Awkward character idle animations and collisions ensue as Beardo and Milly get caught in a big sewer. I'm sorry the game got so generic so quickly

"Beauty? How dare you talk of beauty! You steal people's longevity research and make it your super soldier project!" "Perhaps the same can be said of all poorly written, one-dimensional militaristic villains." "Your words are as empty as this game's plot. Gamers ill need a plot such as this." "What is a videogame plot? A miserable little pile of excuses to get to the next combat sequence! But enough talk, have at you!"

I haven't been able to unsee this as a play since part 1 and it honestly does feel like one overly-long community theatre production with a $50 budget and a penchant for synchronized interpretive dance

Plot twist: Beardo isn't actually turning into a zombie, his arm is just really dirty after all this crawling around in airducts, sewers and literal dirt. That would clean right off with some soap, but they're all too dumb to realize that.

Okay I'm already on board with this plot. "Gosh darn it we we tried to make a super miracle medicine to fix aging and strife but those dastardly military fellas took it and turned it into literally the opposite, somehow! If only someone, anyone, could have predicted this! Back to mainlining Emergen-C, I guess. Hey, anybody checked on the frozen guy lately?"

It doesn't really seem like that, for once. Seems more like they were making that super medicine, and then the military came in and said "hi, we'll fund your research if you also use this technology to make super soldiers for us."

7:52 Millie! Die with me! I'm in love with that pushing animation and how it looks like they're flipping double birds whenever they do it. It's best when the character gets kind of stuck and is spinning around in that pose, like "Fuck you, fuck this place, fuck this mold zombie, fuck this whole situation!"

All the 'puzzles' in this game aren't really ones that make you think, they're just ones that are going to get you stuck if you didn't realize you haven't used all the oil yet. or that you can make a jump that a character just said they couldn't make (which makes me think you're supposed to backtrack).
@futonrevolution76717 жыл бұрын
I watched the Game Informer lp that the comments kept recommending, and they couldn't find the voice recorder. Thanks to that, they found the save-scumming trial-and-error "puzzles" slightly frustrating.

Marvel at moss covered rocks--I mean trees! I see Orlando's saxophone stalker made it to this game too, but only as a guest appearance. Again, something seems off at Millie's voice.

I looked up the game's Wikipedia entry, and lo and behold, I immediately recognized the cover. Overblood is part of a series of games i remember seeing in stores or in magazine ads, but never bought. Others include Kartia: The Word of Fate and Arc the Lad. These games have an allure to me since I was aware of them, but had no idea what they actually looked or played like. And today, I have never bothered to play the majority of them. So watching this Let's Play is kind of fun and finally answers some of my childhood's mysteries. As for the game itself, it really should be judged by the standards of the time. It's very typical of early Playstation titles, which were quite ugly. It took a few years to figure out how to get the most of the system. So, the graphics should really be compared to other games from its era. Remember that Alone in the Dark was just 4 years previously. So that being said, I don't think Overblood is particularly any good, just that it should be judged by the standards of the time, and seen as a part of gaming history. Now the counter to this is that overblood came out a few months after Resident Evil, which is a bit more polished and not anywhere near as ugly. Well, RE uses a different style of graphics (2D backgrounds, 3D models), and the two games would have been made at the same time, so it's not like Overblood's developers can react to a game that hasn't come out yet.
@LeeONardo7 жыл бұрын
Overblood in the magazines at the time was not reviewed well. One even mentioned how the only "action" that occurred after an hour of playing was the zombie collapsing onto the floor lol. Resident Evil (as you mentioned) was already out and had raised the bar. I will always give games like this credit though because this age of gaming (and the PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast era) were especially good for developers just making whatever goes. Trying out new ideas and just bad games in general that came of it but in a fun "have a laugh at it" way. COD4 ended all that for the worse by bringing in such high amounts of profit that every company wanted a piece of it and they're attempting to drain every last bit of money from customers they can. It can all be pin pointed directly to that game =/
@Camkitsune7 жыл бұрын
Having played Kartia: The World of Fate, I can tell you that you honestly didn't miss much. A janky translation and the mishandling of the split stories meant that it didn't really have much of a story to work with, but the real problem was that in terms of game play its mechanics just didn't pan out to anything interesting. The pointless Rock-Paper-Scissors mechanic, the fact that you got Game Over'd the instant any of your humans died, the trial-and-error nature of combining symbols to create Phantoms/Equipment/Magic, and the general jankiness of the resource management just made the whole thing feel like a waste of time. It's still a better SRPG than Monster Seed, at least...

^ this. The sheer, eye-watering amount of duckwalking and squats that Beardo does ever since he woke up from cryosleep gave him the glutes of steel, only rivaled by those of the wizard from The Immortal. He might look like a creepy tank-controlled ginger, but below the belt he is an Adonis among men. At least from behind.
@futonrevolution76717 жыл бұрын
Bo Jackson could do it and Beardo's clearly on that level.

Overblood is ugly, but it's pretty on par for early Playstation titles. It typically takes a few years for developers to figure out how to make the most of the games. Compare a 1996 PS1 game to a a 1998 or 2000 title. Even Resident Evil is a big ugly compared to RE2-3. Also, I only Just realized that the Beetus is not on the commentary, and hasn't been around since Part 2. Likely the delay in the updates is due to scheduling issues.

The trouble is that it _isn't_ completely incorrect, though. You knew exactly what he meant when he said it, so how could he not be somewhat right in saying it? Language is just noises to convey ideas, and him saying clip did that job just fine. Even if it's not true at the highest level of analysis , it seems at least 50% true which apparently is enough.
