The guy talking about nodal points towards the end I think was a little bit mistaken. The nodal points are the areas of the shell that do not resonate due to the length of the sound waves. It is not caused by hardware. Some companies like Yamaha actually put their hardware at this point to limit its effect on the resonance.
@WelchTuningSystemsInc16 күн бұрын
You are correct, though the net result of removing hardware from the shell as he described is spot on. The removal of up to 90% of the hardware mass and holes from the shell of a drum via WTS results in a more dynamic and resonant drum.

The Reso 7 is a great option! Of course, if you're using a thicker batter head, you'll want to go with a thicker reso to provide a similar sort of tonal response.

The notion of a free floating tuning system allowing the shell to sing, is wonderful idea. The problem is 2/3 of that shell voice is immediately lost because you can't tune the top and bottom heads independently of one another. I figured out how to solve that problem... if you're interested.
@WelchTuningSystemsIncАй бұрын
Have you had a chance to try our system in person? We respectfully disagree with you regarding assessment of tonal loss. Drums with our system are capable of pure tonal response as well as a multitude of customizations through drumhead and muffling choices while being the most intuitive and efficient tuning system available. Over the years of development we experimented and iterated until we reached our final design for a practical solution that minimizes hardware on the shell.

How about just hanging ONE mic over the kit and letting it sound like a drum kit that's being heard by human ears? Recording techniques really have gone overboard in the last 50 years... The Greats didn't need any of this to sound "good".
@WelchTuningSystemsInc2 ай бұрын
For sure! Though most recording sessions (depending on style/context of course) utilize a combination of close and distant microphones. The key here is that changing the tuning is quick and easy regardless of how you choose to mic them up- drums with our system don't require any special treatment with recording.
@uzefulvideos34402 ай бұрын
You want mics to be close to be able to isolate specific instruments. And with a stronger signal also comes lower signal-to-noise ration.

The best way to get a merchant to carry our drums is by expressing an interest to the merchant. Customer demand drives their decision making so if you and your drummer friends communicate your wishes to your preferred shop, they’re more likely to take an interest in stocking our drums.

You're definitely.going to want to have a cable cutter available for maintenance. If the end of the cable is frayed, all you need to do is clip a bit off of the end for a clean end point. Enjoy your new drums!

While our system isn't meant as a retrofit for fully finished drums (though you could theoretically plug all of the holes left after the removal of lugs, etc.) manufacturers can purchase hardware directly from us for use with their builds. All they need to do is contact us directly.

So both heads will have the same tension??
@WelchTuningSystemsInc3 ай бұрын
Tension applied to both batter and reso hoops is balanced, though that doesn't necessarily mean that batter and reso will resonate at the same pitch or frequency. That depends on the mass of the heads.
@martinmendoza14923 ай бұрын
@@WelchTuningSystemsInc So that means I can still achieve my preferred tension on both heads? Even on the snare?
@WelchTuningSystemsInc3 ай бұрын
Is your concern the tensions of the heads or the pitches / interval between heads? Tension is balanced between the two so that you don't have to worry about adjusting them independently and trying to make them work together. Both heads vibrate in sympathy. You can affect pitch independently through drumhead choice but we recommend taking a step back and focusing on the sound of the drum in performance rather than getting lost in the minutia that we're so used to with traditional tuning.
