Question for ya. I had quite a few fish follow my lures to the boat this Dec at Pyramid, but would not bite. I have seen this with Rainbow Trout too. I use Marabou Jigs when nothing else working to get the rainbows to bite. I see you using marabou jigs too at Pyramid on a spinning rod (same style of rod I using too). I have the stuff to tie them up. But I can't find a ball head with a strong enough hook (like x1 or x2 hook that is laser sharp). Can you share the brand and where you get them ball heads you tie up yourself?
@BlakeMarshall-PiscesOutdoorsКүн бұрын
The ones I use the most are Wapsi brand, but there are others with much more detailed heads. I just buy a blank lead jig and paint the heads myself. And I may have found the wapsi product on FishUSA, knot 100% about that. Best of luck

What speed were you trolling at?
@BlakeMarshallPiscesOutdoors2 ай бұрын
There will be different speeds for different lures and certain times to focus on slower or faster presentations. The Lymans and Spoons run best at faster speeds 2.5-3.5mph. Flat fish, slow troll apex, articulated flies work better at slow speeds 1-2 mph and become the effective technique when the temps drop and fish slow down in the swallows. Also vary your speed, run fast and drop out, speed back up, that stop and go drives strikes. Best of luck!

Nice! im from Hawthorne, NV this reminds me of Walker Lake 20 yrs ago before the droughts & farmers took all the water, now the Chub can barely survive with all the alkali & the cutthroat dont have a chance so they wont put any lahontan cutthroat back in the lake again until the water level is raisd high enuff to get the PPM'S lowered to sustain the trout which will probably be NEVER or atleast not in my lifetime! well enuff boo hooin, but ill be on the water at Pyramid for the next 3 days starting 2morrow so i hope the fish are biting🤞👍

Are they all hatchery or is there some natural reproduction in the truckee? Still never seen a lahontan in the truckee but ive heard rumors there's a few in there
@BlakeMarshallPiscesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That is a great question, I do not have all the details on that situation, and I assume it will forever be changing. There are up river plants going on, plus all the upper lakes receiving them. Difficult to know where the fish can all make it to with the difficult agricultural boundaries.
@mainlyfishing459911 ай бұрын
They spawn at the hatchery spillway at the lake…. Few years ago I found a dead 20+ cutthroat near downtown Reno. They definitely make it all the way into town. I’ll post a pic of it on my instagram..

Nice video and good knowledge. I’ve fished Kokanee for many years and 1.3mph always seems to be the optimum speed. Kokanee are a very finicky fish. They can be picky or hit anything and everything. Trolling zigzag pattern can show the best speed and a constant barometric pressure is needed as well.

glad you enjoyed. There are still some huge fish in the system, but I only find them when they travel up stream to spawn. The water up there is so clear and cold, I view it as the kindergarten or rearing grounds. Lots of little juvenile trout.

Nice video, but I tend to be most productive with spoons from Sierra Lure. Bleeding Frog in several colors. White or Green seem to be the most productive. White when it's stormy. 7/8 ounce is the best size for shore fishing.
@BlakeMarshallPiscesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Most people are aware of spoons, they are effective, and most fishermen are well informed for spoon fishing. I just wanted to show a few other tactics that are also incredibly effective. The Jig bite is my favorite, I like the way you can reely slow down the presentation when the fish are lethargic and fish a more sensitive rod. Good luck to you this season!

@BlakeMarshallPiscesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Awesome, I hope you crush the kokes. I don't know fish lake personally, but look for structure, identify the inlets and the spawning grounds, as we near the spawning season, fish should move toward these areas, and start to stack up. I also always search current lines. Salmon love cold fresh water sources nearby. Use your electronic to find and mark the school, and hammer down. Fish will be at their highest part of the water column early in the morning and descend deeper as the sun comes up, typically. Fresh corn - fresh scent, best of luck!
@reganbrown1339 Жыл бұрын
Hey man, great video, im going to stampede for the first time on September 7th, do you think the kokes will all be transitioned by then?
@BlakeMarshallPiscesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Most of this year's adult fish will be into the metamorphosis stage, there will still be bright chrome smaller fish that will become next years adults. The trout seem to get going better at that time too, and there may still be a good small mouth bass bite. Good luck, I hope the trip is a big success for you!
