Invest in a 50 gallon auxiliary fuel tank. Adding maybe about 300 to 400lbs of weight. Less stops at the fuel station.

Always tarp back to front. This way your tarps dont catch the wind going down the road. If you have 2 tarps, always put the rear tarp on first then overlap the front tarp on top of that rear tarp.

Freedom vs finance imo Noncdl you can work when you want, cdl you're on the companies time and unfortunately some places will have you stranded and waiting for the next load Bit more stability but you're also stuck..id rather make a dime my way then a dollar someone elses..and hey if there's nothing for 2-3 days you can cat off and go play the slots or catch a baseball game rather than babysitting the truck and getting dinged by DOT, randos and all the other nonsense working for a company and having to maintain compliance with everything In the end I feel like it breaks even but on paper cdl probably makes more, I'd choose freedom tho and being able to clock out whenever if ppl are being goofy or there's nothing going on

I drive hotshot for another company out of West GA. Containers are definitely hard on the truck. I drive an '18 Ram 2500, similar to yours. I wouldn't want to use anything else, but the best thing you can do to these trucks is delete them. You're eliminating most of their problems when you do that. Really, that goes for any modern diesel truck. Just remember the DOT is not the EPA... just stay out of California if you do that. You're a lot like me though, I don't want anything "too" far from home or too heavy.

Congrats on getting into the industry and keep it going. One question I do have for you is, my wife and I are looking into getting into hotshot (team driving) and later semi driving. We both are currently working with good jobs but we want to get into being our own boss. We’ve applied for our authority and in the protest period right now but long story short, I want to get into the industry and get going but she wants to wait because she’s unsure of the industry. I don’t doubt her but I wanted to know from you your experience since you’re a couple months in, what your experience is with it? Not knowing our whole backstory would you and your wife currently drop everything and start in the industry financially and rely on just it? Thanks for the advice.

@@corntv1107 we both currently have full time jobs, that we both want to leave, and a small savings account and she’s concerned that if we both quit our jobs then we won’t be able to pay our bills. She has heard the horror stories of trucking in the past, not getting paid or not getting the loads we booked, from friends and is concerned that we will have those issues and not be able to pay our business bills along with personal bills. I appreciate her concerns and concerned about it also but just trying to get accurate information about the industry.
@markkraha40452 ай бұрын
@@corntv1107First off I respect and appreciate my wife’s input on things because I can be very spontaneous and she can see sides I don’t and pull back the reigns on me. With that being said, I’m asking you because you are new to the industry and there are people on KZbin that you can’t exactly trust their results. The concerns that my wife has is purely financial. She has insight of the trucking industry from her past and knows stories of loads being “stolen”, go to pick up a load and find out that someone else has taken it or pay just isn’t that great. She’s mainly just worried that we won’t be able to pay our bills. We both currently have good full time jobs that we both hate and would love to be our own boss but she doesn’t want to make the jump and go severely into debt from it.
