He was told he had two weeks to file to have it set aside after making payment so he had plenty of time. Why do they call them Sheriffs when they are not? Just curious, The Sheriffs role can be traced back in history to the Saxon era and is one of the oldest official appointments. The modern day Sheriffs are now called High Court Enforcement Officers and there are currently around 45 of them covering England and Wales. The Courts Act 2003 gave rise to the new system we use today which created the post of High Court Enforcement Officer, and removed the role of under sheriffs. The role of the sheriff became only ceremonial, so why do they use it? These people are not Sheriffs. They are Certificated Enforcement Agents (often called Bailiffs). I guess The Certicated Enforcement Agents are coming, does not sound quite as snazzy lol
