You saw the curse stop Emma from leaving in episode one. Nobody ever makes it out of the town, for one coincidental reason or another.

I actually think that Pen is beautiful and she definitely looks better in either the paler and more subdued colors or darker colors like the green emerald green dress she wears to the first ball or the pale green one she wears later on, because with her hair color and skin tone the yellow she was always forced to wear wasn’t flattering at all but in either pale or dark colors she is stunning.

I have the same question about the drinking. It's crazy how often the characters are shown downing alcohol. It's unhealthy, yet depicted in a casual manner.

The comparison that Madame Delacroix makes - in the first episode of Season 3 (at the beginning) Pen is walking through the ton watching the reactions of the girls who were mentioned in that issue. When Mdme. Delacroix uses the comparison of the “look on a woman’s face when they put on the dress”, I think about Pen’s little smirk of pride as all of these women were getting so excited about the fact that they were in Whistledown.

I want to point out this story is about the upper class, lower class women then and now have had similar lifes. A lot of those “rules” are upperclass rules. Must like today

Francesca looking at them outside of the church was more jealousy and insecurity over her mother not acknowledging their match with the same fervour as she does with Polin, not a jealousy to want what Polin have.

You're so observant! I've heard tons of people criticize season three's writing, but I don't see the problem with it. And seeing you analyize the different plots as they unravel - and so often being spot on with the predictions - I think the writing can't be bad. I've had a lot of fun watching season three anyway.

I loved season 3's writing. It's different from the other two, in a refreshing way. How Polin's relationship unfolded, as well as the Featherington's family dynamics being more deeply explored and developing to be far more healthy were beautiful. All the major and minor characters, such as Eloise, Benedict, Francesca, Lady Danbury, Violet, Anthony, Kate, Cressida, Queen Charlotte, the Mondriches, even Gregory and Hyacinth, experienced wonderfully believable character development.

I was really on Regina's side for the whole "who is Henry's mother" thing. Sure, Emma gave birth to him, but she gave him up, forfeited her rights. She hadn't seen him since he was an infant. Regina is the one who raised him, kept him healthy, well fed, cared for, Regina loved Henry and stepped up and made sure he had a good life. Regina's his mother, Emma at this point in the story is just the egg donor

rumplestiltskin telling the evil queen "so long as i say please" in the fairytale world and bringing that in at the end of the episode in storybrooke is him confirming to her that he's awake. thats why regina looked so shocked and angry. i love the little hints in the show when it comes to the plot.

Aw, Im so glad you will watch this show! I lolve it, and watched it many times. I was not the audience they were reaching for exactly, but I still loved it. I figured it is a familyshow, so the fighting scenes, violence etc are not that realistic when it comes to the sets, costumes, but I think the story always was great, and the stories are what it is all about. The acting, although at times a tad dramatic, was well casted and played. If you let yourself enjoy it and not nitpick about sets and cgi and stuff, I think you will love it too. The last season was not to my liking though, and I dont really consider it canon. :p

A most entertaining commentary! You asked for other films like it, so I propose The Remains Of The Day by Merchant Ivory for similarly repressed emotions, and Blade Runner (The Director's Cut) by Ridley Scott for its visual symbolism and the many questions it provokes.

Here is a tip, season 1 is all about the introduction of each character per episode. Season 2 to 6 is where the real story happens. Season 7 is completely separate from all 6 seasons. And don't try to predict the future too much. Sooner or later, u will get all ur answers through each episode, u just have to wait, watch, and concentrate on what u r watching and it's story line. U need to be patient. Do not forget to write and track down the family tree through all seasons. It's really important. I know it through experience. Beware, it's no ordinary family tree. BTW I watched this series a long time ago, but i still find the family tree ridiculously hilarious. Be patient

You are so insightful! I’d suggest you watch the latest adaptation of Emma (another of Jane Austen’s novels). Without a doubt this is my favourite adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. When it came out, I was almost convinced they wouldn’t be able to pull it off: telling this long, complex, subtle story in a movie. But it is so well adapted.
