Metaphor will and should win Goty (eventhough its pandering could send a wrong message), but Astrobot could take the win too (especially to pay tribute to the studio Hermen Hulst is abandoning).. Metaphor or Astrobot will win.., if Astrobot wins, they'll give Metaphor best game direction or some other wins (if Metaphor goes out empty after such an insane year for Atlus with Metaphor, P3R & SMTNVV, it would be a travesty..)

Shadow of the Erdtree should win. Just because it's an expansion, it still offers a complete spectacle. In today's terms, it's even bigger in terms of content and area than some full-price titles, and what does that say about us? To exclude it just because of its definition is not right in my eyes and the argument is not conclusive either. Then we would have to include more criteria for what makes a game a game of the year! But then you could also argue that Wukong is overhyped and boring because outside of the boss fights it's irrelevant and repetitive, and something like that should win game of the year? Or are we also judging the impact in the gaming community here? You'll never find the right criteria.

Miyazaki dispises repetition and no creativity. He would be reluctant to receive GOTY twice for the same game in two years. Being a Souls fanboy, I know Erdtree is just more Elden Ring. However good it is, there is no innovation compared to what was already recognized as GOTY 2 years ago. Wukong is an excellent choice.

If we're talking about Game Design: Balatro should be higher in consideration as it's revamping the poker genre. What you considered into choosing Black Myth Wukong in that category, is much closer to Art Direction category.

Bro, it’s an indie game that’s $10 on a mobile device and it’s mixing solitaire and poker together. That does not belong up there. It should be its own category. They should have Indy game of the year awards and high budget game of the year awards. Solitaire on a mobile device should be up there with wukong and rebirth for Christs sake.

dont mislead people here. Art Direction in WUKONG is for art styling in 3D models and 2D animations. Game Direction is the overall organization and structure of the game, including how gameplay and art presentation are put together. Game Direction is comparable to Best Director in cinema, and the 2nd most important category. While Art Direction is just the visual aspect, comparable to the music aspect.

I was really hoping dragon age would win goty. That would be the ultimate balloon and makeup in the clown show that is the game awards. But we did got a mobile solitaire game, and a DLC over stellar blade and space marine 2. So they’re still holding onto their circus.
