I usually have to go to the Publix off the island for fresh dead, or I go to Bull River Marina for any live.

@fishincontrol9 күн бұрын
Their fins have spines that are very venomous. I would not recommend grabbing them like I do. I've been doing it a long time. If you can, use a hook remover or pliers.

Good video. I have a couple of spots around Tybee I put traps out. I used to always use fish carcasses with pretty good success until an old timer saw me checking my traps one day and told me to use purina puppy chow. I bought some small mesh bags on Amazon and tried it out. I have to say I’ve noticed a substantial difference in the number of mud minnows I catch using dog food
@fishincontrol11 күн бұрын
Dog food is a great bait bait. Lol. Bait bait. I'm just a broke ass. That and my dad was born during the Great depression, so I make use of everything. If I can use scraps from the fish I just caught as bait to catch more bait to catch more fish... I'm all about that life.

Going to Hilton head next week how many lines u think you need there? And what’s the best rig set up new to surf fishing
@fishincontrol17 күн бұрын
If you are new to surf fishing I wouldn't do more than one or two rods. Using one and holding it most of the time, you will start to learn the difference between Crabs, fish, waves, etc. and how each one affects the line and the rod. Trust that when a fish you want actually has it, it is a much more significant tug on the line. The best rig to use is either a pompano rig or fish finder rig. If you have the opportunity to tie some up in advance, that is definitely the most economical way to go. You can also order great rigs from Salty's Pompano Rigs or Frisky Fins. If you need a rod and reel combo, there's nothing wrong with starting off with a cheap Walmart combo. Then when the reel dies on you, replace it with a cheap Penn pursuit or Daiwa BG.

@fishincontrol18 күн бұрын
It's the most adorable way I've found to keep them separated and organized. I'm sure there is some kind of binder with reusable sleeves, but this method has worked pretty good. I do one pompano or whiting rig per bag, then I do all my 30# fish finder rigs in one, 50# ones in one, etc.
