I work for a non profit that manages 3 low income housing properties. How do I set up QBO so I can have financials stmt that are separated by properties.

Makes perfect sense. One problem: QuickBooks Online Essentials doesn't offer Classes, so the only option is to use Tags OR to overload the Account group. The difficulty with that, is tags aren't shown once a transaction Category has been added, making that an opaque grouping. One can run reports, yes, but there's no guarantee that someone didn't omit to tag an item. What would you suggest in that case? A flat structure where everything is an Account? I'm not impressed with QB.

Love your videos! Question - if I"m listing the volunteer as the "vendor" on the reimbursement transaction, how can I accurately track what we've paid actual vendor, since that transaction won' t be tied to the actual vendor's name in QBO? A journal entry?

Love your videos. Question for you: why would you use an expense management tool like Brex or Divvy if you can go through your credit card statement online and if your credit card expenses can feed into your quickbooks?

Thank you for this video. We began using Quicken then went into Quickbooks Desktop now Quickbooks Online as of 2024. I switched thinking it would be better bc we have multiple users and we have been remote since 2020. The switch was not seamless. We have 4 bank accounts. Suggestion from rep was to get QB Online Plus for primary acct. and QB Simple Start for other accts. It appears we can only have 2 users for Plus subscription. The other subscription only 1 user. Yes, online has quirks. Now I rec’d call that Enterprise may be a better choice. We are a small to medium labor union. Any suggestions?

I am about to set up a COA for a new nonprofit that will have fiscal hosting as one of it's core programs. Would you recommend, in this case, building the fiscally hosted projects into the categories or classes? Or stick with tags? Would love a vid on this!

Super helpful video. I have not used QuickBooks in so long. I have been using Intacct and NetSuite for over a decade. I work in fiscal sponsorship and have a project becoming their own 501c3 moving to QuickBooks and forgot the features available class, location, project. Outside of GL. Was able to advise on this from the video as far as potential set up with their new entity.

Fiscal sponsorship tracking would be helpful

I am a bookkeeper for a non profit and when I first started with them I had no experience or training in the non profit sector. I’ve had to figure a lot of stuff out on my own, including cleanups due to a BADDDDD conversion from QBD to QBO, and have felt so so overwhelmed with it all. I’ve finally finished the cleanup after taking some courses from a tax auditor, and now I need to figure out how to manage the grants. It looks like the last person who managed the books had the COAset up with a lot of the “don’ts” on your list, and it is extraordinarily overwhelming to look at and try to figure out. I’m really thankful to have found you, and I hope that I can get things in order so that things work smoother for us.

Appreciated the intro to classes and the top level requirements. Well presented!!! Some screen shot/report examples would be great, but probably not worth your time to set up a demo db. Might be fun to do a "Life of an Event" type vid where accounts are created, transactions applied and end with the statement of activity by class.
