Thank you so much for this video. I had the Zf and I loved it, but in the end, I ended up trading it for the Z6 III. If I had the money, I’d have both. But for me, the ergonomics of the Z6III won out. It’s smaller and actually lighter than the Zf, if you include the small rig grip. Both are incredibly good cameras with very similar images. Also in the real world, like you, I haven’t seen any issues with dynamic range on either camera.

One comment to dual card slots - when you use 2 cards as a backup mode (which is IMO the most useful mode) speeds always drop to the slowest card. That means having 1 cf-express (A or B) and 1 SD is basically the same as having 2 SDs. With Sony it could be 2 SD cards, Nikon (and Canon) forces you to get much more expensive CF Express unless you get their flagship with 2 CF-Express B cards. In that sense I think Sony have better approach (at least in the enthusiast/entry pro grade cameras) with CF-A choice being compatible with SD.

Maybe I fail at arithmetic but wouldn't 51.4 megapixels at 43.8mm by 32.9mm give **smaller** photosites than 25.3 megapixels at 35.9mm by 23.9mm? I make them about 18% smaller. Asked without inflection, with grass appropriately grasped.

I am doing landscape photography in Australia and I love my D850 with top Nikon glass ........... BUT I will be getting a Zf this year because I can see great potential for this camera on an upcoming trip to Japan. I just imagine for street photography or in little bars and restaurants etc. I want it !
@Hazard4TacticalАй бұрын
The XT5 can be set to send photos to your phone as you shoot, so having film simulations is great because you can post those JPG’s straight to social media right from the outdoors and mix with your cell phone shots. Then edit any great shots from RAW back on the computer later. It even works when the camera is off in the background. For a street and personal camera this is very important.

The same with Nikon and its app.

I’m sorry, bud, the review seemed to be going ok until you reached autofocus. Generalising about Nikon’s AF (intelligence) performance v Sony & canon is not a camera review. The detailed z6iii v A7iv reviews on AF I’ve seen show the Nikon camera ahead in this dept. And this is really important. Please keep the review evidence-based rather than subjective.

I absolutely LOOOOOVE my Zf. It’s a retro powerhouse and looks gorgeous in Red. It still delivers stunning hybrid work and this obsession with 6k/8k is a touch out of reason. 4k still provides amazing images and most large TV’s still haven’t gotten to the crazy 8k res. I personally didn’t care for the Z6III and returned it. Though to be fair I have a Z9 for the heavy work but my general workhorse is the Zf. I love basic controls and can make super quick adjustments without mixing up banks. The reality is, coming from decades of experience where I started in full manual, we are incredibly spoiled with the capabilities of modern cameras. Even the Z50II is an amazing camera in its own right.

Awesome video! If you can, please do this video comparing the Zf vs the Z50ii.
@fireinthechoir2 ай бұрын
Why compare a full-frame to a crop-sensor? FF is going to win in almost every area except size and weight
@Telly26Ай бұрын
@ I like seeing real world examples and how things fair up to each other. I believe the color rendition is different but have yet to see a side-by-side comparison. I believe the Z50ii predecessor Z fc was more prone to be brighter and the Zf showed more contrast. It may not be for everyone but it’s a comparison I would love to see.
@Telly26Ай бұрын
@@fireinthechoirAlso, the Zf is frequently compared to the Fujifilm XT-5 and that’s crop sensor.
@fireinthechoirАй бұрын
@@Telly26 fair enough. I do feel like the Zf / X-T5 comparisons are kind of weird too. I think people just compare them because they're retro styled. I haven't really seen any X-T5 vs Canon R6 or Sony a7 IV comparisons

Get rid of that ugly grip. If you don’t understand the concept of the Zf (and Z fc) shoot with boring “modern” cams.
@csc-photoАй бұрын
Can you explain the “concept”? Because it’s the difference is holding a gun vs holding a vhs tape. There’s a reason why camera ergos evolved the way they did. Even with my F3 and FM2 back in the day - battery grips (aka - motor drives) on both. Massive advantage in handling and all-day comfort. That said - yes nostalgia is fun. Grip pops off in 2 seconds if you want that “full” experience.

I have both these cameras along with a tiny M43 Lumix with a pancake and they all fill very different use cases. My EDC (everywhere daily camera) is a pocketable M43 Lumix GM1 with a pancake lens, it's what I use instead of a phone and is great. When I'm out actually making images then it's between the Nikon and the Fuji GFX - portraits and it's going to be the GFX in most cases. Also, anything that isn't moving it's mainly going to be the GFX - with low light being the exception. Anything moving, low light, events, travel, it's the Nikon. With this approach I don't find there's much overlap in use cases. For reference, I pretty much only shoot 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm.

Interesting comments about autofocus accuracy. I much rather have a camera that has less FPS, but near accurate focus for every frame taken versus a camera with higher FPS, but with more shots out of focus. Maybe a future Z6III firmware will give the camera a bit more autofocus accuracy. Thanks for the review! \(^o^ )

I've been using the Sony a7 IV, and I'm very happy with it. I went with it thanks to familiarity with Sony already. At work, I use an FX30, and my studio/streaming camera is the ZV-E10. It made sense for me to choose the a7 IV. Now, if I had the money, I'd have gone with the a7R V, but that's a bit out of reach for me.

No they wont. Nikon lacking ultra compact great 35-85mm lens. Their 28/2.8 and 40/2 not there enough. And its design choise was strange why use flippy in street cam. They should use: flippy+tilt/ tilt/ flippy with second back eink screen like xpro3

In my film-only days, I shot 35mm film in Nikon F and Leica M cameras. I shot 6x7 and 6x9cm medium format images in Fuji and Mamiya cameras. In this digital era, I shoot Fuji SLR and mirrorless APS-C digital cameras and am now considering a Fuji GFX medium format digital camera. Image quality, aspect ratio, and lens compatibility are very important factors in my decision-making process. The image quality comparison in your video has been very helpful to me.

deal breaker would be the way Zf feels in my hands. Way too heavy and hard to grip, other than that Zf is a much better deal especially where I am, Zf is cheaper than xt5. But man Zf should've been designed in a smaller lighter profile, adding any grip and the Zf can surpass Gfx in weight lol

Been playing with GFX50 S II with my A7RIV and Z9 side by side for a while, to me is huge exaggeration about those "Medium Format look" claim, you really have to put two side by side and have to really looking for those difference to see it, in order to gain those IQ improvement, I have to give up so much in AF tracking, speed, and ergonomic, it doesn't matter how good the sensor is if I can't get it focus properly, it's not just frustrate but painful shooting the GFX50S II side by side with my Z9 and A7R IV, and the A7RIV even has a out dated AF system already but still gives me more reliable AF than the GFX, to my own experience the GFX 50S II is still a generation behind my D850 in term of AF. also a lot of people rave about the Shallow DOF control of Medium format, really? FF has 35-50-85 F1.2 and 135 F1.8 lenses and the fastest Fuji lens is F1.7, what Shallow DOF control?? The only thing I see in MF is the DR improvement over my FF, but I have hardly exhaust the DR/Noise capabilities of the FF so in order to be able to take advantage of this once in a blue moon I will have to I struggle to get quick reliable on every shot and have to review every picture I took on the spot to make sure it's in fact in focus.
