NIce setup and explanation - tnx. You didn't mention any "potential" impact of the leaves and weeds on wheel contact resistance with the track. Feels like at the low traction voltage being used that could also become an issue if things weren't cleared periodically.

Thanks for another great video. I'm not a very practical person and I had guessed the track beds were sprayed but I was think "a really big time consuming job by hand". Your method has turned what would have been a back breaking task into quite a fun job which would take no time at all by comparison. I hope your Christmas has gone well and that 2025 brings all you could wish for.

Trams can have grass on tracks not just because they mow it a lot, but also because they have concrete sleepers that don't rot
@CNW41455 күн бұрын
Very true!
@briannem.67875 күн бұрын
I think that most of the time, it would be more like ladder track rather than traditional railway sleepers? afaik it is quite the same as concrete embedded track up until the step where the concrete would be added
@fanOfMinecraft-UAs_channel5 күн бұрын
@briannem.6787 Idk In my country it's just concrete sleepers (or wooden in places that weren't replaced for like 50 years), and when the road is there I think they just put sleepers and put the road on top
@briannem.67875 күн бұрын
@@fanOfMinecraft-UAs_channel I just went and checked, and it seems that it's done that way in Melbourne (AU) too. I think I remember the gold coast light rail doing it differently but I'd have to check. I was sure that modern tram track was done as ladder track, I remember seeing a video somewhere that showed it, I'd have to go searching for it...

As someone who's in the process of adding Harp switch stands to a model railroad layout I have to say I really like the look of your real ones. How well do they work? You mentioned making frogs so I assume your switches as a whole are handmade.
@CNW4145Ай бұрын
The harp stands work great, they are easy to make and very functional. All the switches are handmade, while there are cast frogs available for this gauge they tend to be hard to find and expensive so I just make everything on site. More fun that way too :)

Greetings from the 300mm (12 in) tram system! What are your plans for using the diamond?

Quite an array of rolling stock but all with a job (or two) to do to earn their keep. What amazes me is how good a condition they are all in considering a lot of it is out in all weather, and the fact that your weather can be quite extreme. Thanks for the video, as usual I really enjoyed it.

great video! 2 questions though, 1, what is the little yellow tram in the depot, 2, why dont you use the birney much?
@CNW4145Ай бұрын
The small yellow one is called an open car, it was originally a 15" gauge and was re-gauged to 24". The birney does get out from time to time, in fact just last week I took it for a nice high speed ride. Next year I plan on doing more videos of the equipment operating as its been a while since I have taken some of those.

at least the flooded track is extra well grounded. though if it gets too high it would be too good at grounding and may damage undercar equipment... though I've seen videos of trams fording large pools of snowmelt water just fine in russian springtime, so I think suprisingly the motors themselves would actually hold up somewhat okay?

Thanks for the update and sorry about the flooding. The flooding is bad enough but thankfully you haven't had wind/tree damage at the same time. Hopefully the flowing water doesn't scour too much. Take care.
@fanOfMinecraft-UAs_channel2 ай бұрын
On the part that goes inland, maybe at the same time as raising rails make a small drainage hole at the side, so the water can flow inland on one side of the rails and not cross it , so there would be less erosion on track itself (idk I don't really know how water works), and also stick several pipes between two sides so in places it could flow to the lower place. Also I think the water hole would just become a big puddle if it was deep, so if you do it don't dig it down much. Also I don't think this would really prevent much flooding, but it would help rails stay over water
