I've been looking for a channel like yours. As someone who's never read the comics, I'm a newcomer who finds the story fascinating. I want to delve deeper and learn more about the characters. I believe I've come to the right place. Thank you for this detailed review. I wish you well with this channel.

Such a great breakdown!! Thank you so much for offering a comparison between the TV series and comics. I’ve enjoyed watching each episode - streamed the entire season over three days and just watched the extra episode that dropped a few days ago. My favorite episode is the one with Death, second favorite is the one with Lucifer. It’s visually breathtaking but, since I’m new to the story line, I appreciate ur deep dive into the background from the graphic novels. Looking forward to your discussions on every other episode. I’ve loved this Netflix series and hope to see Season 2 soon!! Hope also to see the other siblings, Destruction and Destiny, especially. Fascinating that Destiny is blind! Anyway, thanks again for sharing these breakdowns with us.

A minor correction - in Sandman Overture, which is set just before Dream's capture, The Corinthian is already up to his usual tricks in the waking world.

Thank you, a great review. A perfect blend of video, comic, personal and current reflections on the first episode. Having read all the comics, watching the TV show is magical. We have waited for so long and your review is spot on. Let's just hope season 2 stays on track unlike the Witcher. Please continue with the reviews!

Hey Bob, thank you so much for your nice comment! I was also really looking forward to the show, since I loved the comics. I originally thought about doing something similar for the Witcher, but I gave up since the adaption was terrible! Maybe I'll make some content about Blood Origin. Currently working on the Episode 2 review, hopefully you'll like it!

I'm watching the show going in cold. I've watched the first few episodes and still have no clue wtf is going on. Why was the ruby important? Wtf does his mask do? Wtf does his bag of sand do? House of the dragon basically spent the first two episodes giving exposition, which helps, but also has a major cheese factor to it in terms of dialogue. Sandman pretty much just thrusts you into a convoluted world and hopes you figure it out later, kind of like the Dune film. Videos like this help so thank you.

I was wondering why Alex’s punishment was so much milder then the endless (heh) nightmare the comic gave him. But good on Neil and the creative team for deciding ya know what, yah it’s great looking but it slows things down too much. Technically we don’t know what Alex is dreaming about in his endless sleep but we don’t know it ISNT what we saw in the comic. I wish we still got dvd extras. That would make a great deleted scene. The one change I don’t really understand is having Alex’s boyfriend see the circle is damaged and choose to ignore it. There’s no way he doesn’t know what Alex says will happen if Dream is allowed free. I don’t think we got enough insight into why he would decide to trust Dream when Alex eventually decided he couldn’t. We know he was the one who kept urging Alex to not give up on cutting some sort of deal with Dream. But he was also there when Dream pretty definitively turned down making any sort of deal, ever. The episode is so good this wouldn’t bother me I just think him not noticing the smudge like he didn’t in the comics would’ve been better.

Great point about deleted scenes. I expected more. So far they've only released one. In case you didn't see it, here's the link (it's nothing special IMHO): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJfEfodrnc6Gprs Maybe they wanted to add personal weight to erasing the circle, the clumsiness would maybe diminish all the agony Alex went through. This bothered him his whole life. But I agree with you, we don't know much about Paul for it to be dramatically satisfying. Maybe it's so the viewers don't miss it. Unfortunately, there are many moments in the season where the audience is being spoon-fed (one of my bigger issues with the season).

@@HeadsAndTales I feel like if Paul got more development the moment would’ve been stronger. Like if we’d gotten a scene of Paul continuing to try and convince Alex to let Dream go, and Alex being insistent, “no, he’ll kill us” and Paul saying like, “the longer you keep him the more likely that is, and besides you know it’s the right thing to do” and Alex being like, “no, we’re not talking about this anymore,” repeat for fifty years or so. With Paul wanting to let Dream go and Alex refusing out of fear of both Dream’s revenge and the memory of his father. I mean, catching an Endless, stealing his power and keeping him safely prisoner isn’t something mortals are supposed to be able to do. Roderick accidentally accomplished one of the most impressive feats of magic ever done. It was the great accomplishment of his life, and it made him rich and powerful. For his son to turn around and throw it away is something Alex couldn’t stomach, even if he knew and always had known that it was the right thing to do. He always wanted to make his father Proud. … this is all just a long winded way of saying I think a version of the script that was feature length, instead of hour length, might have had room for Paul spending years telling Alex, “you’re not your father, you know it’s wrong, you’ve got to make a leap of faith someday,” and Alex replying, “my father made us rich, it’s not like it’s human, he’d do horrible things to us if he got free.” Maybe even Paul threatening, “fine if you won’t let him out then I will” and Alex flipping his sh saying “ARE YOU INSANE promise me you won’t ever do that my god Paul do you realize what he’d do to you?!” Then I think Paul not taking any active steps to release Dream himself but also not contributing to Dream’s continued captivity when it was in his power to do so would hit better, like it was the conclusion of a character arc. Especially since Dream only punished Alex, but didn’t kill him, and ignored the existence of Paul. In the comic Dream’s punishment was horrifying to show us exactly what he’s capable of when he decides to ruin your life. The show seems to want to come down on the side of yeah, he’s terrifying when he’s angry but he’s also capable of mercy and doesn’t do collateral damage. I think adding the death of Jessamine is what made the whole thing work. Dream, stoic as he is, is really upset by that. I think we don’t really understand how upset until we meet Matthew. We never got to hear Jessamine talk but if her rapport with Dream was anything like Mathew’s then she wasn’t just his raven, she was his advisor and trusted friend. I don’t think Dream really realized how much losing her would hurt until after he had her guts blown up in his face. Now Roderick really has taken everything from him. I mean, I’ve only known him for one season but if anything bad ever happens to precious good boy Mathew I will riot! 😆 if jessamine was anything like Ratatouille with wings, then no wonder Dream can’t get over her death. Especially since he feels responsible for it. I think Dream still COULD have forgiven Alex if he’d freed him immediately after his father died. When he decided he needed to think, he lost the chance. They both hated rodrick, after all. But when alex walked away and came back with demands, even if they were reasonable this time, Dream decided he couldn’t be trusted.

The gender and racial swaps is so over the top is actually infuriating, like, now Jon Constantine is a woman now? Death is black? Rose is black? I mean, at this point make your own universe with only black and gay people and leave the original IP alone, but Gaiman is on the pot, and he let it happen, like, what the hell man?
