Can you still buy horns I’m working on a project like this one
@justmike57
@justmike57 23 сағат бұрын
To tell you the truth, I never knew you could buy the horns for this clock. As far as I know, you would have someone carve them for you or by chance, you might find them on E-Bay that someone took a clock apart and just selling the parts. Good Luck.

This was a very interesting and inspiring video to watch. You did a great job restoring the case. Yeah, maybe the finial at top center could be larger as you said but what you have looks pretty good. The next row of finials down where you have four and one is missing I think looks fine just the way it is. Great job replacing the molding at the top and staining it to match. The way the glass is installed with wood pegs holding it in I haven't seen before - something to file away in the back of my mind. Thanks for sharing.

I found an old, taller finial, but still not tall enough for my liking. Still on the search. I also agree with you on the center, smaller finial. Unless I find one, I am good with the looks of the topper. Thanks so much for the great comment and watching the video Paul Dyck. God Bless and have a great day.

The bugs are I believe powderpost beetles. The larva tunnel in the wood, and the round spots are where they left as adults. They mate and lay eggs in the tunnels, and the cycle continues. They like unfinished wood, so maybe this is why we started varnish and shellac use. I enjoyed watching you do your woodworking magic. Very nice job. Thanks for the shout out. Beautiful clock!

I'm happy this clock is old enough that I don't have to worry about the eggs hatching. Sad the clock got eaten up, but it does add character to the clock now. It is magic when you have wood working tools that most people don't have now a days. The craft is dyeing. Thanks so much for watching and you two and the dogs have a great week. God Bless.

I am already a subscriber to your brothers channel. Those bugs ate and ate until they couldnt eat anymore. LOL. You did a good job on this missing leaves. Are you trying to drill through your leg. LOL. Thanks for the verbal shout outs also. As always you did a great job on repairing this clock. Love it. Being that this is a Gustav Becker clock you should change the title to reflect that. Love the Gustav Becker clocks. Very well made. Thanks for the shout out again at the end and the links to Cheryl and my channels but you forgot to have your brothers link at the end. Great job again. Fantastic shipping! I love that pendulum. You got a nice bunch of parts. I'm glad someone saved them instead of throwing them away. I think the worm holes add a nice character to the wood, as long as they didn't destroy the integrity of the wood. Nice hands and dial. A very beautiful piece. I started singing when you spelled out G-L-O-R-I-A! Have you ever heard that song? Nice heavy movement. What were you thinking about using on the face? No scratches on it. Very nice. Very old suspension spring. That cool pendulum design kept it from torquing and breaking. Can't wait to see the woodwork. Great video. That movement is gorgeous. What were the two different pins for on the top two wheels? Thanks for sharing and the end promo!
@justmike57
@justmike57 5 күн бұрын
I was thinking of using the Dawn Dish soap, but then did nothing to the dial because of the Value of the clock. If I had of known how you cleaned your gilt brass color, I would have done the same here. Just the same, I am happy with this clock and looks way better than it did when I first saw the clock. (Besides the worm damage, after refinishing the case, the dust Still comes out of the holes if you tap it, lol.

Also, if you didn't like his style of videos, there are others that have clock channels that you might learn from as well, but many be not as detailed. @justmike57
@justmike57 11 күн бұрын
All these fans were never meant to get into. There are so many hidden spots for screws or after the screws are out, there will be snaps you have to pop. The way I learned was just figure the fan is junk and if you break it, there would be no loss. So try to force it open slowly while trying to look inside to see if there is another screw or clip of some kind.

Normally, when the clock hasn't been oiled for 5 to 7 years, the oil will start to gum up and start causing a friction that will slow and stop the clock. Maybe remove the movement and take pictures before you start, then oil both the front and back of the clock and hope for the best. It would be a good thing to have a can of air to blow out the movement to help rid all the dust that might be in the clock as well.

I have a Seth Thomas watch-striking clock from the 1950s. It still keeps good time - better than 30 seconds a week and chimes beautifully. It took me six years but I finally got the matching Seth Thomas Barometer. The brass is slightly redder on the Barometer but nothing you would notice from a quick look. They look perfect against the teak bulkhead.

@justmike57
@justmike57 15 күн бұрын
I am not that sure it's a huge risk. I was using the white ones, but when they get older, they can't always handle the pressure. This is why I say to use the black ones, because I haven't had one fail yet. You can tell when you first let them down if they are going to hold well. Also, most people that watch my video's, only have one or two clocks they want to get running again. Buying special tools to do the job isn't what they want to do for the price of the tool, then throw them away. I do have the rings, but maybe not the bigger ones and would like to show people that maybe they can work on their own clock with things around the house.

Plates and pendulum came out really well with the Mothers. Your time side didnt have the spring to hold the click to start with. LOL. Good thing that you ordered a new one. I am not 100% certain that the time side main spring goes where you put it. I think that it should go like the strike side and that post that you put it on prevents it from coming out too far. It is working so I would leave it. Looks and sounds great. You did great for $10. It fed your antique/clock bug for a little bit. LOL. Purchasing new springs is part of the game. They will last for another 50 plus years. Hopefully so it is money well spent. Another great job at repairing this clock. Thanks for the shout out. May God bless you and yours.

Maybe you did it off camera but new springs, even though they look nice and fresh should be cleaned first. Many of them will have a protective coating on them to prevent rust. Welch clocks were made up until 1902 when they were bought out by the Sessions Clock Company. 😁
