The Chase Sapphire partnership definitely is a big win for those with Priority Pass, as not only can you get one free visit per year to Sapphire Lounges but it puts pressure on the other The Club lounges to elevate their standards to that of The Club Sapphire Lounges.

I was able to buy mine even during the halt of sales. In the USA, you canorder it online and they ship it to your house. Was super easy.

If you're traveling with a big group what is the maximum amount of Pasmo cards you can buy from these offices in the airports? If you request something like 6 cards will they refuse because of the recent shortage?

I don't think you'll have a problem if everyone in the group is physically there. They just don't want to sell more than one per person.

Suica and pasmo work in Osaka but are not sold in Osaka. The Icoca card is sold in Osaka and also works in Tokyo. If you have a Suica or pasmo, you do not need to buy an Icoca.

You should be able to do this if you have a mobile suica on your iphone. But you may incur fees from Wise or your bank.

This is for when the wifi is working but the network blocks your access to the Internet. If the public Wifi isn't working, you should talk to a staff member to see if they can help you.

Just download the apps! I only used digital transit cards in Japan, and the Suica worked all over Tokyo and Kyoto, while I used yen coins in Osaka.

Some ticket offices may sell them intermittently but this is very unlikely in Tokyo. Other than buying one secondhand, the cities where you will most likely be able to purchase a blank Suica from a ticket office are Aomori, Morioka and Akita.

Quick comment on suica app for iphones, my friends from california used it on their trip to tokyo a week ago, and it worked perfectly, He was also able to add funds to the app easily in english. I, on the other hand, have an android phone, and the app appears to be only in japanese. I was unable to get a suica card at terminal 2, I ended up buying train tickets for the 12 trips we made on local trains on that trip. take care!

Is there an analysis that will show if it's worth staying(paying) at lower tier hotels, to gain the points which you then use to stay for free at higher tier hotels? And, is it better to use the points for free nights, or, can points be used as a way to upgrade your room from the level that you have paid for, and that's a smarter way to use points?

You can always take the cash price and divide by the points price to see what the value per point is for a particular stay. If the value is low, it's better to pay cash but if the amount is high, it's better to pay with points. Booking a hotel stay you don't need for the sole purpose of earning points will almost never make sense. Unfortunately, Marriott doesn't have a good way to use points for upgrades and it's best to use points for free nights.

Suite night award is only on paid nights which do not include non-refundable advance purchases. So basically, you have to first pay a premium rate in cash, in order to see if you can get the “free” upgrade

There are indeed problems using Nightly Upgrade Awards (formerly called Suite Night Awards) with non-refundable advance purchase bookings. But they can also be used for award stays booked with points or free night certificates, not just paid stays.

The rooms here will be larger than what you can get for a similar price in central Tokyo so I personally don't mind taking the train 30-40 minutes from here to Tokyo station area for a couple of days. If you plan to visit many places further West than Ikebukuro or Shinjuku, then you'll likely want to stay somewhere closer.

Titanium is reached at 75 nights in a year but the amount of points you earn depends on how much you spend. If you regularly pay for expensive hotels rather than cheaper hotels, you'll have more points. When you book a hotel using points, they will be deducted from your account.
