I marketed to friends, family, and anyone who LOVES delicious bakes! I started my home bakery in my student housing kitchen back in 2012. I borrowed a mixing bowl and an electric hand mixer from a friend. Our student house's oven was broken, so I baked everything at my then boyfriend (now husband)'s house and finished packaging it at my own student house. I did this for a whole year! This can look different for everyone. But it usually involves building up your client base and orders over weekends and saving up a little. I did markets, and had wholesale clients, this can be a fantastic way to create a super stable income in your Home Bakery! I baked for wholesale clients for 7 years and I LOVED it. In a nutshell, you need to take them samples of your best baked goods. But there are a lot of extra things you can do to increase your chances of success. If you want to learn my exact steps for getting and retaining Wholesale clients, I’ve got a Wholesale Clients Blueprint in my course Home Bakery Pro. You can check it out here >> homebakerypro.com/join-now All the BEST!

@ Wow! Thank you for the reply! Yes, I saw that in the video that’s why I thought it was cool because you just made it work. I thought about markets and events etc. but yes maybe best to start with friends, family and bringing samples. Anyway, thanks again for the reply and extra info. Best

Hi, I am struggling a bit with the pricing calculator. I understand your cupcake analogy perfectly(dividing by 12, to get $5 a cupcake). But what about loafs of bread? I get $45 for my final selling price and I don’t under this. The loaf of bread wouldn’t be $45. Can someone please help me?
@aureliaphilosophyofyum20 күн бұрын
It sounds like there can be several issues to check on >> 1. Are you charging too much for your wage per hour? 2. What about active time? You do not want to count proofing, baking or cooling, as this is passive time. 3. Ingredients cost - be sure to only calculate the cost of the ingredients you are using to make that one loaf or loaves of bread at a time not the full package of flour - only what it takes to use for that recipe. Hopefully this is helpful and thank you so much for your comment.

Thank you for this sage advice. I am looking into doing a home bakery starting beginning of next year. Gathering all the info I can to make transition smooth as possible.I have started just looking on amazon to get an IDEA of what items I eventually want to have but it will come together in pieces. I have most of everything to get started now. I am just waiting to move to a better place with a larger kitchen because the place I have at the moment is too dang small. pricing ingredients you need to cover at least your ingredients cost and time. Depending where you live that could be 3 or 4 times the cost of your ingredients but again depends where you live. Dont undercharge and dont do favors because it is a business. Treat it like one. Otherwise you will not succeed if people bat their eyelashes and say can I get this for a discount or free.

Genuinely, thank you. I think mistake #8 can apply to every single life endeavor. I am a recent graduate so I have been feeling really scared about starting my career in general. Asking myself “What if I’m not good enough?” And I’ve always been interested in starting a home baking business as a side hustle but never got the ball rolling out of this fear. I really needed it hammered into my brain that this fear means that I care a lot about it, which means I must do it anyway. Growth is often uncomfortable, but we CAN and MUST do it. ❤️

Love your cat!❤ He is so cute and he sounded like he said "hello." I do have some questions though. What are your thoughts of freezing chopped fruits for preparing the ingredients? Or do you think they will keep just fine in the fridge after chopping them? Also, I read that pets need to be kept out of the kitchen when making cottage food for sell. How do you keep your cat out? Just lock him in a cat room when you are baking?
@aureliaphilosophyofyum4 ай бұрын
Hello Katelyn, thank you for your sweet comment. 😻 Doing as much prep work as possible will always be helpful for your home bakery, the only thing you should be careful about is some fruit when frozen absorb a lot of water which in turn will affect your recipes, so be mindful of that. Your public health department is a much better place to get the direct answer to your question about pets. Laws vary by state/localities. Luckily my cat stays clear of the kitchen when I would bake for clients. All the best!
