I just did a quick look on google for a flexible steering shaft and there looked to be some great options. They would probably need to modified but I don't think that would be a problem for you. It would help to get rid of some of the u-joints. Hope this helps in the future of this build and future builds also.

You could design the front of the axle to simulate a wedge/skid plate kind of thing. So it doesn't hit the rocks head on, it has a rake to it.
@EyalGrossfeld2 ай бұрын
Chris, awesome project. Maybe you should consider the pinion angle of the front diff. you made a 10 deg caster angle but now the front driveshaft would not be straight at the pinion. you can give it a little more angle so the pinion will be directly toward the transfer case. Thank you for your videos. love them.

What about putting the power steering on the frame just not at the steering wheel but at the bottom so that the shaft comes off it and goes to the rack & pinion . That way it would only be going through 2 U-joints like it would be in any other setup.
@nathaniellangston51302 ай бұрын
I feel like the power steering closer to the rack in pinion is much better than mounting on the buggy. I don't have nearly the experience with building vehicles with power steering but I have built many many CNC machines and you get jitter when you have too much play between your motor and your "end effector" which in your case is the rack and pinion/hubs. I don't know if its at all the same but if it is I think its worth it to modify the power steering or maybe even get one of those stupid expensive off the shelf ones that are already smaller and start there. But you know 10,000 times more than me about building vehicles stuff! So I'm sure you'll know the way to go based on all the factors we can't really fully understand because we aren't building it!
@scharbon40892 ай бұрын
Did you know that by lowering your bans saw guide, that it won't turn has much and prevent making you having to compensate as much? You could even set a "straight edge" to cut perfectly straight lines! The closer you lower your band saw guide, to your piece, the better, like 1/16 1/8!

I know u prolly thought about this but how about an electric steering pump with a steering ram? Just my suggestion they do have different sizes of hydraulic rams check into it
@georqedubyakush60662 ай бұрын
Big thing vs Heim and Ball joints is that ball joints tend to fail spectacularly when they go. A lot of the time a heim joint will still hang on even if its super sloppy and wont hold for long. Could be the difference between sliding to a safe stop or sliding into a tree
@georqedubyakush60662 ай бұрын
Not saying one is better than the other, like anything really, the application and execution matters more than the physical characteristics of the part itself
@nao_tomori2 ай бұрын
what about hydraulic steering? then you could run hoses from the steering box at the steering wheel and out to the box on the axle and not need to deal with extra u joints and such. As far as tighter steering radius goes, we use something in the radio controlled crawler scene called a "dig setup". It completely locks up the rear driveshaft of the truck and allows you to pivot on an axis by dragging the rear end around. im not sure if they use that type of setup on full size trucks though.

Can you quickly go over how that suspension is supposed to work with no coils whatsoever? Seems like if that rig had had a functioning suspension it would have been one of your ultimate builds.
@ExoPhaz2 ай бұрын
they use fluid as dampening or whatever and have internal springs
@BigIronTexas2 ай бұрын
@@ExoPhaz Fluid dampening will not replace the coils of a functional suspension. The question is rhetorical. The suspension on this buggy absolutely does not perform properly and a lack of coils is the reason.

@Ratkill90002 ай бұрын
I wonder if there was a way to redo the whole steering column to make it so you only have 3 ujoints? That's about how many normal road vehicles have. What would be cool if there was a way you could instead have hydraulic power steering where you have a cylinder at the front that would do all the steering, then instead of a steering column, you would have hydraulic lines going to an orbital valve on the steering wheel, but you would need either an electric hydrualic pump or something to get the fluid moving. Least then, if you really wanted 4 wheel steering, it wouldn't take much to do the same for the rear then it would just be to swap the lines around to get the steering to go the opposite direction as the front. Maybe a bit much now, but incase you ever build one with a car engine, then it would be possible.

That is something that I hate about eBay, a lot of sellers don't give good descriptions of the items they are selling. such as dimensions of the items. (an example) is not long ago I looking into a new phone. because I'm hard on phones. and I think I would safe to say that nearly half the sellers. don't have the size of the screen in their disciption. which strikes me as really strange since that's the first thing that any person would ask. in regards to a phone, is what size is the screen. and they don't put it in the discription. but that's just one of my hates about eBay. if I had an archdroid/arkdroid what ever way it's spelled. I would use the hell out of it. there's quite number of brackets, braces, gussets, and oh so many other things that can be made with It. Ethan at GHPC uses theirs all the time. and John and Ike at cars and cameras have the Langford system. it's slightly different but they use it quite a bit. oh yeah I almost forgot, don't like ball joints either. they are too application specific. I'm curious to see how much better the rock crawler will be after the upgrades?

IT Is Adjustable By Voltage Inputs. Period. I Could reiterate the POINT, but that's Redundant. Unless the Person Using a part does Not Get The POINT. You may want to pass this on to someone using an Electric Steering Unit that can understand this. It may even help You with your builds too.
