49":00 - With Billy Swan, does anyone remember the Ringo sound-alike single he put out called "I Can Help" - which Ringo ironically badly covered on the Drunk Album?

Paul could have made a purely musical film with no plot, have live duets with Jackson, Wonder, Carl Perkins etc interspersed with experimental videos of maccas music and songs

I saw it in the theater, first run, no Rupert, I was in high-school and I saw it on back to back weekends, I would have seen it a 3rd time but it was gone out of my local theater very quickly. I liked it alot but at that point I had seen HDN or HELP so In my mind it is almost as good, now not so much. The music parts gold up very well, although I think Eleanor's Dream is a bit long.❤

Dylan needs to start a Ringo Starr KZbin channel! Really passionate and knowledgeable about Ringo and great storyteller too!

No mention of Paul`s current tour where he is singing better than in years? As far as Ringo goes. I love him as the drummer of the Beatles, but i have no need for his new releases, all though some of them are quite good. I loved his version of "Rock around the clock" which sounded amazing. As far as Paul and "Give my regards to broad street" i always thought it was a better movie than people gave it credit for. It`s not a great movie, but it has got a plot, and it was interesting.

Thanks for a fanFABulous show! Setting the scene, october 1984, me 21 yrs old in theater with other beatles fanatics eagerly awaiting 2 of our heroes to be onscreen together, producing a magical ......sigh Tough film to sit through. So much too mention, keeping it brief hahaha Silly love songs redux visually = flock of seagulls meets Klaus nomi + michael Jackson ...btw loudest groans of displeasure in theater during this scene. If the script followed the band around, from rehearsal to gig to recording....would have made a more interesting dream lol Ringo chemistry? Ringo chemicals more like it...supposedly drunk and cocained out of his brain during these years. The new songs are really 🔥 no values, not such a bad boy, no more lonely nights, no more lonely nights play out version...all rock. I have no idea why Paul has never played these live. They all deserve a place in his set list. Thanks again guys...and Ed, I am so glad you became a beatles fanatic due to this very film. I just wish wings over the world 1979 tv show or wings rock show 1980 movie was what grabbed you. J/k

I saw this in the theatre when it came out along with Rupert the Bear. I knew I would enjoy it because like Ken said, to have Paul and Ringo on the big screen it had to be great. I heard a funny comment from a moviegoer leaving the theatre who said he liked the cartoon better than the movie, meaning he didn't like the movie very much.

Subtly has a purple filter to reflect Prince, maybe? Enjoyed all the musical sequences especially the warehouse because of the rawness no nonsense playing with great musicians. Youmight notice during Yesterday @ the beginning he almost sings "Now I need a place to hideaway..... I worked @ The Bank of New York in NYC located within The CBS building & acquired an advance copy of the album & went to the priemier @ a cinema in Manhattan. The crowd was massive & when he arrived I & my wife were literally thrust & airborne. Beatlemania was alive & well to another level that night. These are my regards not regrets...!

With the populist politics today and that many people supporting Trump this could have never happened today. The people would have shouted „communists!“ all the time on social media and probably stormed the tv show. Sad times.

This was one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Shameless plug- I did a video review on my channel "Tony D's Music Channel". Another ironic thing from this documentary is that George Carlin appeared with John and Yoko and 20 years later he replaced Ringo Starr as the narrator of "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends". It was the first time I had seen John this happy in a documentary.

Full disclosure, I'm not and was never a fan of Yoko. That being said I do respect her right to represent her art and music anyway she chooses but I do think you did try to gloss and smooze history a little especially with the Memphis segment discussion. It was dripping with the molasses yall were pouring over it. Just my opinion, I could be wrong

The week was remarkable and way ahead of its time, yes like a modern Podcast ! Apparently Chuck Berry played Johnny Be Good in a different key to the band and surprised John into playing a solo, which he winged ! This whole period is astonishing and brave, but perhaps what is breathtaking is we are still battling these issues today! Sadly people dismiss Lennon 71-72 but i think he felt it was proof ending the Beatles was correct, he seems liberated And perhaps explains his utter despair after the rejection of STINYC and the one to one concert? The walk into the lost weekend is put into context? Lennon knew after this period he couldn’t be himself think openly because the media and establishment were too powerful! I enjoy his music after but there was some balls in 71-72 ? Great informed show Thank you

The Memphis segment was historic, and Yoko's hysterically funny when she makes that sound, but I remember Memphis being more melodic. I don't think Lennon sang the tune, it sounded more like he was talk-singing.

Great Review all. I agree the sound in the theater needed to be louder. Also the visual quality of “The Backyard” was much better than I have ever seen! I also agree with Kit, the editing between songs at times was amateurish.

I saw Billy Don’t Be a Hero in the end credits and thought I must be losing my mind - thanks for explaining! 👍 would have LOVED for that to be clear and not obscured by the voice over! My 10 year old self loved that radio hit in ‘74!

Thanks for a cool recap video. my local theater 2pm showing was 1/3 full. The Sound would have been way better back in 1974/70s theaters where they had concert style speaker stacks in back for the earthquake towering inferno jaws epics of the day. My local theater was "qiuetly loud"... not cranked up like i would have preferred... unless we are all losing our hearing, it seems all reviews have this complaint.
