Just wondering, did you use mostly soft synths to make this more accessible to a wider audience? After following Guy J's music for a bit, I'm guessing a lot of his synth sounds would come from analog gear. The benefit to using soft synths like you've shown is having a bit more control over the sound, but hardware can be more fun for experimentation (for me). Just curious, I don't see one method as being superior to the other, but Guy J's music is so complex that is has me wondering if he has much of a method for choosing which synths to perform certain sounds. Thanks for an awesome video!

Thanks for the interesting lessons. I really want to learn how to compose progressive house correctly. In my opinion, everything is OK with the camera position. I don't understand why I have to apologize for this several times.

Great video! I would love to know what Matter's tips were for the drums??
@Dowden_Official24 күн бұрын
Thanks! The tips I shown, just the construction of the shakers in general were basically what I meant. He just showed me that using loops and making multiple layers of shakers was helpful.

did you switch to progressive house because of how hard it is to make it in organic house & and songs require more effort to produce on the top level with very minimum returns ? + more money in progressive
@Dowden_Official25 күн бұрын
Quite the opposite, haha. I love Progressive, it is my passion. Definitely one of the lower paying genres, unfortunately. It is completely driven by passion. :)

As one of the original late 90s, early 2000s Toronto progressive house DJs, we used to have a really solid prog house scene that culminated around Breathe Fridays at System Soundbar. Breathe was a world renowned weekly night that was devoted to the sound. We had almost everyone from that era of the genre come through over Breathe's five year run. It's sad that things in Toronto have never been able to build back up to that level.

Interesting that you were into metal and got into house from that as my background is similar. I was into metal and punk in my teens before discovering house in the early 90's. I agree on how bands like Metallica used to blend slow acoustic melodies before rocking out which does have similarities in progressive house. You are definitely one of my favourite producers right now so keep up the good work!

Do you start a track like this from a 8 or a 16 bar loop? With progressive tracks, there are so many ever evolving elements that come and go and I find it hard to make it not sound loop'y. Would it be better if I did the drums first and then crafted some melodies and one shots on top of them once the drums have been arranged roughly?
