@@box_05 Yes the Cape Sundew can be in the same pot. Cape Sundews (Drosera capensis) are tropical sundews just like Drosera burmannii and Drosera spatulata. I haven't heard of growing Capensis in air conditioned environments unless the plants are grown in green houses. Since I grow all my plants outdoors all year round I can't comment on air conditioned environments or greenhouses for that matter.

@succulentflytraps 5 күн бұрын
Hi there .....I have heard of peat free mediums as a substitute. However without any info about the medium you're referring to I can't provide specific advice. However my recommendation is to source more information from the manufacturer of the medium you intend to use as to whether you should add perlite or not. There should be labelling specifying whether it can be used 'as is'. If so then you don't have to add perlite. Alternatively try to get in contact with any local carnivorous plant nurseries about your potting medium. They should be able to help you further. Happy growing!

One thing to note that frequent contact with bloodworms can end up with developing an allergy after a long while. It's a pretty strong allergen and some sellers even put an allergy warning. Some fishermen or aquarium hobbyists end up getting this allergy after years of being perfectly fine. Like getting itchy eyes after using bloodworms or even touching exposed water.

Hi there and thanks for your enquiry. The fact that you’re seeing droplets is a good sign. Just make sure you give your plant gets at least 5 hrs of direct sunlight with soft water in the tray. One thing I noticed with some of my plants last summer was that some got leaf bleaching. I suspect that it was as a result of the really hot days we got. The base of the leaves started getting red blotches. There was also smaller droplets and less dew on the leaves. They like plenty of light but the plants don’t like it too hot. During those hot (say above 30 degrees Celcius) you may want to place your plant in a location where it gets morning sun and afternoon shade. Alternatively you can permanently place your plant in a morning sun / afternoon shade position. So long as it get its 5hrs of morning sunlight it should be fine. Just some options to consider and experiment with to get your plants looking their best. Happy Growing to you.

Hi there I love Australia because there are so many amazing and unique species .......including spiders, snakes and carnivorous plants! We have the Red Back spider which I'm pretty sure is related to the Black Widow. Red Back spiders are amazing in that they build 3 dimensional webs. Just last week I saw a small lizard get caught in the web which is very strong. The lizard must have been injected with venom because it was well and truly dead. We have the Huntsman which is huge and has hairy legs. It looks really scary but it is actually very placid and not aggressive at all. The scariest experience I had with a Huntsman is seeing one crawl on the INSIDE of my windscreen as I was driving. Luckily I had the nerve to pull over and relocate the spider. The Funnel web spider is the most dangerous. It is large, black and quite aggressive. I once found one in a bath-tub. As soon as I approached it lifted its 2 front legs - that's when I knew it was a Funnel Web spider ....... the looks of the spider also convinced me. The reason why they lift their front legs is because their fangs are so large. Did you know that the most toxic venom comes from male Funnel Web spiders? Like most dangerous living things they don't want to hunt or hurt you intentionally. It's a matter of respecting them and learning to live with them. Cheers and thanks for your interest in our unique fauna here in Australia.

@succulentflytraps 3 ай бұрын
@@SeasonedBeauty_MyrnieS Hi there and thanks for your enquiry. I just had a look at some forums on Flytrap care. It seems it gets cold enough there during the winter for dormancy to occur naturally. Here's the link: flytrapcare.com/phpBB3/venus-fly-trap-dormancy-in-arizona-t24786.html#:~:text=In%20Arizona%2C%20you%20will%20likely,dormant%20naturally%20on%20their%20own. I would place your plant outside during your winter period just for the plant to experience the colder nights. This will give a clear signal to the plant that winter has arrived and this should trigger dormancy in your plant. Even with freezing temps your plant should still be ok. I mean that's the reason why they go dormant...to protect themselves from harsh conditions. With regards to hot temperatures I have my plants in full sun. Last summer we got temps up to 42 degrees celcius (108 degrees Fahrenheit). My plants were ok. Having said this I would monitor your plants for any leaf burn (look for black patches around the edges of NEWER traps). I say newer traps because older traps eventually get darker around the edges too as they die off. If you get burning of traps consider uding a shade cloth. Or since your growing your plant indoors consider repositioning your plant so it doesn't get the full brunt of the sun (late afternoon ....3 pm onwards). Do long as you're plant gets at least 5 hrs of direct sunlight your plant should be fine.

They're awesome! They work day AND night and in terms of VOLUME of insects caught they can't be beat. Another big advantage of these plants is the variation in the size of insects they can catch. From tiny ants to large wasps....anything that can fit into the pitchers are fair game. With Venus Flytraps they don't catch no where near as many.....their smaller size explains this. Insect size is determined by the size of gaps between the teeth once the traps close. As an example ants can trigger the traps but can walk straight out of the traps in between the teeth. Happy growing to you.

Hi there ......what I really love about pumice rock is that its porous and pretty much anything grows on it. I still have this planter and apart from the VFT going strong there's moss which has established itself nicely on the pumice planter. I also normally add sections of moss around the base of the freshly potted plant (in this case a Venus Flytrap). This helps keep the peat moss within the planter and prevents erosion from rain exposure. At the same time the section of moss which I add spread moss spores to other sections of the pumice planter. Over time moss and seedlings just manage to grow nicely on the pumice.

I have a question for you. I picked up a venus flytrap from the grocery store. I noticed that it doesn't have the red in the center of the trap. Is that a sign that the trap is dying or is that something that just happens and over time it gets that red color?

Hi there.....excellent question! Its something that I often wondered about when I first started growing these plants. The type of cultivar as well as growing conditions determines whether the traps turn red or not. My popular Big Mouth cultivar turns a lipstick red colour when I grow my plants in my outdoor nursery. The plants get around 7-8 hours of direct sunlight. I have another Typical Form of plant which only turns a faint red colour. Both types are getting the same growing conditions....its just that individual plant's characteristics differ. My advice is to provide more than enough sunlight (greater then 5 hours). If the plant DOESN'T turn red then you can pretty sure its just the characteristics of the plant (or cultivar - cultivated variety)....happy growing to you..😃

@@succulentflytraps thanks for getting back to me so quickly I appreciate it. I left it out there today for about 8 hours and I did the extra pot with the distilled water at the bottom with it. As for growth, does it get bigger if I repot it later on in the future or is it stuck relatively at the same size? Also I named my plant "Audrey 2." If you know what that is from brownie points to you.

@@TheConnonedrum @TheConnonedrum Hi there and thanks for your enquiry. It depends on whether your plant immature or not. If its still young the plant will continue to grow larger traps. Of course there's a maximum as to how large the traps get and this is when the plant 'peaks'. I have plants at my nursery which get up to 3 to 3.5 inches in length. Once the plant gets to its maximum traps size it then starts to develop tiny plants or offshoots from the main rhizome. Over time these offshoots get larger taking up more space. You can leave your pot plant as it is for years and it will happily grow along with its genetically same clones. Once the pot gets too crowded, untidy or you just want the plants to be more presentable then you can start to carefully divide the plants from the main rhizome. You can place the offshoots into separate pots or put them all into a larger pot. I would repot / divide the plants in late winter or early spring. Its always nice to see offshoots because it's a sign your plant is happy and comfortable. Audrey 2 was the main character in the Little Shop of Horrors.....👍

Do we have to put the plant in an aquarium in the apartment in a dry climate like Iran??
@succulentflytraps
@succulentflytraps 4 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you for your enquiry. So long as the plant is standing in a tray of water then there should be enough humidity around the plant. Therefore you don't need to place the pot plant in an aquarium....hope this helps and Happy Growing to you!

I doubt there's much snow in S Carolina in the winter. Can these plants withstand freezing temperatures? How cold are your winters in Sydney? And...I enjoyed watching your video. Well done.

Hi there ....happy you enjoyed the video. The winters here in Sydney Australia get down to single digit figures in degrees celcius (overnight that is). It never snows here although we do get frosts. I'm really not sure how well they endure freezing, snowy conditions.....check online for this info. Happy growing to you.
