To answer your question, yes it makes us very uncomfortable when we are thanked because we don't know how to respond. I don't deserve thanks. And I don't necessarily care for veterans day. I came home living through the scars and guilt. it's our brother's and sisters that didn't come home that should get all the thanks.

That is why our people are fighting so zealously to preserve the memory of the dead and the horrors of war, so that such a tragedy does not happen again. But modern times are beginning to rewrite history or change people's values.

Sorry, I need the original theatrical cut with the inner dialogue narration. One of the few times the producers interference create things that end up just cooking - a 40s gumshoe, cyberpunk masterpiece. Watched this with my Dad years ago and still fall asleep t on it now years later. I appreciate all the “Director’s Cuts” but it’s just not the same film…

Not a parody-whatsoever. It is more an "homage" to all things Star Trek, including the fans and their conventions.

Nice. This is my favourite movie of all time. I'm 53 now and first saw this on TV when I was maybe 13. This started a lifelong study of Philip K Dick and all his works, and ultimately led to me getting my University Degree in Philosophy. Although lots of PKD works have been made into movies or TV shows, this one to me beautifully captures the essential question of PKD: what does it mean to be human? Stunning.

Humans have a finite lifespan and seek a longer life. Replicants have a shorter lifespan and seek a longer life. With both having a body, a mind and memories. What's the difference? I think Batty saved Deckert to show how much he valued life, even the life of someone trying to kill him.

Did he say he was surprised there was color back then? I'm old enough to remember when color was a selling point but it's 1978, not the dark ages. Battlestar Galactica was not just epic, but imaginative.

You should rewatch this movie if you have seen it only once. This was not an action movie. Fords character being a replicant originally not a replicant but the firestorm wanted to elude he could be. The original cut had inner monolog to explain things. Helped as a teen but now it's better without it.

So for Catholic Church history what happened was priests didn't have to be celibate for a time then when the church had several churches and property ie $$$ they were realizing that essentially the churches were becoming fiefdoms where leadership was being passed father to son or son-in-law etc. So it was a step to centralize control and make sure families didn't run sections of the church. Now I think given the easier ability to get messages out and the bureaucracy that exists I think priests could be married and not have it cloud their judgement or lead to titles passing to an unqualified son and it would be pretty clear what is church property vs personal family property imo as a Catholic because there are many married men I have met who would in fact make excellent priests. All things considered I also think if celibacy vows are what create this culture of secrecy that helps shield pedophiles I think the church should be more open to the idea of making it harder for a priest to be one especially when we still see cases popping up whether it be a random archdiocese in Canada or in Texas in the last few years.

This movie's music was so good, made by Vangelis, who was well known for his synthesizer music. I used to own a whole bunch of "synthesizer greatest hits" cd's in the late eighties and early nineties. I was really into that back then.

My take on Roy saving Deckard's life is that Roy knew he was dying. Their lives are pre-programed in their artificial genes; as I understand it they are artificial and superior humans and have this life limit not to replace us. They live 4 years and then they die like in a day. Roy knew he was out of time; his hand started dying and he drove a nail in both for adrenaline and to force his biology to enact repairs, and my guess is that he didn't want to die all alone. He also wanted to tell someone about his life before he went, someone to remember him, and perhaps .. perhaps in Deckard clinging to that ledge he saw himself clinging to life and actually felt sympathy. Rutger Hauer was one of my fav actors, RIP. Regarding Deckard; if he is a replcant (I know, won't tell. Someone else probably does.) it would make sense for higher ups in the police to know in case he went rogue. The final cut is the best cut. The longer one is just slower. The original have way less dreams so the mystery is not explained. Other cuts are just minor variations on these in my humble opinion.

17:45 Jerrybaldi was never stuck on B5. Sinclair didn’t want him coming because of the risk that exposure to the time travel sci-fi plot device (the tachyon field) would cause rapid aging and death for Garibaldi once he returned to the normal time line. It was always Sinclair who went back 1,000 years with Babylon 4 to become Valen and save the Minbari. The episode was setting up a stable time loop. Nobody else could be allowed to go because the timeline required that Sinclair go. He would be the one to reshape Minbari society into what we see in the show-setting up all of the rituals and traditions that they follow… Which makes one wonder: how many of the more unusual rituals did Sheridan set up JUST to mess with people (like the flarn eating ritual)?

Replicants are banned on earth because they lack empathy, this makes them sociopaths who are too dangerous to be here. Also, in the book there was a nuclear war that wiped of a majority of animal life. So people buy robotic animals as pets.

The thing you are talking about, in minute 7 never happened. Stalin did said a famous line, "not a step back, behind us is Moscow". But that was during the defense of Moscow, and was an order issued to the military, civilians were being evacuated from the city, but not the government. Stalin stayed in Moscow, with the rest of the government officials.

Original was released in 1982, not 84. They got Joanna Cassidy (Zora) back over 30 years later to help reshoot her death for this cut as the original was clearly a stunt person in a bad wig. Harrison Fords brother was also brought in as a double to improve the confrontation with the snake seller. They changed the audio with the captain as originally they said 1 replicant got fried, so for a long time there was a continuity error. Whether Deckard is a replicant or not is still debated. Gaff certainly implies Deckard is. Roy knew he was about to die so he probably showed an act of mercy to show replicants can be human too. 2049 by Denis Villeneuve is great, particularly visually and with the music. Will you get answers or additional questions...There is a TV series coming next year. Definitely watch The Hitcher (1986) to see Rutger Hauer in full on villain mode. Vangelis is probably best known for Chariots of Fire theme, though 1492: Conquest of Paradise theme is my personal favourite.

Second most iconic villain Rutger Hauer has played is "John Ryder" in THE HITCHER (1986). You have to check that one out.

Good suggestion. I would also suggest Blind Fury (1989), and Soldier of Orange (1977), an original movie from Rutger's home nation of The Netherlands.

Small detail. When the detective chief briefs Deckard, they mention 6 replicants but that 2 had already died in an attack, leaving 4 to hunt. And each of those 4 is shown on video. Then the 5th of course is added later, Rachel.

It was explained in the briefing when Deckard / Harrison Ford was brought in off of the street. There he was briefed by Bryant and was told about six replicants who'd made the escape. Two were fried in the attempt but four made it to Earth. He was shown the pictures of the four "skin jobs" The four wearing head wraps on the screen . Roy Batty probably the leader. Leon Kowalski a heavy laborer. Zhora Salome - Kick murder squad assassin. and Pris Stratton your basic pleasure model.

Rachel is different to the others, she has memories. Therefore she doesn't need a four year life span. This is why she doesn't have the childlike traits of the others.

The great Syd Mead is responsible for many of the special effects. Philip K Dick wrote the book, he was a junkie who forseen much of our future and provided fodder for a lot of Hollywood scripts. The chess game is an exact copy of the famous immortal game. This is a classic film noir pretending to be sci-fi.
@michaelconnor15422 күн бұрын
Replicants are not machines. They are constructed persons. With genetic codes. Modified to have certain traits and short lifespans.

Your comment about the Special Effects reminding you of CE3K is well founded. Douglas Trumbull was involved in the SPFX for both films.
