Is you carry out an earth loop test as you would normally the instrument will give you both Ze and PEFC on the same screen. Hope this helps.

Is there a video clip measuring the short-circuit current between L and PE? I want to know the short-circuit current between L and PE that is PE in a TT system. I want to know how many amps the short-circuit current between L and PE will be? Thank you very much, sir.

@@chriskitcher How many kA of maximum current and circuit can this machine test?
@ivang75211 күн бұрын
The only tester of any kind in the world that I've seen that for some reason has OFF function in the middle of the selector scale, which basically means it's unavoidable to cycle through tests without switching it off and on. again and again..???
@chriskitcher10 күн бұрын
Having used it for a while now I can tell you that scrolling through off is no different than switching between tests, there is no delay at all unless you stop on off and even then it switches back on in a second or two. The switch seems sensibly placed as live tests are one side and dead tests other than voltage measurement are the other side. Like all test equipment you soon get used to whatever you are using.

The reason we have DC isolators adjacent to the Inverter is so if the Inverter needs to be serviced off site, we can isolate the 'Tails' that go to the Inverter, instead of leaving the Live MC4 end waving in the breeze. But some Inverters have an integrated Isolator that you can unclip from the Main Inverter, so will negate the need for a seperate DC isolator
@chriskitcher2 ай бұрын
I think you will find that unplugged MC4 connectors meet all IP requirements and would not present a problem if identified and tucked away safely while any servicing carried out. My view is that providing the inverter has its own integral DC isolator the addition of an additional isolator is of no value and adds an additional possible point of fault. It’s a matter of choice I guess.

How did you set up the handsfree function? My tester says invalid connection when I press test?
@chriskitcher2 ай бұрын
You need to go into settings and allow the auto start hands free function. Once you have done that push the test button and the triangle on the screen will pulse, then connect leads.. There is a user manual on line for the X1 you need page 44. Hope this helps

@@chriskitcher Thanks! The option to auto test was missing in the settings. I contacted Megger and they said to update to the latest firmware which I did and it solved the problem!

The more I use it the better I like it, with regard to the r1+r2 test it is much quicker in most instances than my vid shows. Just happens to be a lot of earth noise in the building which slows it down but very accurate regardless

I understand the theory of what the instrument is doing, but I thought that we don’t generally measure volt drop in this way, as the test at origin and at the remote location, really needs to be performed simultaneously with the same instrument. Due to fluctuations naturally occurring in the supply voltage. If you test at origin then few minutes later test at the remote point the supply voltage will naturally move around due to loads being switched on and off (perhaps in neighbouring properties) Great video though Chris👍👍
@chriskitcher4 ай бұрын
All I can say is that I did a dead test and calculation, I then followed it up by doing the test in the video and the results were very accurate. In fact possibly the live test my well be a better method as when we do a calculation we would use 230 volts. The live test uses the true voltage. Interesting though isn’t it?

Hi Chris, what was the lead you used from the bottom of the isolator to the Megger tester?
@chriskitcher5 ай бұрын
I’m sorry Gary but you are wrong. If you look the socket is on a plastic containment system ( upvc conduit). Parallel path? I don’t think so! Mind you the vids are there for you guys to learn from and it’s nice that you are watching them, I hope they help you. Best regards, Chris
@mainlineelectronics52665 ай бұрын
Why would parallel paths matter, he's measuring from live to the earth bar, it doesn't matter that there are parallel paths to ground. If he took out that radials CPC from the earth bar and just measured the CPC to live, the R1 + R2 would be the same.

Great idea with the isolator; I'm going to make one. I assume that, since this is a 2-pole isolator, it connects diagonally. So, terminal 1 connects to 4, and 3 connects to 2. Then make a link between 2 and 4 with a second cable in terminal 4 with a female MC4 connector on it, correct?

Sir, when you connect the positive and the Negative ends of your solar PV string into the isolator, you basically shorted them? Will that be ok? No damage to the panels. Pardon my being a newbie. 😅

No damage will occur, joining them together is the correct way to carry out a short circuit test. Always ask if you are unsure.
