Personally, I'd say it should have stopped after 4, given what we got. The closest that Artemis and Holly should have been was as found family siblings. Shipping them is just weird and wrong. Some of the lines the Artemis Fowl Series and the Supernaturalist make me think Colfer needs some pointers on how technology and modern firearms work. Edti: there was already precedent before this movie of digital only content getting deplatformed. And it has happened since. For all this movie's many sins, it is not alone to blame for that problem. Edit2: That premise for continuing the series doesn't interest me. In fact, I would be inclined to avoid such a release. Over the course of the books, Artemis STARTED as the villain, but eventually became a hero. Having him be corrupted by power regresses him by undoing that progress, and again, him being in a romance with Holly is a bad idea.

"James Bond worthy gadgets" is arguably underselling the tech level of standard issue LEP-recon gear. And it's not really the right vibe. Bond Gadgets are designed to conceal weapons and tools, mostly tools or niche weapons. What Holly is issued with is just straight up tactical gear. It doesn't hide its purpose. It's up to the operator's Shimmer or the transport's stealth tech.

My definition of goth: a post punk, music-borne subculture that focuses heavily on the colour black, pale makeup, black clothing, heavy black boots, chains, piercings, tattoos, etc (although one does not need to have or wear these all the time, or even at all, to be goth) and on the dark and macabre, such as death and death-related imagery and activities, horror movies and programmes, vampires, Halloween, graveyards, the movies of Tim Burton, spookiness in general, the Addams family, the deceased, ghosts, skeletons and skulls, as well as other supernaturals and even animals like bats, wolves, spiders, ravens, crows, etc.

If they're doing a big budget reboot I hope they do a good job with it, the original story is such a good and surprisingly touching one. I do like this book series [it's even been inspiration for me], and I love The Black Cauldron. But the Prydain fans constantly bashing on The Black Cauldron movie while either ignoring or bashing the good parts has slightly soured my opinion of the books. I also didn't quite care for the book versions of Dallben and Eilonwy. Dallben just felt cold [he and Coll didn't even bother to search for Taran during The Book Of Three and Taran Wanderer, and the titular Book of Three is not an excuse], and while I admit Taran did deserve some [key word: some] of her comments in the books, Eilonwy often went too far IMO and I feel like she and Taran should have stayed just friends. And I really despise the ending: where 99.9% of the cast leaves, and magic leaves Prydain. It feels very anti-magic and very much against the fun spirit of typical fiction books. At least with Lord Of The Rings, some of the magic stayed, even if the cast left. Also, am I the only one who thinks the books are very mean-spirited towards Taran? I get he is reckless and makes mistakes, but I think sometimes the stories get really harsh and cruel.

Reality of it is thats a %99.9 chance it will NOT BE i mean look at games that have been rebooted for the longest time and all of them dont feel like its predecessor. I had to accept this. After what i saw with the new one i dont know if i play it like i do the last two games But im willing to try it out and see what it feels like and plays like. The only game that feels like this is Goldeneye Re release on Xbox thats the only game thats similar its not an opinion its a fact. I feel like the Lost Colony had a good starting point for the series, as well as being pretty underrated, the idea behind the demons and imp warlocks were really cool, and in my opinion all the new characters in it were very likable. But the end of the book, everything was different. Artemis had magic, the LEP had a new commander, Artemis has a female friend/future relationshop it basically could've been a new start. But then Artemis loses magic pretty soon in the next book, and it overall was disapointing afterwards. Though I think the last book was pretty decent (I wish the ghosts possessed cooler things) and satisfying end, and some elements of the books after the Lost Colony, like the time travel and I will always love the idea behind Orion.

What a brilliant set of books, what an imaginative take on fantasy and story, Ursula Le Guin has opened my mind to many different ways a story can be; I've since gobbled up any book of hers I can find (most recently, Lathe of Heaven). On the Ghibli side of things, word on the street is Hayao Miyazaki was a HUGE fan c. 1980's and the series has been a huge influence for him; if you ask me, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind feels like it gets Earthsea more than the actual Ghibli Earthsea did.

In general, I'm hearing the same thing I learned from Fullmetal Alchemist: it had a lady author, Arakawa Hiromu, and women authors write differently than men authors. That's it! If I had to try and put it to words, I've found that women authors have a kind of gentleness in their stories, and it's like they don't even have to try hard to write characters. Granted, my sample size is Le Guin, Arakawa, and Lois McMasters Bujold (Miles Vorkosigan sci-fi novels), and maybe Rowling...Jane Austen too, now that I think of it, when I was reading the text wall at the 22:00 minute mark. [Edit: we have Twilight and trashy romance novels that contaminate the sample size, so I want to say 'the high-caliber women authors' show the above similarities.]
@exitsexamined
@exitsexamined 5 күн бұрын
Hey! I hear you! But my guess is that woman authors, just like men authors all write different depending on their background, generation, beliefs, demographics etc. Earthsea has a good amount of aspects that make it unique from other fantasy. Actually this comment has me thinking the same thing I did when doing my video for Eragon - makes you think how the series would critiqued differently if the the books were released anomalously, so much of how we perceive them is based on our opinions of the authors, myself included haha. I *adore* the Earthsea (first) trilogy + _Tehanu._ Book four is where I stopped; as the video says, that seemed like the end. But now I've been persuaded to at least read _The Other Wind._ I think people who were upset by Ged's loss of power in _Tehanu_ were not paying attention to what Le Guin was telling them all along in the first trilogy. Ged is not the main character of a power fantasy. If he's an aspirational figure at all, it's not for fantasy reasons but reality reasons. He struggles, stumbles, fails, and grows up―not as a wizard but as a human being. His status as archmage in book three is symbolic (in Jungian or mythological fashion, if you like) of a man in the prime of his life, at the height of his physical and social power. Then he grows into old age. His powers decline, but they're replaced by other powers. It's natural and not undesirable. Last note: Part of the difficulty of adapting Earthsea to visual media may be that Le Guin often "violates" the truism "Show, Don't Tell". Actually, telling is sometimes the best way to convey information. Sorry if that comes as a surprise to anyone. (This is possibly why the first four books of Earthsea pack more punch into fewer pages than some single entries in some long-winded writers' series.)
@exitsexamined

I think Tales and The Other Wind are 100% at least worth checking out if you've gotten to Tehanu! It somehow feels like a proper end even though somehow Tehanu also felt like an end haha and if nothing else it's more Earthsea! It is interesting how some people were so upset by Tehanu, but on the other hand it's kind of surprising that even after all this time this is still such fresh ground for fantasy as a whole. I haven't checked out that much modern recent fantasy to be fair, but I've never seen another fantasy series that deals with heros after they lose their power. in their old age, and settling down and coming to terms with it. Agree it would take a very special team to be able to translate Earthsea into visual media, but I think actually a graphic novel might be interesting to see actually

The fact that he was also 12 but he was also this insanely intelligent yet cunning criminal mastermind, was so fascinating to me! And the fairy folk too! I love how we had descriptions for each category. I remember the versions of the book that I got, they had some sketches made by the artist at the back (but none of them really showed Arty or Butlers face because it was supposed to be an interview type thing...Arty lets Eoin Colfer write a book about his adventures and commisions an artist to do the illustrations at the back upon the agreement that his face was never to be shown! How cool was that!!) And the graphic novels were so beautifully illustrated, I remember absolutely devouring them when they came out. I was so obsessed with the series It kind of inspired me to make art (im a digital artist now) and write fanfictions for my friend's to read. One of them was a crossover woth the Young Justice team (also another one of my hyperfixations at the time), where Butler drops Arty off with the team and Artemis makes fun of Arty for having a female name (HER NAME) haha and Arty hits it off with Dick Grayson :) It was weird but I was 13!! To be honest, I don't like the fact they used the "Baldur's Gate" as the title for the third game - it's not a continuation, so tacking a new number to it seems pointless and forced. And there's a lot of games that take place in Forgotten Reams, so just the fact it's the same world does not justify it. They could do much better byt not riding the nostalgia train, and coming up with a new title, to open up possible new line of games. Of course, given that Larian now doesn't really want to make the BG4 (and pay royalties to the ever-hungry soulless corpo that Hasbro is) it would be a moot point anyway.

I see this argument come up and with how BG3 doesn't really "feel" like a BG game and honestly, I can see it. If BG3 was shipped as Divinity 3 I think it just might have done just as well. It will be interesting to see where the BG games go in the future, i just wish we had modern games exploring other settings from DnD, Planescape for example would be awesome
