Why wouldn't the machine-made people have belly buttons? Babies get their nutrients to grow through the umbilical cord. Shadow of the Erdtree should win. Just because it's an expansion, it still offers a complete spectacle. In today's terms, it's even bigger in terms of content and area than some full-price titles, and what does that say about us? To exclude it just because of its definition is not right in my eyes and the argument is not conclusive either. Then we would have to include more criteria for what makes a game a game of the year! But then you could also argue that Wukong is overhyped and boring because outside of the boss fights it's irrelevant and repetitive, and something like that should win game of the year? Or are we also judging the impact in the gaming community here? You'll never find the right criteria.
