As a ford fan since I was a kid who went from Mustang to a Corvette I would take a Corvette over any new mustang the ZR1 is probably the best outta the 2 the ZR1 all around is just perfect and better at the price

The GTD is a limited production homologation special, made by a racing shop. The ZR1 is a world beating high performance supercar , they are for 2 different purposes and likely different people

I have owned both corvettes and mustangs over the years. My current corvette is. 2019 ZR1. My last mustang was a 2018 Shelby GT500. I loved both cars for different reasons but always felt a mustang was just a mustang no matter the model. The Z06, ZR1 were in a different class. Admittedly this current mustang is a different car. Still, it’s not worth spending $300k plus on a mustang. I do think Chevy missed an opportunity in the ZR1 when they didn’t go the DRS route. That said, it’s still the king of the hill to me

As someone who owns the last generation Shelby a 2022 Heritage Edition GT500 which basically shares the same engine as the GTD I can definitely say without a second's hesitation I would take the ZR1 even if the GTD cost the same

One other difference: I applied for a GTD through Ford's process and got a build slot. To get a ZR1, you have to play stupid dealer games and God only knows how much of a mark-up.

You were fortunate to get an allocation. The first ZR1's will likely have huge markups. Give it a year and it will be 100K less than the Mustang. Ford would never select an ordinary person like me, but I would have a shot with a ZR1

The reason the GTD gets so much hate is because its a Mustang. This thing is most definitely a monster byt people cant get passed what it looks like. Definitely think the GTD will be faster on the track though.

nice to see a side by side. as you know, i have a mixed feeling here. I'm certain in many scenarios, the ZR1 will be faster than the GTD. But the GTD is engineered completely different. Carbon fiber full body, hand built, inboard suspension, on and on. It is not just a faster mustang. I think if you just want the faster car for cheaper, absolutely the ZR1 is the better choice. The Mustang GTD buyer is buying a collectible piece of automotive engineering art. And with that will unfortunately come people who stash them with the plastic still on them rather than driving them.

Both are pretty badass, but they're too different for a good comparison. For the money, you just can't beat the ZR1. Even after the dealers mark it up to over $200k, it's still a supercar bargain and strikes fear in the hearts of Ferrari and Lambo owners. 😆 Ok, I was being dramatic... but yeah, it's a lot of bang for your buck. The Mustang looks amazing too, but I just can't see $325k for it. Um... not that I could afford one anyway.

Hard to tell which one is better right now. Really need to see them on multiple tracks first. However. I will say the Mustang is more interesting because its supposed to be a street legal GT3 car. And no mustang has ever been given such a huge budget like this car has. So we will see just how well Ford did with this.

This! Most if not all people here do not understand what a GTD is. They just thought it’s a soup’d up mustang. It’s a bespoke car, unlike any other Mustang hell even the corvette. Z06 and ZR1 aren’t street legal version of their C8 R race car.

Its pearl blue...I was there. If you have to have a Mustang, this is it. If you just want a super performance car, go the ZR1. Do you think you could do some of the mods you like for $100,000? Wait to see what Hennessy does for less than $325,000. The Zora may well get what is not on the ZR1. They have to leave something on the table for that last model. I hope the Zora gets a roof scoop...the front fender vents, the active rear wing and I would like a different rear design and maybe different front fascia as well.

I also would’ve liked to have seen a DRS type wing on the ZR1, but for the majority of the tracks, I don’t think it’s gonna make much of a difference as far as top end with 1064 hp that ZR1 is still gonna boogie down the back stretch

I'll bet the ZR1 will smoke the Mustang on the road course and drag strip. Actually, the Mustang isn't built by Ford but by a Canadian company called multimatic. This company also built the Ford GT supercar. I still give Ford props for offering this to the general public even though it only has 800 horsepower.

You know what you'll pay for the Mustang if Ford allows you to buy one. There is no limit on what the dealers will charge for the "market adjustment" on the ZR1. There probably will be little price difference, maybe the ZR1 is more expensive for a while. We need to actually see the performance difference once cars are released to production.

As far as a DRS system for the vette. It doesn't need one because it has the power to hit over 200 mph easily. All that aero crap on the Mustang is great on the track but not too good on a street car. I personally think I would rather have the Porsche GT3 over the Ford GTD if I was buying a track car and not using it for street duty.

I think the comparison is really foolish. The ZR one is a hyper car with 1064 hp in over 800 foot pounds of torque. It will beat the GTD from 0 to 60 quarter mile to half mile mile and virtually around any track in the world. That is the true test of a hyper car.
