What a fantastic addition, this really opens up a whole batch of new possibilities for you. Well done!

dude, you really are an engineering genius, if you actually built this yourself, then I sincerely respect you ) and it’s even envious, I always dreamed of having such a railway road, but you did it, you’re really awesome!

This was a very useful upgrade, for there are all sorts of handy uses now being able to run things from the ground when out working on the line. You mention the changes on YT and it's obviously changed a lot over the years but we still appreciate you sharing these different projects. YT seems to have become so homogenized and the algorithms here and elsewhere can be highly annoying at times (though it DID bring me to this channel long ago, so it's not allll bad, eh? lol). So many channels now "chase the algorithm" and lose their original appeal, so this is always a refreshing visit. Thanks!

You might want to look at the ESP32 units you can set up a wifi network around your system to control and monitor everything having wifi and Bluetooth built in saves having separate radio like the nrf it also enables the use of a smart phone for a control unit.

What a fabulous addition to help with maintenance. Thank you for sharing 👍
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
It really will be, I'm really excited to get to work on it in the spring. As a general rule I do no overhead maintenance after September as the amount of tree limbs that come down on the wire in the fall and winter months would just ruin all that work and I have to redo it in the spring anyways. Fingers always crossed for no heavy wet snows and high winds through the winter, that is mainly when all the destruction takes place!

nicely done...that is a great addition. Love to see you using an arduino too. You'll now need to post some of those remote control locomotive signs around the property, locomotive cabs might not be occupied! :)

Thank you for the vid. Your overhead is so good you can back down wow.
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
I wondered if anyone would notice that lol. I wouldn't run fast that way but honestly that is one of my marks of the health of the overhead- if I can push the pole things are perfectly set!

Behold, the worlds largest toy electric train. Ngl thats very impressive, would be very hilarious to see the boxmotor fitted with this and just see it run without a crew seeming "out of control"!
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
I'm going to be putting a video of the boxmotor up soon, I actually ran it this year for the 1st time in over 10 years. Control system upgrades are planned for that car soon so it will be like the others- which means its conceivable that the remote could interface to it if I wanted to :)

OK, my mind is always blown by the amazing RRVT projects! I am puzzled that YT would demonetize your excellent channel? You have more views and subscribers by far than my small channel. Perhaps they will defund me as well soon. Anyway, excellent work, and thank you for the update.
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! The issue is with watch hours and they added a new requirement where you have to upload 3 videos every 90 days which obviously I haven't been doing. More incentive for me to make regular updates I suppose, and I'm close again on the watch hours so maybe soon I shall start getting money again for ties and rail :)

No snow here yet, its been a very dry winter. Going to be 50 here around the holiday so I'm hoping to go put some ties in while off work as I dont think the ground is even frozen yet. Very unusual winter but I'm not complaining! Merry Christmas to you as well :)

Always love seeing what goes on at the RRVT - A very handy accessory for the steeplecab, will you be adding one of those big strobe lights next to the pole when you're in RC mode? The steeplecab is generally a great looking and performing little locomotive, very quiet!
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
No strobes planned, we don't want to get too modern looking lol. I agree that the steeple cab has been a great performer, it has allowed me to pull bigger work trains which means more work can get done in a day!

I have enjoyed every RRVT video without exception, and this one joins the list! Just curious if you are clear of the overhead when doing the remote overhead line check? In the motorised car you seem well protected from a falling catenary, whereas here if you were tempted to operate from the rear car to observe then, perhaps, it would seem you are quite exposed to a falling catenary? However I'm sure you're already all over this, I'm only mentioning it is I hope you stay safe and have many many years of RRVT ahead! Cheers =)
@dshack468911 ай бұрын
ah and also forgot to ask, what height do you set your catenary to? I'm 1.9 metres tall so I was trying to imagine how high it would be above me, cheers!
@dshack468911 ай бұрын
ah nevermind the height question, just learned from your other video kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3iZaHynl56VZsU that its set approx 8 foot above the rails - cheers!
@CNW414511 ай бұрын
You can touch the catenary while it is energized as long as you are insulated from ground. Rubber boots work fine for this, and I am also standing in a wood deck car which also makes it insulated. So there is no issue doing the work with the line hot. What would be a problem is if you touched the line while some bare part of the body is grounded, then its a really bad situation so we make sure this isn't going to happen! Happy holiday season to you :)
@38911bytefree8 ай бұрын
Have you considere or would be possible to enable the loco with some type of battery operation to enable you to work on the catenary will unpowered. What DC voltage the loco works on internally ?. Great addition. I would add a kill switch, in form of a cord that you can plug int hte front on the loco it you can trow it on the gondola car while you are working in case something decides to missbehave you can hit the stop button. Well probably a cord to attached to the trolley would work LOL.
@CNW41458 ай бұрын
Battery operation is possible as the motors are 36V DC. But for cost reasons I operate from the catenary.

You could take this further and integrate a remote shutoff for the OLE should you need to isolate it and not be next to the main supply switch.
@CNW41459 ай бұрын
I've considered this actually, but the walk is never too far so it just hasn't been done.
