It makes sense that death would have a friendly and welcoming personality, its the only comfort between living and non living. Death is the last familiar experience in life you'll ever have.

I've watched hours and hours of analysis on this series for years, and I can safely say that this is the best in-depth analysis I've ever seen. Thank you very much for putting together such a well-made video, both with the narration and editing but above all with the breakdown and your way of approaching your analysis. Besides that I can see that it involved actual social studies and properly applied to this series, you touched on points that I had not seen anyone else notice. I feel that it's one of those readings that every time you read, depending a little on what part of your life you repeat the reading, you can learn or notice different things, I read them once or twice a year and even then it doesn't stop surprise me how much you can continue learning or identifying through them each time Thank you for your dedication❤

Thank you so much! I'm really glad the analysis resonated with you! It means a lot that the breakdown and approach stood out, and I'm happy the social studies angle added something new. Thanks again for your kind words!

I honestly loved Hob. I'm tired of the trope of immortals getting tired and depressed from life, or being inherently evil just because they want to live forever. Just by mere probability there should be at least one person who wants to be immortal not because they're evil, they simply must love life so much they wouldn't get tired of it, at least for a very, veeery long time.

Sad, this show could have been fantastic like the comic that it was based on. However, it was made in the time of moronic wokeness, and that very wokeness pissed off the fan base. So much so that the show failed. If one can over look the moronic woke stupidity, it was not half bad. Too bad. Oh, and Gaiman showed us all that he is a woke cuck. What an idiot.

I haven’t watched the live action series, but I loved this relationship in the books as well. It simply showed how little Dream truly understood humans and those with the indomitable will to live.

Thank you for this detailed analysis! I also find it interesting that his singular passion for his work not only helps connect him with people like Katherine, it even seems like it is the only reason he can connect with them in the first place. He starts visiting Katherine under the pretense of helping her in her dissertation, bringing her books and such. He also connects with his daughter this way, with her sitting in his study and them working together. After she is taken away by Edith, he struggles to connect with her at all until the end of his life. I think his work is the only reason he found a connection and love for his daughter and Katherine, so while it might seem negative that he is only focused on his work and nothing else, it does open doors for him and helps him find love :) like you or the author said, it is his identity.

The animated episode of season one was the first time we heard the Gatekeepers speak and their voices were provided by Nonso Anozie, Diane Morgan, and Tom Wu. Perhaps they'll reprise them in the upcoming season. That might be a possibility.

Everyone praises Kirby Howell-Baptise's performance, to feel politically correct. Not only does he not act like Death, but that character must have been East Asian, or at least Asian-Caucasian. We all know that this was part of paying the Netflix toll, stop the hypocrisy. "Giving justice to black women and lesbians" was on their agenda, so they forced representation in as much as they could. She's a good actress either way. I'm only commenting because it's unnerving to see so many people jumping on the bandwagon for the sake of fell self-righteousness. And for those who want to quote Neil Gaiman, giving approval to this choice for the character... he knows his game. One of the main triggers of controversy and word-of-mouth publicity for the program was this casting decision. Rose Walker was another character who was meaninglessly blackwashed. The only sense I can see is so that there was no confusion in some way with Delirium... a character who could have switched races, and now will be important in the second season.

The gender and racial swaps is so over the top is actually infuriating, like, now Jon Constantine is a woman now? Death is black? Rose is black? I mean, at this point make your own universe with only black and gay people and leave the original IP alone, but Gaiman is on the pot, and he let it happen, like, what the hell man?

Reading it as a kid vs now as an adult gave me very different views. Now as an adult I can only see this as a reflection of how we are handling situations like Palestine and the Congo. Given this was a response to the Iraq war by Collins it makes sense why it relates to these things now. But as a kid it was about the horrors of the games as an adult it’s about the horrors of this being the real world

I admit i am very strict in preferance to the origianl version in all adaptations, so when i saw this actress as death, at firs i was like "not this diverity bulls*it again, they are ruining the original representation". But when i saw her perfom i was so taken aback that i thought "well why didn't they draw her like this actress in the first place?!" But seriously, she did an amazig job and now i can't see anyone as death but her. She's just so perfect for this role

Took me all day to get through this, in bits and pieces. But it was amazing, thanks for all the effort! This was rhe best breakdown of the series ive come across. A lot of these themes are further explored in The Balad of Songbirds and Snakes, and at least is worth a read for you, i think. I just finished rereading the trilogy, and am half way through TBOSAS, and it's amazing how different reading the books as an adult is from reading them as a teen. Understanding the themes and consequences better, etc. Anyway, wonderful review!

I think that Hob would have seeked death if his immortality didn't make him young, like he will get older, his body shutting down but being unable to die, he gets older and older till he becomes like a living corpse. Immortality wouldn't be fun if you are not young biologically.

Great video, great series. I love the characterisation of Death, maybe dream is meant to soothe our fears of death. Gaimans inclusion of death of a baby is an incredible nod to all of us who have experience of infant death (in my case still birth). Comfort and acceptance at the other side of grief - only someone who understands death could write it like that.
@HeadsAndTales6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and personal experience. It’s truly touching how Neil Gaiman's portrayal of Death in the series resonates with you, especially through such profound moments as the depiction of infant loss. It’s comforting to hear that his work could offer some solace and a sense of understanding during difficult times. 🧡
