I have a Ducati Scrambler sixty2 that I bought last December, no problems with it and hopefully never will, I'm used to 70's Japanese bikes so this is new territory for me, every day is a school day as they say, great vlog learning basically how a Ducati 2 valve per cylinder works. Thanks from a new subscriber.

6 speed box, 800 heads, high comps?

At the moment the aim is a standard rebuild, trying to keep costs acceptable to the owner he just bought a new cylinder piston combo at a good price to replace the damaged horizontal.

Nellie interesting find there. Just caught in time before the grenade went off. (HOKITIKA STH WESTLAND NZ)

Yep, this could have been costly if the cylinder had failed in use both for the bike and owner if he had been riding it at the time.

Great Video! I just found out that my s2r 800 has glitter/metallic oil, other than that it runs good. Tried flushing it but no change. How would you proceed? Teardown first and see whats wrong? Ride it till it fails? Find a different engine?
@DesmoWerx6 ай бұрын
What did you find in oil filter itself? Did the sump plug have lots of material as well? Personally I would flush the engine a couple of times with a cheap oil to see if the metallic debris reduces before I committed to a full strip. As for what to do it comes down to mechanical ability, I would rebuild so you retain matching numbers, plus you know its good, another engine may have its own issues.

Any suggestions for my 01 monster 750 Output shaft bearing on lh side of case failed Bearing cage broke , ball bearing fell out and bearing race fractured in pieces. No damage to parts but bearing mounting hole got a little marred. Gonna use loctite 660. Should I just replace the bad bearing or should I do the opposite side as well?
@DesmoWerx6 ай бұрын
Personally if I were taking the cases apart as I needed to replace the bearing I would look at replacing them all. Other than the main bearings they are quite inexpensive to replace, and if its apart anyway why not take the time to cover all bases.

Question? Any one know the dimensions of the wooden box? Thanks!

Surprising that a main bearing would collapse at such low mileage. What do you think could have caused it? Low oil? Bad bearing from new?
@DesmoWerx7 ай бұрын
Hard to say not knowing how the bike has been looked after, it may well just have been a bad bearing that failed, but there is little evidence of any other damage inside the cases so must have been caught early enough to stop a catastrophic failure.

Hopefully that wasn't a professional rebuild. Do you think they missed/ignored the crack in the cylinder? I guess it doesn't matter, even if there's no crack visible you would think it should be replaced regardless with big chunks missing. So was the noise from the rings scraping on the crack or something else? Oh and on your next video on it, it would be interesting to hear what you think the original failure would have sounded and felt like... Would it have been a complete lockup, a horrific noise, or just a vibration?... What would be the signs that that was happening or about to happen?
@DesmoWerx7 ай бұрын
I hope it was not a professional as that would be worrying, I think the pinging sound the owner has been hearing was as a result of the rings running across the crack, its protruding as evidenced by the rubbing on the inside of the cylinder, luckily he had only done a few miles on it since acquiring the bike. Will talk through the possible impact of the main bearing failing in the next video for you 🙂

Too right. I watch Delboys garage and he puts some mind numbing stuff on there. I'd rather watch something good and wait for it

Very interesting damage. What did the owner decide to do?

We are going to refresh the engine, he has found a new cylinder and piston set which he had ordered and will send to me. Will cover off what the next steps will be in the next video
