativity in himself by performing to this set of morons. Fine, they were his friends but he spent enough time with James Brown & BB King, Bill Medley etc all of whom were fine lyricists and musicians to bounce ideas off.

I hear people constantly criticizing elvis because he didn't write his own songs. All i can say is look at his work record. From 1954-1977 He made 30 some movies and he recorded hundreds of songs. Not a star today could keep up with this pace.
