Hey thanks so much for the comment! BGII was my favorite and I probably love to play with your same bhaalspwan portrait and modded game. Also thanks so much for the Patreon too! (I hope that was you haha) There will be credits listing all my Patreons starting in my videos from next week!

bioware killed it but black isle werent too bad themselves while being really good at the smaller world interactions (probably even better) in fallout (still need to get to planescape). i wouldve loved to see a game in faerun from them

Same with Fallout VB I think alot of people would love to see it, so interesting how both IP's could have taken really different turns. We may actually get to see their version at some point though, I think the game is mostly completed and does exist just in a vault somewhere. Maybe they'll leak it in 20 years or something haha

@@exitsexamined interplay in that time is just depressing to think about. so many of black isles coolest ideas scrapped after a ton of effort. obsidian is fine with eora, but itd be cool to see them retool the ideas the same way VB's hoover dam conflict got resurrected in new vegas. i love larians character focus, especially since they picked up such a strong writer for bg3 over dos2, but obsidian are still hard to beat all these years later when it comes to world interaction.

Would have loved to have seen the planned trilogy but may not have got the baldur's gate 3 that we did and that would suck

Definitely would have been interesting to see, but I think the OG game is locked up somewhere , so who knows it might leak sometime in the future at least

I wish Black Isle had been able to make this game. It might have prevented Wizards from ruining the lore from the first two games. Wizards and TSR never really cared about the Baldur's Gate game. When the first game was being made, TSR didn't bother to promote it much or make much supplemental material. When the novelization of the game was being worked on, TSR didn't even bother to give the author a copy of the game's script. The novelization was written based on an alpha version of the game and it had all sorts of contradictions, missing plotlines, and incorrect characterization. But despite those problems, the novelization was still made canon. Wizards went back to BG to mine for material but they didn't know what they were doing and did a bunch of dumb stuff like bringing Irenicus and Bodhi back, having Bodhi turn Imoen into a vampire, and ignoring a ton of the story and lore established in the games to bring back characters in ways thay made no sense.

A minor nitpick: TSR as it was, was already effectively dead by that point - BG1 didn't release until December '98. They'd been sold to WOTC in 1997, and WOTC was too busy working on 3rd ed, which released in 2000.

We waited 20 years to have the sequel to Divinity disguised as a Balgur's Gate. This will always be one of the top disappointment in my life.

Honestly, I think that is a fair take. It's definitely got a much different feel to the earlier titles

As a fan of Divinity and D&D and having never played the other BG games…I don’t care. The result is the best video game adaptation of D&D we’ve ever seen, and it makes sense the Divinity is what got Larian the job, because it was a damn fine game

IWD2 and this speculated BG3 has some common areas maybe? Some of the concept arts are strikingly familiar.

I remember playing BG1 as a kid, and having to switch disks sometimes when going between areas of the map, lol! I never finished it then, and had some trouble with the remastered version on steam (technically it ran very well, I just kept dying in the first fight because I'm terrible), but I knew I wanted to finish that before I played BG3. I'm very glad I did. I'm curious what Black Dogs may have become given the chance, but I like what we got instead.
@exitsexamined

haha I don't think you were alone in not finishing it! It was a tough game as a kid and even now. It 100% doesn't hold your hand, glad you finished it though! Did you ever get around to 2? I think that one is really where things start to shine

@@exitsexamined yes, Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal. I think all in all I liked 1 the best, because while time does advance and you have to worry about your iron weapons breaking up to a certain point, you could adventure at your own pace. I liked just wandering around seeing what trouble I could get into and finding weird things in the world. 2 had a lot going for it. The backgrounds were gorgeous, the main villain was terrifying yet enthralling to listen to, and you really got to let loose with powerful spells, items, and HLAs. But while you're not experiencing a mechanical consequence for taking your time, the thought that every minute I spent bumbling across the countryside was another minute *SPOILERS* was stuck in jail probably being tortured spoiled the fun. Idk if it's really a problem, but time constraints like that bug me. 3 kind of has that problem too with the tadpoles, I try to squeeze absolutely everything I can do into each long rest so I have about 2k uneaten camp supplies, because every day I don't know if I'm going to wake up with tentacles or not. I'm having a hard time thinking of any rpg that doesn't put a (usually mostly artificial, but still) time pressure on you. Is wanting to explore not enough motivation?

@@flibbernodgets7018 its rough it happens in chapter 2, the best time for you to explore and get to know amn before you decide to push on with the main quest. granted you can save said person and do that after, but once youre already in the questing loop its hard to stop to save them. my thing with the tadpoles is how they force everyone together. i get they did that to facilitate playing origin characters, but for how few new interactions you get for playing an origin, i wouldve preferred custom char only and more organically meeting and getting to know these companions over, "your tadpoles connect and you instantly know each other enough to work together".
@flibbernodgets7018

@@-nomi.- having a shortcut to get a bunch of weirdos that don't know each other to work together just seems like a holdover from the tabletop, and so it doesn't bother me much. You could definitely argue BG1 did a better job including companions in a reasonable way, but there's like 20 of them and they are about as deep as a sheet of paper, they kinda have to grab your attention immediately or you're gonna pass them by.

WE NEED TO MOVE OUR COLECTIVE IMAGINATION TO FAERUN AND OTHER D&D SETTINGS. p.s. And to urgently develop ~15 games set in them with stories that are at least good as BG series. That would avoid the WW3 at this moment.

To be honest, I don't like the fact they used the "Baldur's Gate" as the title for the third game - it's not a continuation, so tacking a new number to it seems pointless and forced. And there's a lot of games that take place in Forgotten Reams, so just the fact it's the same world does not justify it. They could do much better byt not riding the nostalgia train, and coming up with a new title, to open up possible new line of games. Of course, given that Larian now doesn't really want to make the BG4 (and pay royalties to the ever-hungry soulless corpo that Hasbro is) it would be a moot point anyway.

I see this argument come up and with how BG3 doesn't really "feel" like a BG game and honestly, I can see it. If BG3 was shipped as Divinity 3 I think it just might have done just as well. It will be interesting to see where the BG games go in the future, i just wish we had modern games exploring other settings from DnD, Planescape for example would be awesome

Yeah Triangle City is an excellent creator, I watched that video and goes into alot of great details and quotes from the dev itself about the game. I tried to focus more on The Black Hounds place in the timeline of BG3 but for people interested Triangle goes into much more depth about the game itself
