…I’m here at 59 knowing that Velvita is a bigger treat than a king sized Snickers Bar.

In many places, "traditional" corn pone is made w/ only cornmeal, bacon grease, water, & salt. With Dolly's recipe, the addition of milk & flour practically makes this cornbread (minus an egg). I have also seen "corn pone" recipes w/ the exact same ingredients as "cornbread". And let's not even bring up the Caribbean, where "pone" appears to be either a wet, moist, mushy corn cake OR a corn meal pudding (made w/ coconut milk). Guess "pone" means lots of different things in different places.

I grew up on these and cooked them myself. Like mom I used crackers and added pepperika. The bones were left in for the extra calcium.

The bones are small ans soft and have a lot of nutrients. Keeps the bones and just mash them up. No cormeal or flour, its more healthy without those

It's not that the bones are bad for you... but I don't want crunchy spinal bones in my patties, even if they are "crushed" up! Nope.

You cook like I do. Some people sautee their onions, vegetables, and garlic before soup but I don’t. I add in the water and then all the onions, garlic, vegetables too

My granny cooked navy beans with bacon almost every week. She soaked them and put them in a pot with water and bacon just like you did, but she didn’t add any salt. It was my favorite supper when I was a child, and I still enjoy it today.
