Does your Standard deduction affect your MAGI? Is the MAGI amount figured before or after the standard deduction?
@iHealthBrokers5 күн бұрын
Basically, you'll need to determine your gross income and then your AGI. From your AGI, some deductions must be added back in order to calculate your MAGI. These added deductions include things like tax exempt income, tax exempt interest, etc... Hi: Im trying to pick a health plan offered by a federal job but is so overwhelming. I understand that premium, deductible & out of pocket are very important terms when we pick one specifically the last one. But im confused about what is the difference between catastrophic limit & out of pocket. Could you please explain me that? My husband will have a surgery right after we enroll with the insurance plan. So we need to make sure our out of pocket is not too hight. Thanks
@iHealthBrokers20 күн бұрын
This video is specifically about catastrophic coverage plans, but I don't believe that is what your question is referring to. Does your plan list specific figures for catastrophic limit and an out of pocket maximum? That is unusual. Can your HR department assist? Without viewing the actual plan terms, it's hard to explain this especially as often catastrophic limit and and out of pocket maximum are used interchangeably. I wouldn't want to say that definitively without being familiar with your specific plan!
@eikoGoldstein23 күн бұрын
She has confused us in her definition of AGI. It is NOT, repeat NOT, total income minus standard deductions. It is income, (wages, dividends, IRA distributions, social security benefits) minus "Adjustments". Adjustments are things like HSA contributions, IRA contributions, self-employed FICA taxes.

The whole country is a scam not just Medicare. Anybody that invest money in the healthcare system in these United States, is out of their mind. All the medicine comes from China. You don’t know what’s in it and they don’t care about the side effects and none of them cure you of anything they keep you sick for as long as you’ve been on medicine. And that’s a fact. They just subside some symptoms, but then they give you others. Let’s take our leaders for that. Don’t even look sick. Look at them they have things going on issues. Dementia, Parkinson’s nerve damage look at the hands flying every time they talk look at how many times they repeat the same things over and over and over again like you’re watching a rerun every time Trump opens his mouth he says the exact same things he doesn’t even have to go hold any speeches. He just asked to play his videos over and over and over because he says the exact same thing. Kamala Harris was the same way. I hands flying all over the place and never said anything except the same thing I came from a middle-class family. They could care less as long as they’re laughing all the way to the bank while they’re stealing your money on taxes and all these fundraisers, and all they do is hold parties and celebrate while they laugh at you.

Thank you for the great videos, as always!!! Looking to retire in 2025 and one of the shocking things to me is the large deductibles and MOOP with ACA vs employer provided insurance. My deductible is $3,00 and MOOP is $4,200 with employer. Am I missing something or do people really shell that type of cash out if expensive medical treatment is needed? Just WOW!
@iHealthBrokersАй бұрын
There is definitely some major shell shock when switching from employer group health insurance to ACA plans! That being said, many, many basic services are covered prior to meeting your deductible. If your income is considered low enough during retirement, you may be able to qualify for a large enough premium tax credit to make one of the higher premium/lower deductible & MOOP plans more feasible. But still, yes, the plans do have higher out of pocket costs than what you have had in the past! Thank you for your comment!

Cobra was beyond ridiculous expensive when I retired 3 months ago. When your health insurance premium becomes more expensive than a mortgage payment, you step back and ask yourself what the hell am I doing here? I am convinced the American “healthcare” system is a total scam. We are looking at options, including leaving the country. My wife and I are both healthy and have no risky habits. We will probably wind up with an international plan through Travelers. The one caveat of course is it doesn’t cover the United States. I wonder why? 🤔🤓

Dental insurance is not needed. Most dentist will offer a non-insurance rate for basic dental care. If you have major dental work, you are pre-paying for it through monthly premiums and you have to a wait a year to use it. I plan to go to Mexico for my major dental work. Its safer than you think and definitely cheaper.
