Try washing a 4" square of your wool fabric. I'd just wash and dry the swatch as you would normally treat any of your Knits the first time and see what happens. Sometimes you can get away with it. If so, do it a couple more times to make sure it doesn't felt on you. If it doesn't like that treatment, try something more delicate again with another swatch and see what happens, perhaps just soaking and spinning, and dry on a cooler setting. If it really doesn't like that, try just soaking it in cool water with Eucalin or some other wool wash that doesn't require rinsing, squeeze or lightly spin it out and lay it flat to dry. You can treat most wools like that, but it's a bit more effort.
@JustMeAndMyFabric13 сағат бұрын
Hi there, thanks for this great advice! I'm not sure I've ever seen the product Eucalin but could definitely find something similar. I thank you for watching the video and taking the time to provide this helpful info. 🙏🏼

@JustMeAndMyFabric there are several different things you could use. Another is called Soak. They are usually for cleaning hand knit garments and don't require rinsing. You buy it at yarn shops. But really, you could just use a gentle soap that you have yo since. It's just that with some wools, the less they are handled when wet, the better. This one may be just fine being washed on a gentle or wool cycle and dried on low, or even hung to dry.

I love your top. It's the kind I wear the most. I checked, but I don't think I have that specific pattern, but I have one very similar to it, but it comes with a dress. I think I need to make it now after seeing yours. That burgundy looks great on you.

Another viewer has a definite point with the color/neckline being too big. It’s difficult to see if there is a back yoke or not. I would remove the sleeves, open up the side seams and lay pattern pieces on top to see what kind of room you have. The armscye is very large so that may determine what’s usable. It’s a gorgeous fabric and you will do something beautiful no doubt!

I like no collar blouses. My neck is short and a collar takes up skin. So with your long hair i would choose a no collar giving your neck area a cleaner look.

Pants look great on you. Interesting pattern. Don’t quote me on this, but I thought I read somewhere that when you add rows of stitching to elastic, like you did, it actually makes the elastic less stretchy, hence why the back waist feels looser on you. Just thought I’d mention it. Thanks for sharing.

I've made a few pairs of the Clare pants for summer - just in light fabrics, and I've thought of them as casual pants for hot weather. But your beautiful pair have made me rethink this pattern and I might try them in linen or a "nice" fabric next, when I saw your pair I could immediately visualise them in the office with a tunic or blouse. Thanks for this video.

So glad I found your unboxing. I got mine last week. Like yours, threads were everywhere and i thought it was used. I see yours I the same. It amazes me that they don’t care enough to be more careful with the threads. I remember that brother used to take more care of their machines when preparing for sale, so i never dreamed they would be so sloppy. (Of course, i always got my machines from a local shop) So, i returned it and got a replacement today. I opened it tonight and, again, the threads are a mess. It is worse this time. It took me 45 minutes of untangling and the blue thread is so tightly wrapped around the foot that i cannot get it untangled. The foot is frozen and unable to be lifted. I’m afraid of breaking it, so I’ll call brother tomorrow morning. It was about 20 minutes too late to call them tonight. I’ve been sewing for many, many years, so I’m used to sewing machines but, like you, it took me much research and fretting before buying this one. Like you, i was attracted to the many happy users on line. Wish me luck.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience. I hope your new machine works out for you. Once I got everything all sorted out, it was smooth sailing from there. I've enjoyed using my serger and it is not difficult to rethread. I'd love to hear how it all works out for you! Thanks for watching!!

@ amazingly, 2nd one is worse. Brother wants me to take it 50 miles east to get a certified repair. Instead of driving round trip 100 miles, I’ll return it and try one more time. I feel jinxed. I’ve never heard of anyone having trouble so I’ll give another chance.

I'm so impressed, Angela! I've been wanting to sew pants for a couple of years, but am so intimidated by the fit. But I'm giving it a go with a pair this month. I'm really interested to see your makes this month. I hear what you're saying about heavy ponte pants! I made the Style Arc Parker Ponte Pants and used a rather heavy ponte as well. I wear them, and they keep me warm, but yeah, they're a hefty pair of pants. 🤣🤣 Wow - 12 inches of snow! Living in California, I've just never had a snowy day. Farley is so cute! Ricco our little Maltese doesn't like to get his feet wet when it rains. I can't imagine him liking snow like Farley does! Looking forward to your makes!

Hi Carol, thanks so much for stopping by! I totally understand about getting pants to fit right. It's something I've been working at these last few years. I somehow, with a lot of trial and error, got a pair of McCall's pants to fit perfectly a few years ago and then I traced the front and back curves onto heavy paper to use as a template. I use this template every time I make a pair of pants and so far it hasn't failed. The only thing I'm using the template for is the crotch curve (the tricky part, for me at least). I'd love to take an in-person class one of these days so that an instructor can explain it all to me, hands on with some samples. Anywho, best wishes with your pants this month!

Those pants are lovely-well worth the time to fix. Do you think that pattern style could be made shorter (midi-length) and work as a split-skirt? That might be something I try-easy style to wear when getting out of a car while looking like a skirt. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! I'm so happy I changed out the elastic in the waistband. I wore them for Thanksgiving and got compliments (& maybe even a request for a custom-order pair for a friend). I think you could easily shorten them to a midi, and I may end up doing that for my own pair; I sometimes trip over them when wearing flats, they are kinda long. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you have a great week ahead!
