Chassis weight reduction is less efficient than unsprung weight reduction. Every 1lb of unsprung weight dropped is equivalent to 4-5lbs of chassis weight. Just dropping 10lbs each corner of wheel weight can be the equivalent of dropping 115-130lbs total of chassis weight. And that will free up HP not being sucked to just turn the wheels, but it will make the handling more responsive so its one of the most efficient ways to go faster in general. Some of the easiest ways to further reduce sprung or chassis weight is exhaust. Just removing resonators, moving to a lighter weight tubing and mufflers, and if desired removing cats, can save several dozen lbs. And while it doesnt effect overall curb weight as much, lightening rotational mass across the motor with lightweight flywheels, underdrive pulleys, and lightweight 1pc driveshafts will reduce mechanichal loss of power between the crank and wheels, significantly improving power/weight ratios. From that point, unless your building a dedicated track car, the gains youll see from stripping weight from interior panels and accessories starts getting into significant diminishing returns as you lose a lot of comfort. Rear seat delete and lighter weight racing seats in front would be about as far as a street car would need. As far as power the best mods are intake, throttle body, manifold (preferably ported), previously mentioned pulleys, cams, long tube headers, free flowing exhaust, and a tune. Certainly FI is a huge bump in power but the main thing people are finally coming around to again is whether its worth chasing a high WHP number if you cant realistically use that power. The Demon Redeye has that problem. Keiichi Tsuchiya took one out onto a track and the drift king himself couldnt use the car fully because it simply made more power than it needs. With the S197 and S550, the best option really is to maximize stock potential through bolt ons and tuning, making good choices in reducing HP loss between the crank and wheels, and then going hard on suspension. You will have a much faster car with 450-500whp that has a well thought out and executed suspension build than a 700whp car with bare minimum upgrades to suspension. Remember, the S197 and later Mustangs are TRUE sports cars, not just muscle cars. Live rear or IRS, they are designed to be DRIVERS cars not just drag cars like muscle cars in the past (SN95 was a 30yr old chassis). So when modifying them its smart to look at the ways that people make vehicles like Nissans, Hondas, and Toyotas go fast, which often times is finding the balance between power and handling cuz those imports proved on tracks time and again that even with lower HP numbers, if you can deliver that power efficiently and carry that speed through a corner, youre gonna be faster than someone with twice the power and less stability. Now if youre building a drag car, absolutely drop all the weight, make all the HP, and focus on getting out of the trap asap. But if youre driving your car on the street, balance will end up in more smiles per gallon than a dyno graph. Power doesnt always mean speed and speed is what gives the fizz.

That was a great review! I remember watching your videos when I was waiting for mine (looks similar to yours) and now I'm almost to one year of having it and its been amazing. Same negatives as far as expense, gas, etc but I knew that coming in and its my dream car so its worth it. I've driven it 24k miles now. I plan to ease up lol but memories have been worth it all.

I had this same exact issue with my bronco! I ended up taking the RTT off and the noise went away. Wondering if those brackets you used would have fixed my issue while still keeping the tent on the bronco. For reference, I have the trailrax rack and a RTT that weighs about ~160lbs.

Id also add how cheap the plastic is in the interior. If you just breathe on it, it scratches. I know its an off road vehicle, but its still annoying.

I really wanted to buy one in 2022 until I drove it. At regular road speed the ride was so uncomfortable and there was so much road noise that I knew I couldn't live with it as my main vehicle and wasn't looking for a secondary vehicle. I get what they did with the doors so they can fit inside the back of the 4 door version but since there's no proper seal for the doors to slide into it really causes a lot of wind noise.

Great vid, I have the BMR lowering springs on the rear of my 12 GT, now need to purchase and install the BMR springs for the front and will also be purchasing the MM caster/camber plates as well. I'll probably have to get a local shop to install the springs as I don't want to attempt to do this job on my own but am afraid the labor charge will be hefty. Also do you have a Frenchie? Couldn't help but notice your shirt. I have one (a Brindle), his name is "Hank"
