Thank you for the great videos, as always!!! Looking to retire in 2025 and one of the shocking things to me is the large deductibles and MOOP with ACA vs employer provided insurance. My deductible is $3,00 and MOOP is $4,200 with employer. Am I missing something or do people really shell that type of cash out if expensive medical treatment is needed? Just WOW!
@iHealthBrokers3 күн бұрын
There is definitely some major shell shock when switching from employer group health insurance to ACA plans! That being said, many, many basic services are covered prior to meeting your deductible. If your income is considered low enough during retirement, you may be able to qualify for a large enough premium tax credit to make one of the higher premium/lower deductible & MOOP plans more feasible. But still, yes, the plans do have higher out of pocket costs than what you have had in the past! Thank you for your comment!

While probably unintentional, this video is rather misleading. HSA's are not "use it or lose it" accounts. Balances can be carried in HSA accounts indefinitely. In fact, even after you're no longer eligible to contribute to your HSA, generally when you turn 65, you can still keep and use the money in your HSA.

Cobra was beyond ridiculous expensive when I retired 3 months ago. When your health insurance premium becomes more expensive than a mortgage payment, you step back and ask yourself what the hell am I doing here? I am convinced the American “healthcare” system is a total scam. We are looking at options, including leaving the country. My wife and I are both healthy and have no risky habits. We will probably wind up with an international plan through Travelers. The one caveat of course is it doesn’t cover the United States. I wonder why? 🤔🤓

Dental insurance is not needed. Most dentist will offer a non-insurance rate for basic dental care. If you have major dental work, you are pre-paying for it through monthly premiums and you have to a wait a year to use it. I plan to go to Mexico for my major dental work. Its safer than you think and definitely cheaper.

I am turning 65 in 3 months (March 2025), I plan on only signing up for Medicare Part A. Am I making a mistake by doing this? I am single and I eat and drink clean and stay at a healthy weight. I have a good income from ETF's, so I could afford to add the extra plans, but I feel that I can pay for anything that comes up out of pocket, so why should I bother. Thanks in advance if you reply.
@iHealthBrokers15 күн бұрын
Please do not do that. Medicare Part B is basically any time you see a doctor. So, Medicare Part A is almost useless without it. Also, if you decide later down the road that you need Part B (and you will) at that point you would be subject to a hefty late penalty. Additionally, things like chemotherapy are covered by Part B and without it, you could be looking at ten thousand easily. Please sign up for Part B.
@jimsmith971715 күн бұрын
@@iHealthBrokers Okay you almost have me convinced to add Medicare Part B to part A. I have a few different envelopes that are for Medicare that I have not opened yet because I think it will be too complicated. Is part B going to be easy to add or are their going to be a bunch of different providers to choose from within part B that I have to choose from, or is it just part B?
@iHealthBrokers14 күн бұрын
@@jimsmith9717 Part A and Part B are Original Medicare. You will likely be automatically enrolled in both and should receive your medicare card in the mail. If not, you should contact social security to enroll. The other parts of Medicare (Part C which is Medicare Advantage, Part D which are prescription drug plans or Medigap/Medicare Supplement Plans) are optional. You may receive mailers but would have to actually enroll with the assistance of a broker or medicare.gov. If you have any questions you can reach us at 888-410-0344. I don’t understand about the Medicare Advantage plans people that want to switch more than a year can they switch? I was called 2 months before my 65th birthday by a Medicare sales agent - in violation of 22 CCR 53880 prohibition on such phone marketing on Medicare - and told he was “an agent working on contract with these State of California to help the State get caught up with its Medicare enrollment” that “the State fell behind due to the pandemic.” This was a lie and fraud, deceit, but also a direct violation of CA Penal Code sec. 528,5, if not also 538g. So since no one else called me before or since that made me think he was legit. Nope! Just a lying Medicare salesman that damaged my fundamental interest in my Medicare coverage. He enrolled me in an Advantage plan, something I would not have wanted if he had properly informed me on Medicare, and if he had never called I would have done my own research and rejected the idea of an Advantage plan. It was over a year before I learned how I’d bee duped. But Medicare only allows 1 year to switch from Advantage a Supplement plan. I went past that by 2 months by my the time I figured out how I had been lied to and duped. So I called the federal Medicare and Medicaid people and complained and SHIP too, asking for an SEP, but told only the Calif. Dept. of Insurance could help me. Maybe SHIP will help if Calif. Dept. of Insurance refused to help me. Seems tho were refusing to help but helping a little now, but very little. No attorney will take the case. I need subpoena for phone records and need to take other measures to show I am telling the truth. I probably need a court order, a writ of mandate, to get the SEP, because I believe the Calif, Dept of Insurance will let me down 100%. They set this situation up so a lying fraud artist could lie to me as the sales agent in question lied to me, ruin my Medicare for life (my “no preexisting conditions” right is now lost to me forever, unless I move to NY or CT), so this is costing me. They COULD have made sure this kind of fraud could not succeed, but they did NOTHING. So now you know what I’m talking about - I NEED AND DESERVE AN SEP.

Good information, except AGI is NOT “Gross Income minus deductions”. Important to understand this and correct your statement to minimize confusing others. Your AGI is calculated before you take the standard or itemized deductions -which you report in later sections of your tax return. Taxable Income = AGI - Standard Deduction ( or Itemized Deductions).

Any idea as to how the "eligible for coverage" from a job would apply in my situation... When I'm lucky enough to find a job, I travel across country to work around a month, then travel home. In some cases, I get enough hours to qualify for coverage that generally lasts 1-2 months, then is gone. I need coverage through the year, but no way I can afford the retail price, so I generally have gone without. Just need to know if there's any way to get REASONABLY priced coverage so I don't have to go long periods without any type of health care. Thanks

This sounds a little complicated. I'll do my best to answer here, but if you want to discuss in more detail, I'd recommend calling to get the best possible solution: 888-410-0344. If you have enough hours to qualify for coverage you would likely be able to use that coverage for whatever amount of months are available to you. After those coverage hours expire, you would enter into a special enrollment period and be able to enroll in a marketplace plan (likely with a premium tax credit) at that point. I hope that helps!
