Look at all that snow pushed back in the road.

No chains at all. I have plowed for 22 yrs in the states. We would move snow from the high to the low side of the road. The low side has much more room to put the snow. Keep making high banks makes plowing much harder. We also have a saying dont put snow where you already plowed. Then no need for a second truck. Just my 2 cents.

The plow looks very similar to the plow in front of a diesel locomotive.

Amazing, most likely the plow operator is worn out after 4-6 hours.

can you imagine someone trying to do this today with one of those 13 letter shit spreaders ? It would never happen. I started out in an 86 mack 6 wheeler 4x4, then a 89. You couldn't stop them. Back them we used to get 3 to 4 hundred inches in a winter.

Thanks for sharing this! Our county was Mackinac County in Michigans UP. In the 1960’s they used a big old plow we lovingly called the “Oshkosh”. It was a big V-plow that had a wing on the side to wing back the snowbanks when they got as tall as the top of the plow. We could hear that big diesel engine coming from 6 miles away. It was a beast.

Worked for Town of Root ,Montgomery Co in the the rarly 90's when the blizzard came through. All the regular dumptrucks took their turn getting stuck but an old timer named Bob and I truged on plowing and opening many roads with their 1980 orange walters.Seemed like you were on top of the world till the snow was as deep as the cab is high.

Headlights are on. If you're talking about the amber beacon, it wasn't working. I have since found & installed a NOS 4 bulb roto-beam which is the correct light for the year

The only bad thing about plowing snow out in the country is you never know where the road is at exactly and you get in trouble really quick

What was it about these incredible trucks that made them so capable? They weren't the heaviest trucks nor the most powerful. Blows my mind every time I see them in action. Could watch them work all day.

50,s and 60,s in hull massachussetts had 2 of these. One diesel one gas. Gas was retired to beach cleanup..the diesel one carried on till the very end of the 70,s. It was the only functional plow in the middle of the blizzard of 78 storm. It never got stuck. All the other plows got stuck on sunset point trying to rescue each other. Its sole purpose during the blizzard was to keep the 6 hills of the town cleared in case of medical emergency. There was nothing else left capable of the job. After that it was retired

It's a beast! But I'd add a ton of weight to the back, it could easily handle it and give you more control and traction.
