Half way throgh the video, when you stated cranking on it, hearing the engine what it sounded like I already thought: kinda sounds like its only building compression on one cylinder. But I did not expect, to see the entire piston and conecting rod missing, thats crazy😮 But good video, you cant be always lucky with these old tractors.

What even crazier is that it started and ran on one cylinder back in the summer

I’m in no way disappointed by this outcome or your lack of a successful resolution, Levi! This is a real life problem slash mystery! What we really want to know is how did this engine end up this way! Also, FWIW, I think you’ve acquired so many of these you’ve confused this machine with another you actually did run when you got it. Either that or a former owner had some secret mojo for getting it to run well on one cylinder. Come to think of it, the lawn tractor that got me into small engine work 3.5 years ago ran for one whole season on one cylinder - I didn’t know enough about them to think otherwise!
@LaidOffGarageКүн бұрын
I promise you rein, that tractor started and ran and drove onto my trailer back in the summer. That’s why I was even more shocked to see it was only rocking one piston !

Your video was great timing! I just acquired a WH 416H as a non-running parts tractor off FB. Found the same issue you described with a broken connecting rod in the front cylinder. Haven’t messed much with Onans, not sure if it worth messing with trying to fix or junk it and sell it for parts.

If the tractor is in good shape, I recommend checking out repower options !

That sheetmetal on the engine is not a heatshield. It is designed to direct the cooling air over the cylinders. Should not be run without it. Will shorten the life of that engine considerably.

So hard to look at what was such a lovely tractor in this condition. I swear I just do not understand how anyone can have so little respect for their equipment. As my long -deceased dad always said, if you cannot keep it under roof, you should not own it.

Bahahahaha…Buffering, that’s pretty funny stuff. I’ve done the same thing with a 74 Jimmy to a 76 Chevy pick up and back those days the brake pedal and the clutch pedal were all one assembly. I was surprised to see that that clutch is separate. I may try that on my 1990 that I have. Cool video thanks.

Excellent job that you have done of giving new life to an old Wheelhorse. As we speak I am repowering a worn out Yamaha golf cart with a salvaged Yanmar diesel like Merlin on Old School Garage. I got a Comet 94 duster clutch on the motor with no real problems, next is making my engine mounts and welding to my frame, Keep up the good work and hope to see more.

Now that sounds like a cool project! And funny enough, I’ve got a Yamaha G1 that’s been sitting for 6 months waiting its turn to make an appearance on the channel. The original rear end is bad and I cannot find a replacement! I’d even take a G2 rear end and make it fit at this point !
